Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge

On Thursday, 29th February, Eastlea Community School once more participated in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge. Two trainers from the Speaker's Trust helped facilitate the public speaking workshop, which was to promote youth engagement and public speaking. Eastlea's Year 10 students distinguished themselves and showed great enthusiasm throughout the event. At the end of the workshop, six candidates were selected to move onto the next phase of the Speak OutChallenge, selectingafinalisttorepresentEastleaCommunitySchoolattheNewhamRegional finalsheldon24thAprilatStAngela'sUrsulineSchool.

Girls of The World

Eastlea Community School buzzed with excitement on Tuesday as we hosted the "Girls of the World" event, celebrating International Women's Day. The event aimed to inspire and empower young women from Year 5, providing them with positive role models, building confidence, andfosteringconnectionsastheyprepareforthetransitiontosecondaryschool.

Girls from Star, Curwen, Stratford Manor, St Lukes, and Selwyn primary schools joined their peers at Eastlea for the day. They learned valuable tools for self-expression in "How to be Assertive and Get Your Voice Heard", unleashed their creativity in the badge-making workshop, and even discovered the power of movement through a fun and energetic capoeirasessionwithMsAnderson.

The day delved into inspiring stories of female achievements with workshops like "Green WomenAroundtheWorld,"highlightingenvironmentalchampions, and"Herstory:Amazing Women in History," showcasing the diverse contributions of women throughout history. To top it all off, the girls belted out Katy Perry's empowering anthem "Roar" in a special singing lesson, leavingthemfeelingreadytotakeontheworld.

This collaborative event proved to be a resounding success. The girls not only gained valuable skills and knowledge but also forged new friendships and built a sense of community. The smiles on their faces as they left Eastlea were a testament to the positive impact of the "Girls of the World" initiative, leaving a lasting impression as they embark on their next chapter in secondary school.

World Book Day

How to Spend Your Voucher

On 7th March staff celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as book characters. The English department dressed as Dickens characters and Keystage 3 students had a Dickens related lesson. The admin staff dressed a characters from J M Barrie’s Peter Pan. Students had an exciting day full of various activities in the library with many taking part in the Charles Dickens scavenger hunt, looking for clues around the school, as well as making their own reading badges, decorating bookmarks, doing book quizzes and entering the favourite character competitions. Well done to everyonewhotookpartandthewinnersofalltheprizeswillbeannouncedsoon!

In her presentation, she spoke about the fascinating experiences of being an author, outlining the random places she gets her inspiration from, and all the struggles she came across before picking up a book and reading. She's the writer of many wonderful books, including 'How to be a Human', 'The Mystery of Me' and Fagin's Girl, a Victorian tale with a nod to Oliver Twist. Students have mentioned that they felt inspired by Karenandagroupof30year7studentsdidaworkshopwheretheyhadachancetomakeup theirownsuspensestories.
