Sheriffs’ Challenge

Rokeby School Awards

The Sheriffs’ Challenge is an opportunity for students across London to take part in an annual public speaking event. It was started by Liveryman Peter Estlin, to give students a chance to hone their public speaking skills by delivering a team-work presentation, competitively, on a topic relating to the City of London or the business/wider world. David Lock, former Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, supported our students to prepare for their presentation. David is also a former governor at Rokeby School.

“I want to tell you how proud I was of the Rokeby team that competed in the Sheriffs’ Challenge heat this evening. They did not win this year, but their performance was a real credit to the school. The official comment was that the standard this year was higher and it is worth remembering that Rokeby was up against three sixth form teams. I want to make special mention of Ms Cates. She was lovely to work with and facilitated the boys making all the key decisions. The boys were really engaged and asked really good questions when I met them. They seem to really enjoy the experience and the skills that they developed in preparing for it will hopefully help in in their studies and careers. Thank you for allowing a Rokeby team to enter.

NCL Joint Twilight We had our NCL joint twilight for marking and moderation on 24th January Wednesday. Y11 triple science students from Rokeby School took part in the twilight. Participating in twilight with teachers from across the trust was a thrilling experience that gave us students the chance to gain an insight into the various methods teachers from our trust use to teach their students. We shared our ideas on how to approach a question using the Assessment Objectives (AO) and the thought processes behind answering a question. We also discussed how to break down a question to make it easier to understand. Discussing the different ways questions are presented by the exam boards and how each differs in their marking points also helped in knowing how to answer a question utilising the correct scientific keywords. Overall, I think that both teachers and students were able to take away huge benefits from the session. Mohammed-Sharaf Hossain Triple Science Year 11

Number Day Rokeby School celebrated Number Day 2024 and all things mathematical and raised money for the NSPCC. The main focus of our day was the number day hunt. Students had to complete a maths quiz, then having determined the correct answers, they had to find and record the relevant staff members who were wearing the T-shirts emblazoned with the answers. Staff were not left out of the fun as they also had a similar Maths quiz to complete. The day finished with the annually contested quiz competition between our Y7 students and non maths teachers. The teachers were beaten by a one point margin - well done Rokeby students!

She told us about how we budget our money, how needs are more important than wants, the difference between high and low priority. We also learned about spendings, which is how we should spend our money while budgeting to achieve our goals, for example paying for a car or mortgage” Anas Khan & Samir Hossain 8B
