Boarding (7-19) & Day (1-19) 1,400 students, including 480 boarders

At New Hall, we are immensely proud of our students and all that they achieve. Their commitment, resilience and love of learning have shone through in this year’s exceptional examination results. These successes are a true reflection of their hard work, supported every step of the way by our dedicated and inspirational teachers.
Excellence at New Hall is about so much more than academics. Alongside their impressive results, our students have embraced the full breadth of opportunities available to them, excelling in sport, the performing arts, leadership roles and service to the community. The joy of celebrating these achievements with our students and their families is one of the highlights of the school year.
As a Catholic school, welcoming all who support our ethos, we prepare our students to flourish at leading universities and beyond, in a community based on the values of care, trust and respect.

Mrs Katherine Jeffrey Principal

• Two thirds at the greater depth standard in Reading
• Half at the greater depth standard in Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
• A third at the greater depth standard in Mathematics

The summer saw another set of superb outcomes in the KS2 SATs, with New Hall’s Year 6 pupils achieving results among the very best in the country. In Reading, 97% met the expected standard (75% nationally), with a remarkable two thirds of the cohort reaching the greater depth standard. In Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, 98% met the expected standard (73% nationally) and half of the pupils reached the greater depth standard. For Mathematics, 92% reached the expected standard (74% nationally), with a third of pupils reaching greater depth.
“I am so proud of the achievements of our pupils. For two thirds of the pupils to reach greater depth in Reading and to attain average scores of 111 in both areas of the English assessments is extremely pleasing. This is testament to the hard work of the pupils and the dedication and skill of our teachers.” (Mrs Twomey, Head of Preparatory Division)

Amongst the many pupils celebrating their success were a number from our vibrant boarding community. The boarding programme at New Hall begins from Year 3 and includes full and flexible boarding options from 1 to 7 nights.

• Record 65% of grades 7+ (A*/A)
• Record 45% of grades 8+ (A*)
• Quarter of all grades at the top grade 9
• 82% of grades at 8+ (A*) in Further Mathematics
• Record results in STEM subjects

New Hall celebrated record-breaking achievements in 2025, making us the top performing independent school in the area:

Record results were seen across all of our STEM subjects, with 60% of grades in Biology at 8+ (A*), 56% at 8+ (A*) in Chemistry and 51% at 8+ (A*) in Physics. We also saw our first ever cohort of students take the Further Mathematics GCSE achieving a superb 82% of grades at 8+ (A*)
The results from New Hall’s boarding students continue to be outstanding, with almost a third at the highest grade 9, half of their grades at 8+ (A*) and three-quarters of grades at 7+ (A*/A).
Performing Arts subjects also celebrated outstanding results, with Drama achieving 63% at grade 7+ (A*/A) and Music achieving 75% at grade 7+ (A*/A). This year, the Classics Department had one of the largest cohorts in the UK studying Classical Greek with students achieving an outstanding 100% at grade 7+ (A*/A) and 86% at grade 8+ (A*)

New Hall’s top achiever, Harry W, alumnus of New Hall Preparatory Divisions, achieved a clean sweep of 12 grade 9s. Harry W said: “I am really happy with my results. If I had to sum up my time at New Hall, I would say it has been incredible!”
Grace W, alumna of The Tyrrells Primary School, achieved seven 9s, two 8s and two 7s and is studying Spanish, Business and Geography at A Level. She added: “The support from the staff has been incredible.”

• Record 96% of New Hall students secure their university of choice
• 85% at Russell Group/Top 20 universities
• Three quarters of all A Level grades at A*-B, and 42% at A*/A
• 24 students celebrate up to 5 straight A*/A grades

Over the last three years, New Hall’s A Level results have consistently outperformed local independent and grammar schools:
A Level A*/A% 2023-2025

New Hall students have secured places at some of the world’s leading universities, with 96% securing their first choice, including Filip A, an HMC Scholar and boarder, who is heading to Sciences Po, Dijon, to read Politics & Government. Students also secured places at Oxford, Cambridge, University of North Carolina, Durham, Exeter, University College London, Warwick and King’s College London.
Founded in 1642, and as the UK’s second oldest Catholic school, it is also fitting that History remains one of the strongest Departments at New Hall, with 54% of grades at A*/A and 96% at A*-B. Other notable successes include Performing & Creative Arts, with 100% at A*-B grades and around half of grades at A*/A. Modern Languages bucked the national trend in these subjects, with 57% of grades at A*/A.
“I am delighted to see New Hall Languages flourishing, against the national trend in these subjects. 43% of New Hall Modern Languages results are at A*, demonstrating the strength of our awardwinning Modern Languages Programme, which integrates the teaching of French and Spanish with practical applications, such as cookery.” (Dr Tiffen, Vice Principal)

The results from our boarding students were particularly impressive, with a superb 59% of their grades at A*/A and 81% of grades at A*-B.
Romilly I, Head Girl, a boarder and alumna of St Cedd’s School, Chelmsford, gained three A* grades and is excited to continue the tradition of New Hall History graduates at Oxbridge by securing her place to read History (Ancient and Modern) at Balliol College, Oxford.

New Hall School has high academic standards, regularly outperforming local grammar and independent schools in public examinations.
Our thriving programme of activities stretches and challenges our most academically able. We believe that the learning habits required to achieve academic success can be nurtured in all our students, and that even the most able can develop to even higher levels when set intellectual challenges and opportunities to think creatively.
This programme is delivered alongside our excellent system of pastoral care to ensure that, as well as being academically stretched, students are supported and develop the skills to balance their studies alongside their equally important co-curricular contributions.
The success of this programme can be illustrated by the performance of our most academically able students (MAT). These students represent a third of each year group, all of whom are at or above the entry standards for grammar schools at point of entry.

Leaders and governors ensure that the school’s Catholic ethos is reflected in its policies and practice. Through these, the ethos is thoroughly embedded in the life of the school.
The school is an inclusive and purposeful community. Leaders and staff strive to model the school’s ‘gospel values’ and reflect the school’s priorities of community and staying true to the founders’ aims of ‘care, trust and respect’.
