About Us • We reach 50,000 disadvantaged children, young people and families per year in the region.

• We provide a range of sporting, health, education and inclusion programmes which are delivered in primary and secondary schools and the community, using the Newcastle United brand.

Become an Employability Partner We are looking for businesses to support our employability projects as follows: • Provision of work experience placements (1-2 week duration, hours flexible depending on business need).

• Our employability programmes aim to engage and motivate young people to learn and reach their potential, ultimately gaining employment.

• Offer real life ‘interview’ experience for participants.

• We are based at St James’ Park with full support from Newcastle United Football Club.

• Delivery of seminars to course groups on specific industry sectors.

• We rely on in-kind support, sponsorship and donations to enhance our work and reach into the local community.

• We believe we can achieve more by working in partnership than by working alone.

• Site visits to give participants an understanding of a live working environment.

* All our participants will be DBS checked when they attend their work experience with your business.

Importantly, we only send participants on work placements when we can see they are ready.

How We Engage with Young People

• In the UK, the unemployment rate for people aged 16 and over is 5.5%.

We engage young people using the brand of Newcastle United to inspire learning whilst raising self-esteem, aspirations and motivations to achieve. We accomplish this by:

• The North East region has the highest rate of unemployment in the UK at 8.5%.

• Young people are among the most disadvantaged as they often lack both experience of the workplace and the job-specific skills that employers ask for.

Our employability programmes aim to inspire young people who are a distance from the job market to gain skills and reach their potential.

• Good quality and motivated staff experienced in delivering a variety of sessions.

• Innovative course content to suit various learning styles and abilities.

• Our exciting and inspiring venue as courses are based at St James’ Park.

Between 2013 and 2014, we had 129 young adults sign up for our employability courses, with 40% progressing into training, education or employment.

• NUFC incentives - all participants will have the opportunity to take part in a stadium tour and will receive match tickets.

Establishing links with businesses who are willing and able to provide work placements for participants is paramount to the overall success of our employability programmes.

By completing an employability programme, participants are enabled to: • Develop a range of transferable skills, personal qualities and competencies which will contribute toward employability.

• Work as part of a team.

• Become confident in their abilities.

• Relate their experience and skills to the workplace.

• Increase awareness of health and wellbeing.

• Gain accredited qualifications such as emergency first aid, food hygiene and workplace health and safety.

• Attend work placement opportunities.

Michael Sanderson

Sam Trotter

Michael Sanderson, aged 19, was referred to the Barclay’s Premier League Works programme from Percy Hedley Foundation School back in December 2014. Michael has in the past had significant difficulties in understanding spoken and written language.

Sam Trotter, aged 20, had been out of work for over two years when she signed up to the Barclays Premier League Works programme.

Michael lacked confidence when he first began the course, but throughout the 15 week programme his confidence grew and he established himself firmly within the group and made new friends. Michael also gained two qualifications in Sports Leaders and Emergency First Aid and completed two work placements, one with Newburn Leisure Centre and another with St James’ Park Hospitality team, Sodexo.

After completing the course, Michael applied for a part time job with Newburn Leisure Centre. He shone in his interview and came out with not only a part time job but a full time job.

Michael has now sustained employment for 8 weeks with positive feedback from his employers.

Brian Fletcher, Administration Officer at Newburn Leisure Centre said, “He has become a great part of the team and really settled in well. Michael now uses his own initiative to get jobs done and is never one to just sit back and wait to be told what to do. Michael now works full time for Newburn and plays a big role in the team. We hope to continue working with Michael to improve his skills and keep him progressing throughout the organisation.”

Sam had previously been on other Foundation courses during this time including Get into Hospitality, Get Started in Football and the Fairbridge programme. When Sam first joined the Barclay’s course she was looking to make a positive change to her life and get back on track and into employment.

Regular participation in workshops helped Sam enhance her CV, learn how to budget money, gain work experience and build her confidence and self-esteem. She has now successfully gained employment and has been offered two part time jobs that will see her get into the hospitality industry.

Sam was offered jobs at Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club and Newcastle Racecourse. She will assist in the daily running of the hospitality areas, serving guests and building upon the new skills she has gained from the course.

Sam said, “The Foundation courses have helped me to get a job in the line of work I’m interested in. I have gained several qualifications from Food Safety to Level 1 in Football. All the work I have been a part of has helped me to improve my CV and get me to where I want to be. I would recommend Newcastle United Foundation courses to anyone looking to make a positive change to their lives and gain some invaluable experiences and qualifications along the way.”

They were more outgoing on a one to one basis and in group conversation, their general attitude seemed more positive. It was great to see such improvement in a short space of time and I hope that by the end of time spent with the Foundation they grow even more.”

Philip Hall, Head Chef NINE Bar: “I was really happy with the lady we had on placement in the kitchen. She seemed very interested in the job and was happy to do any jobs given to her. She was quite quiet throughout her placement but seemed to enjoy working as part of a kitchen environment. Overall, she was a very useful addition to the team over the two weeks.”
