All students at Eastlea took part in the Eastlea Election on 2nd July 2024 where they voted for a political party. Here are some things our students said about election day.

"I enjoyed taking part in the Eastlea Election. It was interesting learning about the General Election and having the right to vote for a Political Party I resonated with. I now feel like I am ready to vote when I turn 18". (Year 10 student leader) "I felt proud to be on the other end - helping Mrs Bhanu and other student leaders count the votes and making sure that election day runs smoothly. This is definitely something I would like to do again as it taught me time management and leadership skills". (Year 9 student helper) "I loved voting in the election. Everything was set up so clearly and it was fun to participate in something to do with the wider community. I feel like I now understand more about politics and the news". (Year 7 student).

Year 11 Prom Last Friday, we had our prom, which was a memorable and enjoyable event. The evening was filled with music, dancing and celebration. Students arrived in their finest attire, creating a festive and elegant atmosphere. Both students and staff had a great time socialising and making lasting memories. The decorations, music and overall ambiance contributed to a successful and delightful prom evening.

Barclays Bank Aspire Programme Graduation

On Tuesday 25th June a group of Year 11 Students travelled to Barclays Bank for the graduation ceremony of the ASPIRE programme. They have learnt so many skills along the way to make them wider world and work ready and we are so proud of their achievements.

The students have networked with Amani Simpson on his aspiring journey from adversity to success, Chris Oliver from SAS: Who dares wins on executive protection, Sarah Langham who promotes a growth mindset, Sir Ashley Joseph and Leo Powell on how to be the best version of yourselves by making the right choices now. They have learnt about communication, stakeholder engagement, influence, authenticity in workplaces teamwork and tactical operations, personal branding, transferable skills, personal resilience, cybersecurity, influence, leadership and affecting positive change. Some of them have set themselves up with interviews to gain employment onto the Barclays apprenticeships and have continuously demonstrated our school values throughout all of the sessions. All our students left with professional headshots to take on the next stage of their educational journey.

London School Dance Youth Games Earlier on in the Year Eastlea Community School competed against schools across Newham to represent the Borough at the London Youth Games in Dance. As Eastlea Community School won, they went to the Copperbox Arena to compete at the KS4 London School Dance Youth Games. The students competed against all of the other Boroughs in London and came in an amazing fourth place! Both of these students, Poppy in year 9 and Madlen in year 10, represented both Newham and Eastlea Community School fantastically! Well done girls!

Year 7 Maths Trips to the Olympic Park On 25th June and 3rd July, Mr Boote and his colleagues in the maths department took the whole of the Year 7 cohort to the Olympic to practise the skills they have learned in maths this year and apply them to real-life situations. Unfortunately, the group who visited the park on the 3rd July were rained off however they were able to take shelter in the velodrome and continue with their maths.

Year 6 to year 7 Transition

On 4th July, we welcomed our new cohort of Year 7’s (24/25) into school for the day. It was a fantastic day, jam packed with fun activities such as PE, Science, Music, Art and Drama lessons and a great introduction to Eastlea Community School before they start in September.

Students and staff had such a fantastic time and were so enthusiastic all throughout the day.

We can’t wait for our new cohort of students to join Eastlea!

Training for parents and carers on County Lines, gang affiliation, grooming and exploitation This is a reminder about the Parent/Carer Engagement Session webinar for parents/ carers/ professionals which will be held on 11th July 2024. The sessions will give advice on how to spot signs of County Lines, gang affiliation, grooming and exploitation. The input will also include a lived experience speaker who will explain how they themselves or their children, became involved with gangs and/or exploitation. The charity will also offer free long term support, to anyone who needs it or believes their young people have been or are being exploited.
