Newham Dance Competition

FivestudentsfromKS3wenttoNewVicCollegetocompeteattheir first Newham Dance Competition. All the students thoroughly enjoyedthemselves, andbehavedimpeccably.

Three students in Year 7 started Dance with Ms Burt in September. They were the only school in KS3 who competed with less than five Dancers, and were the youngest competitors. Holly Waite, Khelsea Welio and Kelilah Balogun peformed a piece inspired by International Women's Day and the film Barbie. These three students performed amazingly well. They achieved their goal of gaining experience on a large stage; performing in front of others andhavingfun.Theyachieved4thPlace!

Two students in Year 9 were entered into a higher age level and competed in the KS4 category. Poppy Caton and Andreea-Rebeca Vilcu performed a duet they had been working on in Ms Burt's P.E lessons. The concept was 'an unseen force wiping out the nation.' These two students were phenomenal on stage and came away with 1st place, qualifying for the London Youth Games Final at the CopperBoxArenainJuly.

Online Safety

We know it is hard for parents to keep children safe online. At school we have filtering and monitoring systems which ensure that students are protected when online in school but it is important that parents also feel confident that their children are safe when on their phones and other devices outside of school. Chat sites like Discord, Strangermeetup and Omegle are often not safe places for young people online. Children can chat to total strangers on these sites, without parents or carers being aware, andwithoutanyrealmonitoring. TFL Consultation Outcome

TFL has published its report following the consultation on our proposals to improve safety on the Lower Lea Crossing. Between 6 December 2023 and 12 February 2024, they held a public consultation on proposals to make safety improvements to the Lower Lea Crossing. TFL received 194 responses to the consultation . A range of views were expressed during the consultation, with comments, concerns and suggestions raised. Its responses to the issues raisedduringtheconsultationareincludedinAppendixAofthereport.

After fully considering the consultation responses, TFL has decided to proceed with the scheme with a small change following feedback received during the consultation. TFL is proposingtobuildtheplannednewzebracrossingattheexitpointontheLowerLeaCrossing on a raised table to improve conditions for cyclists and pedestrians. This will be subject to final design approvals. Subject to funding being available we hope to start work on site during Spring2024.Wewillkeeplocalpeopleupdatedwithourplans.
