A lot of artists talk about chasing their dreams, but for Christian recording artist Mark Schultz, it’s never been about the chase. Instead, it’s about following God’s call. Incidentally, this has led to what looks like any artist’s dream: two million records sold to date, ten No. 1 singles, a Dove Award as well as multiple nominations.

“Whatever season I’m in, that’s the call I’m following,” says Schultz. Since his last album release in 2012 things slowed down on the music and touring side of things, but not on the family side. Schultz and his wife now have three kids, ages six, four and two. And while he is still following the call of fatherhood, God’s call has also led Schultz back to music with a new energy, new perspective and a new album aptly titled Follow.

This live album is a mix of new songs and fan-favorites—worship anthems “God of Glory” and “I Am” both appear on the album. Recording the album live was appropriate for this musician who thrives in that environment. “Most people thrive in the studio,” says Schultz, “but for me, I love the live shows so much…I just love the energy of people.” It was this energy that convinced Schultz to choose “Follow” as the first single. The powerful title track parallels how Schultz navigates his life, not by his own will, but God’s. Originally inspired by a story Schultz heard about a girl with a rough upbringing and no father-figure, Schultz discovered “Follow” was farther reaching than he knew: “As I lived with the song, I thought, ‘This isn’t just for her; this is for me. What do I follow?’”

This album is not just a collection of songs. It is a collection of declarations, prayers and of anthems that help us all hold the truth of the gospel over our lives. Recorded by Aaron and a group of his friends in Northern Ireland, this album is unrestricted. Music is always a journey and this album is definitely an adventure into the moment.

The album’s title track was the UK no.1 Christian single. “Jericho” is a song written in a night when the prayers of 3 friends broke through. Upon finding out Aaron’s eldest daughter Lily (who has Cystic Fibrosis) had to go into hospital for 2 weeks, Aaron, Jamie, and Ryan did what they know best: they worshipped. Through all the questions, hurt, and fear, a worship anthem sprung up.

The chorus of “Beauty For Ashes” was written in Cambodia when Aaron was leading worship for 20 rescued girls. Aaron began to sing over those precious lives, the lives that had seen years of torturous abuse at the hands of evil men. This song is a journey from being a slave in a child brothel to living in freedom and having a life filled with joy, hope, and an expectation for the future. Songs such as “Story,” “To The World,” and “I Will Follow,” as well as the rest of the album, have such powerful messages that challenge us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Within the heart of each song, a sonic color is created; saturating justice and mission throughout the record.

With their latest release East to West, Endless Highway sets out to prove that God’s love and grace are all-encompassing, spanning time and countless generations.
