Over 50s soup and damper day Hunter Valley Over 50s Singles Social Club will hold its annual Soup and Damper Day on 1 May at the Polish Hall, Grant Street, Maitland. Soups are made by members, and the meal will also include damper, dessert and nibbles. Cost is $10 members, $15 non-members. Tickets at the door or by phoning 4951 4407.

Anxiety Support Group The next meeting of the Jesmond (Newcastle) Anxiety Disorder Support group will be held at 10am on Wednesday 4 May at the Jesmond Neighbourhood Centre (44 Mordue Parade). The Support Group is open to people with anxiety disorders and their friends and family. The group is for over 18s and is not suitable for people with schizophrenia or PTSD. Sandgate Cemetery Tour The Newcastle Family History society will celebrate Heritage Month with a walking tour in the oldest section of Sandgate Cemetery on Sunday 1 May from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Departing from the reception desk at half-hour intervals, guides will lead inspection of graves of several former distinguished Newcastle residents. A cuppa for a cause Shamrock Quilters are hosting a Biggest Morning Tea to raise Funds for the Cancer Council on Saturday 30 April, 10am, at Shamrock Multi Purpose Centre, Galway Bay Drive, Ashtonfield. Admission is by donation, and there will be items for sale and a raffle.

Lake Mac goes to the movies Lake Macquarie Council will host a series of documentary screenings at Event Cinemas Glendale throughout May to raise awareness of a range of issues impacting on our society and the environment. Running each Thursday in May, the first screening, on Thursday 5 May from 6pm, will be Shalini Kantayya’s documentary, Chasing The Sun, that looks at solutions that can address the current climate crisis and income inequality. The film will be introduced by environmental philosopher and Honorary Professional Fellow at the University of Sydney, Dr Glenn Albrecht. All screenings are free but RSVPs are essential.
