Welcome

Welcome back to school to all of our students. We hope that everyone had an enjoyable summer with family and friends.

We’re also delighted to welcome our new year 7 to the school and think that they have made an amazing start to their secondary school life.

We are sure that you will find Eastlea to be a welcoming and happy school. So that you have the opportunity to find out a bit more about your child’s start at Eastlea there will be a ‘Meet the Tutor’ event for year 7 parents on Wednesday, 11th September at 3.30-5.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

Here at Eastlea we use a system called Go4Schools which records attendance, academic progress and behaviour. We use this system to communicate reports, assessment grades and communicate if your child has a detention. It’s really important that parents sign up to this system. We shall be sending a letter next week with information for parents to sign up.

Celebrating Students’ Exam Success at Eastlea

Well done to all of our year 11 students who collected their exam results in August!

We know that they worked hard, attended revision sessions, additional classes and were a fantastic year group who deserve to succeed in whatever they choose to do next. Teachers and staff here at Eastlea will miss them all.

This year group rose above numerous challenges such as almost two years of lockdown at the beginning of their secondary schooling.

We wish them well in their future education and work.

"I

am very happy with my results. I worked hard and it paid off!"

Mental Health Support for Students at Eastlea

All of us can experience mental health issues in our lives. At Eastlea we work in partnership with two specialist providers to deliver mental health support to our students.

Place2Be, which is a national charity, provides our school counselling service. This is available in school Monday-Wednesday. Students can request a drop in session which is called Place2Talk. More information about Place2Talk can be found here. Should students need longer term therapeutic support they can also be referred to Place2Be regular counselling sessions. Please read the letter (available in a range of community languages) regarding the service here.

We also work with WINS (Wellbeing in Newham Schools) which is part of the NHS Newham Mental Health Support Team. Our experienced practitioner is Michelle Butcher. WINS can provide targeted support to young people who are experiencing low mood or anxiety. Michelle is in school every Monday and a letter explaining what WINS provides is here.

Should students be experiencing more acute mental health difficulties, we can also refer to NHS community mental health services. Please contact your child's Pastoral Manager in the first instance, or our Safeguarding Officer, Helena Loizou, if you have concerns.

Eastlea is a Phone Free Zone

From September 2024 Eastlea has become a phone free school. Students are not allowed mobile phones on site at all. If a student brings a phone to school they must hand it in to staff at the start of the day and collect it at the end of the day. If your child is found with a mobile phone it will be confiscated and will only be returned to a parent or carer when they come into school to collect it.

We know this will help our students:

● make the right choices

● stay kind and

● be ambitious

Here is the letter sent to parents/carers about this
