Diocesan Citizenship Awards Last Friday, Bishop Thomas presented two of our pupils, Sophie Carter (5T) and Holly Layzell (4D), with the Diocesan Citizenship Award. Both girls have sisters with severe learning difficulties which means that Sophie and Holly have to be selfless in the love, care, patience, kindness and compassion they show to their sisters. We are extremely proud of them for living out the Gospel values of our Mission Statement and showing to the world what it means to be a true friend of Jesus. YEAR 2 TRIP TO MERSEA ISLAND On Thursday 9 May, Year 2 visited Mersea Island as part of their Geography study about islands. The children visited the old church of St Peter and St Paul where they took part in a treasure hunt, finding artefacts such as gargoyles and stained glass windows and looking carefully at the maritime-inspired kneeler designs. Year 2 also visited the Mersea Museum where they learned about island life both now and in the past. There was also time to explore the beach where the children used natural materials to create sculptures. A fun time was had by all! Thank you to all those parents who helped on the day and well done to all the pupils for their impeccable behaviour which was commented upon by several members of the public.

GREEK DAY On Tuesday 30 April, Year 3 dressed up as Ancient Greeks and visited a market place where they worked as slaves making remedies for ailments, painting frescoes and making lucky charms and amphora from clay. They were very successful at grinding olives to produce oil to burn in their lamps. Some beautiful mosaics and paintings were produced along with wax tablets with Greek writing. During the afternoon they were treated to a banquet with a variety of entertainment. Plays and dancing were followed by a display by the Hoplites. It was very pleasing to hear Master Thaddius say that the children had not been good, or even very good but instead he described them as superb! They were a credit to the school. Many thanks go to the parents who kindly gave up their day to help with this exciting day.
