Talk of the Town Welcome to the Red Industries Stadium for our first Pitching In Northern Premier League South East Division fixture against Sheffield FC, the oldest club in the country. We know from experience that we will have to be on the ball to take the three points from a side who will be well prepared.

We have had a pleasing pre-season and even though we went down to two late goals to a good Halesowen Town team we really showed enough to look forward to a decent season compared to last. In fact we could have been well clear at the break.

We have a fixture change next Saturday when we are down here again in a League fixture against Frickley Athletic KO 3.00 pm - a game which has been brought forward from Tuesday 6th October. It makes sense in the present circumstances as it will help them with travelling and I am sure that we will get more through the gate on a Saturday.

The Youth Team did well in the FA Youth Cup beating Racing Club Warwick 2-1 in a closely fought contest and even better news was that we got through the next round as well after being drawn away to Hereford four the third time in four years because Hereford had withdrawn from the competition.

Today our capacity has gone up to 400 having played in front of just 200 in the FA Cup. There should be plenty of room but we ask you to follow the guidelines and signs around the ground. Make sure we have a name and contact number for yourselves in case we need to track and trace. Hopefully not.

View from the Dugout Good afternoon everybody, we would like to welcome you to the red industries stadium for the 1st league game of the season against Sheffield FC. It's the same opponent as last seasons opener which was played away from home. Last week saw us play Halesowen in the FA cup which was a highly competitive game against one of the highest ranked teams in the competition at that stage which was always going to be tough.

We dominated the first half which saw us go in at half time with a 10 lead which was not really a reflection of the chances created and in the end cost us as 2 late goals from Halesowen saw us loosing the tie 2-1.

Today's opponent Sheffield FC have always prove tough opponents and this game will perhaps give both teams a bit more of an indication on how both team are going to fare this season.

All the hard work that's been put in during this unusually long pre season due to Covid 19 will now be put to the test. I am expecting a good and competitive game of football this afternoon and hope you will enjoy our hospitality and the match.

Welcome to today's opponents Sheffield FC Sheffield Football Club is an English football club from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, although now based in Dronfield, Derbyshire. They currently compete in the Northern Premier League Division One South East. Founded in October 1857, the club was recognised by FIFA as the oldest existing club still playing football in the world.

Sheffield FC initially played games under the Sheffield Rules and did not officially adopt the FA rules until 1878.

History - Sheffield FC Early Football.

Versions of football evolved in many early civilisations, an example of these can be found in ancient China, Greece and Rome. In England, the original games were played between villages in fields and streets. This ‘Mob Football’ involved hundreds of players and was little more than prolonged and violent street battles.

In the 19th century, a more refined version of the game grew in popularity within the public schools and universities, each playing to their own sets of rules.The Birth of Sheffield Foot Ball Club During the 1850s the enthusiasm and influence of ex-public school and university students spread the popularity of the game around Sheffield. In the summer of 1857 William Prest and Nathaniel Creswick agreed that the game would be a splendid candidate for organised sport during the winter months. The pair wrote to the Public Schools for information, regarding their varying rules, with the aim of drawing up a set of laws embodying the best points from each. On October 24th 1857, the world’s first football club was born in a greenhouse.

Early YearsInitially, early matches, such as Married men v Unmarried, were played between club members. Records also show games against local army sides. Following victory over the 58th Army Regiment in 1860 a local report stated that “most of the officers were adepts at the game, having, in their younger days, played in the publicschool matches, and the victory of the civilians was quite unexpected.”

Following the birth of Hallam F.C., the world’s first inter-club game took place on Boxing Day in 1860. The match “was conducted with good temper and in a friendly spirit”, concluding in a 2-0 win for Sheffield. For several years all matches were played locally, against a rising number of new sides, before the first ‘out of town’ match was played in Nottinghamshire in 1865. In 1866 Sheffield became the first non-London side to play under FA Laws when they met London at Battersea Park.

The FA Cup was founded in 1871 and in its third season Sheffield became the first northern side to take part and the first non-London side to win a tie. They succeeded in reaching the Quarter-Finals in this and two further seasons also, 1876 and 1878, the club’s support helping the FA Cup nearly treble in size and become a nationwide competition.

1872 saw the first international game, between England and Scotland in Glasgow, with Sheffield’s Charles Clegg playing for the England side. Clegg would later go on to be Chairman, and President, of the FA and receive a knighthood for his services to the game.

From the 1880s onwards the rise of professionalism and Sheffield Club’s firm insistence on retaining their amateur status saw them overtaken and overshadowed by other sides in the area During these years the very survival of the club owed much to the leadership of former players Harry Chambers and Harry Broughton Willey. It wasn’t all doom and gloom though! In fact, Sheffield enjoyed possibly their greatest hour in 1904 when they won the Amateur Cup, beating Ealing 3-1 at Valley Parade, Bradford.

YORKSHIRE LEAGUE 1949 brought admission to the Yorkshire League and a resurgence, which saw the side promoted to Division One in their third season and reach the League Cup final in 1953. In 1957 they celebrated their Centenary year and reached their first Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Cup Final in 1962.

After a period of yo-yoing between divisions the 1977 side were crowned Division Two Champions and reached that season’s FA Vase Final at Wembley. They established themselves as a top division side in the Yorkshire League, lifting the League Cup in 1978, before joining the newly founded Northern Counties East League in 1982.

NORTHERN COUNTIES LEAGUE The Division One title was won in both 1989 and 1991 and a first Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Cup win came in 1994. In 2001 the club acquired a permanent ground, for the first time, when moving to its current home. After the turn of the century the side began to consistently challenge for promotion, also winning the League Cup and Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Cup twice apiece. The 2006/07 season ended with a 2nd place finish and promotion to the Northern Premier League.

NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE The cllub made an instant impact in reaching the 2008 Play-off Final, narrowly losing only on penalties. That first season also saw games against Inter Milan and Ajax at Bramall Lane, as part of the 150th birthday celebrations, and a few years later a win at Hallam’s Sandygate ground to mark the same anniversary of the first inter-club match. Sheffield were then twice more involved in the Play-offs over the next few seasons and lifted the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Cup again in 2008 and 2010. After finishing 9th in 2012/13 the side languished in the bottom half of the table for five years before finishing 4 th and reaching the Play-offs again last season.

With thriving women’s, youth, disability and futsal teams the club goes from strength to strength and stays true to its roots in playing for the love of the game.

Sheffield FC Home Of Football Stadium Stadium Info With a capacity of 2089, The Home of Football Stadium is the first permanent home of Sheffield FC. The club moved to the ground in 2001 and opened the stadium with an exhibition match against Manchester United. The Stadium is located on land to the rear of the Coach and Horses pub.

The stadium has seating for 250 and a terrace stand including disabled facilities and 2 refreshment outlets.

Saturday 12th September | FA Cup Premli Round Two goals in the last 10 minutes put pay to Castle's hopes of progress in this year's Emirates FA Cup as they went down 2-1 to Halesowen Town.

Castle had much the better of the first half, hitting the woodwork twice and missing two further chances before a dreadful error by the Halesowen keeper who tried to dribble the ball out but saw Ryan McLean nip in and put the ball into the net.

Halesowen came back into it in the second half but Castle defended stubbornly with Dominic Kurasik producing an incredible save to keep Town ahead. Despite another fine save by Kurasik two late goals in the last 10 minutes from Richard Gregory and Jack Holmes saw the visitors return happy down the M6 with their place in the next round secured.

Newcastle Town Youth Update The U19 Kicked off the season with a 1-1 home drawn with Chelmsley FC. Castle took a galf time lead with a Zach Lundstram goal linking up with the impressive Logan Taylor, however the visitors levelled with a spectacular free kick against the run of play.

The U16's started their season with a very impressive 6-1 victory over AFC Telford at Roe Lane. Newcastle dominated the game and were 4 up by the half way point.

We wish all our youth teams the best of luck for the season as most will get going this weekend in the various youth leagues that our sides play in.
