Dyslexia Corner

Reading can be particularly challenging for individuals with dyslexia for several reasons. One primary issue is that pages often appearoverloadedwithtext, makingit difficult to process the information effectively. Additionally, books with white backgrounds can cause visual stress, prompting some publishers to print text on darker-coloured backgroundstoalleviatethisissue.

Several companies cater to the learning needs of dyslexic readers. Notably, Barrington Stoke specialises in producing books designed to be more accessible and reader-friendly. Theyalsooffertitlesthatarepartofthe English curriculum, ensuring that students with dyslexia can engage withessentialtexts.

Graphic novels and comic strip adaptations, such as Macbeth (as shown below), are another popular option among dyslexic readers. These formats combine visual storytelling with concise text, making literature moreengagingandaccessible.

In our library at Eastlea we stock an excellent range of these age appropriate reading books. Take time to check them out or ask our librarian Mrs Khanom.
