WESTLAW UK STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE Hello everyone! Newcastle University My name is Sarah Lowe and I am the Westlaw Student Representative for the academic year 2017-18.
Westlaw is an easy to use legal database which can be used to access case law, legislation, legal journals and books, EU legal materials, current awareness issues and international materials. Westlaw is very useful, and knowing how to use it effectively makes research easier- especially for essays and seminars! As your Westlaw Student Representative, I am here to help you with any Westlaw related issues. I will provide group training sessions every week in the Eldon Cluster or the Discussion Room in the Law Library – check your emails for dates, times and location! The training will give you insight on how to get the best out of Westlaw, as well as sessions tailored to issues you may be coming across during your studies, ranging from writing your first academic essay to sharpening your commercial awareness for vacation scheme applications. You will also have the option to complete the Westlaw Basic and Advanced Level certifications- a great addition to a legal CV! The sessions will be very informal and casual, and I welcome any suggestions for specific issues you’d like to address! I am always contactable through email – S.L.Lowe@newcastle.ac.uk if you would like to ask a quick question or arrange a one on one session. Please also join the Facebook group ‘Legal Research at Newcastle University’ for regular updates. I look forward to meeting you all at the drop-in sessions! Sarah
