Students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) complete college-level work measured against an international standard. The IB curriculum promotes critical thinking skills 45+

that are of particular importance to colleges and universities. Whether taken as an individual course or through the full diploma program it will continue to serve students well beyond their years of education.

Q. What sets the program apart?

As part of the Diploma Programme, students balance a full IB-level course load during 11th and 12th grades with other “Core” requirements that contribute to an unparalleled and well-rounded education. Students who earn their IB Diploma will:

• gain breadth and depth of knowledge in six subject areas

• develop international mindedness and compassion for opposing viewpoints

Q. What are the “Core” requirements?

• challenge the world around them in vital and constructive ways

• complete two years of a second language

CREATIVITY, ACTIVITY, SERVICE (CAS): CAS is accomplished through hours dedicated to extracurricular activities, some of which are offered as part of the New Hampton School experience.

EXTENDED ESSAY (EE): Fueled by an individual passion or interest, students conduct extensive research on one topic which culminates in a 4000-word essay that promotes organization and college readiness.

THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE (ToK): This required class encourages students to make connections between subjects and examine the process of acquiring knowledge, so they will be more dynamic thinkers and effective learners.
