YARMOSKY PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY Yarmosky Pediatric Dentistry, The Berkshire Center for Pediatric Dental Wellness and Airway Orthodontics, is pleased to announce the opening of their Myobrace Activities Center. Not only are they Myobrace Certified Providers, their Myobrace Activities Center is one of three centers in the US that will now be used as a professional Myobrace Training and Learning Center for other providers around the US and Canada. YPD’s myofunctional therapeutic approach to orthodontic treatment allows them to identify and treat the reasons why poor tooth alignment and poor craniofacial development occur, not just “fix the teeth” that often are only one symptom of your child’s overall health picture. Common issues like mouth breathing and poor tongue rest posture not only cause tooth malocclusion and 2

poor jaw and facial development, but also affect your child’s airway growth, function and health. These issues are directly related to poor sleep quality and ADHD-like symptoms as well as frequent upper respiratory infections, bed wetting, morning headaches and TMJ pain, and if not addressed, can hold your child back from living their best life. Yarmosky Pediatric Dentistry is proud to be a leader in this growing field of dentistry and excited to offer this important approach to your child’s care right here in Berkshire Country. The earlier these issues are identified, the easier they are corrected. Take advantage of a free myofunctional and orthodontic consultation to discover how Yarmosky Pediatric Dentistry may be able to help your child be healthier, sleep better, improve school and sports performance and have a beautiful smile.

776 North Street, PittsďŹ eld, Mass. 413-442-5094 dwyerfuneral.com

For 114 years, the Dwyer Funeral Home has provided the people of Berkshire County with caring, personal and professional service. Founder Simon P. Dwyer first opened his doors in 1904, and the business has remained in the family for four generations, passing down first to F. Emmett Dwyer and then on to current owners Robert E. Dwyer, Sr. and his son, Rob Dwyer. The Dwyer Funeral Home family understands how difficult making funeral arrangements can be during such a sensitive and emotional time, and works hard to ensure every service is carefully designed to meet the family’s unique needs. Rather than a one-size-fits-all, standard service, Dwyer Funeral Home offers a wide range of options to create a truly personalized ceremony, including tribute videos, customized caskets and a beautifully restored 1946 Packard Limousine for the funeral procession. Greyce, a therapy dog, is available on request to sit with families and pro-

11

vide comfort through the service. Most importantly, the Dwyer Funeral Home is fully staffed with a large team of caring individuals, including Funeral Director David L. Yon. The Dwyer Funeral Home staff serves every client with personal care and exceptional attention to detail. Thanks to this high standard of service, the Dwyer Funeral Home was once again chosen as Best Funeral Home in the 2018 Best of the Berkshires Readers Choice Awards. Staff members are available seven days a week to answer questions over the phone, or families can arrange a private meeting to discuss how Dwyer can help design a personal and unique funeral experience. Online arrangements are also available. The Dwyer Funeral Home is grateful for the opportunity to serve the community, for the last 114 years and for the years to come.

The Pittsfield Cooperative Bank opened in 1889 intent on empowering their neighbors to build a better community. Savings and investment products were designed to benefit the customer’s long-term and lending decisions were made with great thought by honest, local bankers. 129 years later, they still are. With assets over $300 million, the bank is staffed by 49 talented people who not only live and work in the area – they’ve devoted most of their lives to the region. A long history of responsible banking has allowed the Co-op to become one of the best capitalized in the entire Commonwealth. Your deposits are fully protected at the Pittsfield Cooperative Bank. The unique combined insurance coverage afforded by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Share Insurance Fund (SIF) provide the best deposit insurance available. Up to $250,000 insured by the FDIC and balances over $250,000 by the SIF. Since its inception, the Share Insurance Fund has preserved the enviable claim that “no depositor has ever lost

a dollar in any Massachusetts cooperative bank.” Most important to the Co-op’s success, however; is its unwavering commitment to the community represented beyond its savings and loan products. An employee from the Co-op can be found contributing to many local organizations and groups ranging from The Berkshire Humane Society and the Pittsfield Parade Committee to Fairview Hospital and the Dalton CRA. EAST COAST REFINISHING

In 1999, Peter and Claudia Melle, along with a partner, purchased the old Lipton Steel building with the vision of starting a large scale fleet refinishing shop. Prior to purchasing the building, Peter had established a personal and business relationship with Doug Mason, the former owner of Surface Stripping Tech, a sandblasting company. With a little persuasion, Doug agreed to rent out 7000 sq. ft. of the building. Pairing a sandblasting company with a coatings company was a logical decision, with each company benefiting from the other’s expertise. After a few years, Doug decided to pursue other opportunities. Peter and Claudia, now sole owners of East Coast Refinishing, decided to purchase Surface Stripping Tech from Doug. With two operations under their management, Peter and Claudia needed another helping hand. They recruited their son, Ben Melle, to help run the businesses now known as East Coast Refinishing & Surface Stripping Inc. As years went on, thanks to a little bit of marketing and sales work, a reputation for excellent quality and word of mouth, the business found more and more clients were visiting the company.

Berkshire County INTROS | Sunday, September 30

In 2010, Peter passed away and left the business in good hands with Claudia, Ben and a great crew. Since then, ECRSS has expanded its business offerings to include welding/fabrication, spray in bedliners and a spray foam insulating business under the name DBA East Coast Insulators. East Coast Refinishing & Surface Stripping Inc. is heavily invested in local youth, especially through youth athletics in Berkshire County. ECRSS is also very involved in the Berkshire arts scene and has housed and supported some very talented local artist. Their investment in the community was formally recognized by the Williamstown

Community Chest. The company strives to provide a self and respectful environment for its employees, and consequently is able to retain workers with strong connections to the community, providing an extra level of neighborly attention to their stellar customer service. ECRSS hopes to build sales and expand its workforce through increased marketing efforts in the Berkshires and beyond, bringing one-stop convenience and expertise to new customers across the region. ELDER SERVICES OF BERKSHIRE COUNTY, INC. Elder Services of Berkshire County was founded nearly 45 years ago to provide in-home support to elders as they age with dignity and independence. The Agency has grown from just three employees to over 100 supported by nearly 150 volunteers, yet that early goal is still their guiding principle. Everyone has the right to self-determination and the highest possible quality of life as they age. The Agency’s services have expanded since those early days of a single desk in a Wendell Avenue home. From their primary office at 877 South Street in Pittsfield, they now offer caregiver support, Meals on Wheels and meals at local gathering sites, nutrition counseling, in-home services such as personal care, meal preparation, grocery shopping, medication management, etc., money management, adult family care, healthy aging programs, clinical assessments, Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone (SHINE) counseling, Senior Training and Employment, Berkshire Senior newspaper, supportive housing, volunteer transportation, and adult day health programs. These programs are

14

available to those over 60 years of age and those with disabilities. The Agency served over 10,000 Berkshire County residents last year representing all 32 cities and towns. Chances are you, or someone you love, has a story about how the Agency helped an elder age at home. The Agency’s commitment to excellence is reflected by their near perfect scores for recent federal and state oversight reviews and Platinum Certification by Guidestar, ranking them in the top 3% of non-profits for transparency and stewardship. Yet the greatest accolade, according to the staff and volunteers, is being voted Best of the Berkshires for the last three years in a row. Many on the Agency’s team have been working with them for many years. To them, supporting our community is a privilege, not just a career. And the recognition from those they have served, their neighbors, family, and friends is the greatest award they can receive. Elder Services of Berkshire County operates under the philosophy of Your Home, Your Care, Your Neighbors. How can they help you?

looking to shed some of their most stubborn body fat no longer have to choose between invasive procedures or out-of-town facilities. Healthy Image in Williamstown brings the latest in fat-reduction technology to the Berkshires with the county’s first and only Coolsculpting location. Coolsculpting is an FDA-approved, non-invasive alternative to liposuction that helps eliminate stubborn pockets of fat with minimal discomfort and recovery time. sults can be further refined through repeat visits. Healthy Image opened its doors in May of 2017. Owners Laura Martelle and Terry Baumann, and their Coolsculpting University-trained team, are focused on keeping clients confident and comfortable during the procedure and in their daily lives. Hillcrest Dental Care, Inc. (Hillcrest), with locations in Pittsfield and North Adams, Mass., is a full-service dental practice serving children and adults in the Berkshires and surrounding areas. Their mission is to provide the best quality services in a caring environment, with a highly trained, knowledgeable staff. In addition to providing compassionate, quality dental treatment at their two locations, Hillcrest is invested in identifying ways to expand services to un-served and under-served members of our community. This fall, they are proud to be launching a Portable Unit that will enable their team to provide state-of-the-art care wherever there is an expressed need. The Portable Unit is fully transportable via van, and can be set up inside community buildings as a temporary, private office for the day. The equipment includes a comfortable, adjustable patient chair, side delivery system, x-ray, stools, lighting, privacy screening, and communications technologies. Hillcrest’s licensed dental professionals will provide preventative dental services and restora-

tive care for patients on this unit. It will be overseen by Hillcrest’s Clinical Director and staffed by dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants who have been specially trained in the use of portable equipment. These experienced dental professionals currently work at Hillcrest’s clinics and will rotate in providing services for the Portable Unit. The staff working with the Portable Unit will connect to Hillcrest’s clinical sites through wireless communications, allowing them to access records and other necessary information. Hygienists that are staffing the Portable Unit will be able to consult with Hillcrest’s dentists at any time. The first round of community members to receive care from the Portable Unit will be children in the Berkshires who are currently not receiving dental care or are severely underserved with care. The Portable Unit will be an ongoing service offered in the community. To learn more, call 413-445-6680 or visit www.hillcrestdentalcare.org. Photo: Casey Albert
