ThiswasaspecialserviceofRemembranceattheCenotaphin CentralParkwhichwasaimedatyoungpeople,withchildren fromseveralNewhamschoolstakingpart.Attheendofthe service,localhistorianLeeJSkeggsgaveatalktoschoolchildren andyoungpeopleaboutmembersofhisownfamilywhodiedin bothconflictsandaboutsomenotableNewhamvictimsofboth WorldWars.

UniversityCollegeLondon(UCL)haslaunchedastudytoexplorethelinkbetweendyslexia and sleep issues, following research showing that 66% of children with dyslexia have clinical sleep problems. Given sleep’s critical role in brain development, cognitive function, andoverallwell-being,UCLaimstoexaminehowdyslexiamayimpactsleepacrossallages. This research is essential, as sleep issues may add to the cognitive and learning challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia, potentially affecting mental health, daily life, and academic growth. Understanding and addressing these sleep disruptions could benefit individualswithdyslexiathroughouttheirlives.
HowCanYouHelp?UCLisnowseekingparticipantsbothwithandwithoutdyslexiatotake part in a short online questionnaire about their sleep behaviours. The input from a wide range of participants will help researchers pinpoint patterns, enabling them to take a closer look at how dyslexia and sleep intersect. By participating, you’ll be contributing to a vitalresearchprojectthatcouldleadtobettersupport,improvedsleepinterventions,anda deeper understanding of dyslexia’s impact on mental and physical health.
