Extra curricular activities at Eastlea

On Wednesday we rounded off the Autumn term with the Winter Music Concert. This year our Winter Concert focused on showcasing our orchestras and bands. We heard renditions of classic Christmas songs like ‘Silent Night’ played by an individual Violinist to Jazz renditions by individual Trumpet players and Pianist as well as the eight piece strong Jazz band. Many of the bands included solo and duet singers whose voices filled the theatre and had the audience cheering loudly.

Pinsent Mason Debate Competition

Seven students from year 10 on the 19th of November went to Pinsent Masons office in central London to compete in a debate competition. We were up first arguing against the topic 'The Government should increase off-shore drilling to help ease the cost of living crisis.' Students performed well in front of large audience including lawyers and judges however we did not get the win. We were commended for our teamwork on particularly challenging topic. Well done to the students who attended!

Write for Rights

On Monday 16th December we hosted 140 year 5 students from our local primary schools for the 4th year running to our amazing Write for Rights event. Write for rights is a really important annual event run by Amnesty International. Every year Eastlea Community School’s Citizenship GCSE group holds an event where hundreds of cards are made for people all around the world who are suffering because of unfair decisions. Some are in prison because they think differently to the government of their countries, some have been tortured because they are suspected of a crime and some are under constant threat of losing their homes. Sending these people cards reminds them that the world is on their side, that people are supporting them and that they should not give up hope. This was a really lovely event, with lots of craft materials and festive music. A huge well done to our year 11 students who did such a fantastic job working with the year 5s.

Inclusion Department Reward Trip to the Cinema

The Inclusion department was delighted to take our Sensory and Nurture class groupings on an enrichment trip to celebrate their achievements this term and watch a screening of the ‘Paddington in Peru’ movie at Stratford. We were very fortunate that this trip was funded by a kind donation of £500 from The Essex Freemasons.
