Focus: How well does the MCFL offer at Rokeby support the school in delivering its core values and vision?

Underpinned by the school values, the MCFL curriculum aims to equip students with the linguistic tools and cultural capital that will empower them to thrive in a multicultural world.

At Rokeby School all our students study either French or Spanish to GCSE level. We believe that the ability to speak another language is a vital life skill. Research indicates that people who speak more than one language develop a better memory, talent for problem solving, ability to concentrate better and a tendency to be more creative than people who speak only one language Knowing at least a second language also reduces the chances of cognitive decline as you age

82% of our students are EAL students. Studying a language promotes confidence, encourages success and allows some to excel in ways that they can not in some other subjects. Our students also have the opportunity to complete a GCSE in community languages - Italian, Urdu, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Bengali and many more

Improved employability, better communication, understanding different cultures, respect and belonging are just a few on the reasons languages are so important at Rokeby School.
