The deadline for applications for our parent governor post has now passed. We have had two applications and it is time to open this to a vote.

Parent A:

I’m mother to three children and would love to become more involved with school life at Rokeby. I’m still pretty closely connected to my son's primary school. I look to support the best interests and safety perspectives as well as having the best outcome of wishes for students at all times ensuring that they feel welcome and valued during each day of education If I become successful as parent governor at Rokeby I would dedicate my time and knowledge I've learnt over a number of years to the education setting. I would acknowledge students choices whilst at Rokeby, overlooking daily life in the eyes of the students, adhering to their best interests, of whom seem very happy at this school.

Parent B:

This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and help shape the school's future through implementing processes and procedures to assist the students and teachers

Year 8 visit to the Financial Conduct Authority (Stratford)

On Tuesday, 4th February 2025, a group of Y8 students visited the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The workshop they attended was on careers and making the right choice for the future

“We had some really interesting talks about career goals and the skills needed to work in finance. It was cool to learn about the different jobs in the financial sector and it got a lot of us thinking about what we might want to do in the future. We also learned to spot the differences and similarities in various career paths which helped us see all the options we have. The group work and teamwork activities were fun and made us better at working together.”(Saihabur RAHMAN)

“The FCA trip was very good because we were learning about finance which was in their conference room We went there by train, which I really enjoyed We also met the staff at FCA, who were really nice. They helped us learn about money, jobs and how we should choose subjects for the jobs we might want to do. For me, I want to do engineering, so it helped me to find out what I need to do for that career” (Kenzie BOYD)

Diversity and Equality Month

As part of Diversity and Equality Month, Y10 and Y11 Sociology students took part in an enquiry delivered by Nadina and Vanessa from Rights and Equalities in Newham - REIN. It was a wonderful opportunity for GCSE Sociology students to gain a better understanding of the criminal justice system and the issue of serious youth violence.

Rokeby students were keen to share their views, whilst being open to new ideas and beliefs. Nadina and Vanessa commented on how well Rokeby students were able to articulate themselves and their enthusiasm for wanting Newham to be both a safe and fairer place to live.

On Friday 7th February 2025 we celebrated Number Day at school. Students took part in mathematical related activities in their subject areas.

The end ended with a students versus staff quiz, where staff were put through their maths paces in the assembly hall! It was a great event.

The Number Hunt involved students solving maths problems and then they had to look for the teachers who had the answers on their backs.

Students and staff made donations to Save the Children. We raised just under one hundred pounds so far.

Number Day Poetry from English

Here are some of the poems written by students in Y8 for Number Day. The task was "Write a four line poem, including at least three numbers".

Abdurrahman BENDJEDDOU (8R):

I went into my room and ate one packet of crisps, After that, it became two, Three minutes later, it turned to eleven, Now I'm writing this poem on the loo!

Imran AFHAM ISMAIL (8K):

In the park I found three slides, With children playing on them all together

Two swings swinging all around, It was one sunny day, with such beautiful weather! Param MEHMI (8R)

Twenty-four seven, I'm in heaven, Munching on two chickens, It's finger lickin!

Oluwatomiwa IDOWU (8R)

The world is like a daze spinning once every day

We hear its screams and its pain two times a day It's forest is like a maze through and through The sea levels rise just like a tide.

Madsir Hanif 8R

Three pencils, one ruler, and one pencil I got to school and forgot my pencil! I quickly ran into the school gate, Then made it back to school, thirty minutes late.
