Lap Swim Hours Lap Pool Only

The Lap pool is 25 yards in length with three dedicated lanes for lap swim. Swimmers are to circle swim when there are more than 2 people per lane. Lanes are arranged by speed and swimmers may be asked to move if an adjustment is needed.

Fishing in the City

Reel in some fun at Fishing in the City! Calling all young anglers ages 5–15 to come join Newark Recreation & Public Works for a FREE morning of outdoor adventure! Learn how to cast, tie knots, and handle fish like a pro, all while trying your luck at a freshly stocked lake! No pre-registration needed just show up, grab a pole, and get hooked on a new hobby! Please note that parents must be present with their child during this event.

Join us for the ultimate spring kickoff event, and best of all, it’s free! Rain or shine, we’ll be bringing smiles, games, and activities to make unforgettable memories with loved ones. NEW Run 4 Fun : Family Fun Run & 4K Race

Join us for the first ever Run 4 Fun Family Fun Run & 4K Race! Choose your pace… one lap for fun or two laps for a challenge. All participants will receive a completion medal, water, and snacks at the finish line. The 4K Race will feature prizes for the top three finishers in each age group and gender, with podium recognition for our winners!

Family Fun Run: One lap around the Newark Lake (approx. 1.25 miles) Perfect for families, beginners, and all ages looking for a relaxed run or walk. Participants ages 3 and under are free. Check-in begins at 9:00am, race begins promptly at 9:30am.

4K Race: Two laps around the Newark Lake (approx. 4 kilometers / 2.49 miles) Check-in begins at 9:30am, race begins promptly at 10:00am.

Silent Splash Swim Night

Dive into fun with our Inclusive Silent Splash Swim Night! Designed for children with diverse abilities, our program features a variety of engaging activities, including sensory stations, arts and crafts, and more. For safety, a parent or guardian must accompany each child in the water, with one adult per child. All participants are required to pay. We look forward to welcoming you and your families to our inclusive and engaging swimming activities. If the minimum number of registered participants is not met by the week before the program date, the program could be cancelled.

Life Skills: Hands on Cooking

This fun, supportive class is part of our adaptive programming and is designed to teach essential kitchen skills to individuals who may benefit from an adaptive learning environment. Community Stroll Around the Lake

Autism Awareness Month

Join us for our Autism Awareness Month community stroll around the Lake! You get to decide if you will run, walk, or roll on wheels around the Newark Lake, the choice is yours. This will be a joyful and inclusive event where everyone is invited to move at their own pace! Show your support by wearing any shade of blue. Enjoy music, games, and family-friendly activities before the stroll around the lake begins. Betty Gentry Dance Children’s Classes

Revue Information: Dancers registered in this session have the opportunity to perform in our 63rd Annual Dance Revue at the Newark Memorial High School Theater. The date is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 16th (2 Shows) and Sunday, May 17th (2 Shows) but subject to change. The class fee includes a costume fee of $60-$75. Each dancer will receive one costume as selected by instructors. Dance Revue apparel (t-shirts, sweatshirts, and tote bags) will be on sale in February for dancers and their families. Registrations will not be accepted after 2nd class meeting *Jr. Workshop: A minimum of 2 complete years of Dance Combo is recommended. **Workshop: A minimum of 2 complete years of tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary or any combination of structured dance class is recommended.

Fancy Feet Dance Classes

Kendo “The Way of the Sword”

KENDO is rooted in the sword fighting techniques of the ancient Japanese warrior “SAMURAI.” Martial art conditions the body and mind through traditional physical and spiritual training, ignites continuous self-improvement, and forges a warrior spirit to conquer adversity.

Beginner: This class is for those who have never practiced Kendo or need to brush up the fundamental movements of Kendo. The beginner class focuses on the basics and understanding the characteristics of kendo. A non-refundable material fee of $45 is due to the instructor at the first-class meeting. Kendo “The Way of the Sword”

KENDO is rooted in the sword fighting techniques of the ancient Japanese warrior “SAMURAI.” Martial art conditions the body and mind through traditional physical and spiritual training, ignites continuous self-improvement, and forges a warrior spirit to conquer adversity.

Beginner: This class is for those who have never practiced Kendo or need to brush up the fundamental movements of Kendo. Please Note: Due to the Aquatic Center’s tentatively scheduled maintenance closure from February through April, swim lessons will only be offered during the January session. We will be taking waitlist registrations for single-day Skills Boost Private Lessons for April, in the event that the maintenance closure concludes early, we will fill the Skills Boost classes from the waitlist on a first come basis.

The Newark Swim Lesson Program provides the highest quality of swim instruction available. We look at swim instruction as a necessary life skill and want to make swimming an enjoyable lifelong activity for you and your family. Lessons are tailored to age and skill within a level. Remember not to compare your child’s progress with other swimmers as everyone learns at a different pace. Children are tested on the first day of each session and placed into the appropriate class level. We hope that you enjoy your swimming experience with us and welcome any of your comments or suggestions. Swim lessons are 25 minutes long, except for Adult and Competitive swim classes, which are 45 minutes.

Refund/Make-Up Policy:

Activity Refund Processing: Please note that a minimum of five (5) working days’ notice is required before the session begins. Refund requests have a $15 processing fee. Transferring enrollment to another session also incurs a $15 fee.

Please note: There will be no make-up classes, credits, or refunds for any missed classes due to accidents, injuries, illnesses, or personal scheduling conflicts.

Aquatot Instructor to student ratio is 1:10.

This interactive class is for parents and children ages 6 months - 3 years. The instructor will lead the parents through a variety of skills to teach their child. The parent is the primary instructor for their child and is required to be in the water with the child in a swimsuit. Children must wear a swim diaper under their suit. The class is designed to get the child acclimated in the water and to begin to work on entry-level swim readiness skills. Upon successful completion or age advancement the student will move into the preschool lesson program. 6 month - 3 years

Preschool Instructor to student ratio is 1:4 to 1:6

3 - 5 years

This course offers swimming levels 1-3 for children ages 3-5 years. Children work on water exploration and adjustment skills such as bubble blowing, putting face in the water, and floating with support. They will progress to more advanced skills such as front crawl and back stroke. Instructor to student ratio is 1:4 to 1:6. Children who master level 3 or age up will move to a youth level class at the appropriate level to their ability.

Youth Instructor to student ratio is 1:6 to 1:8

6 - 12 years

This swim lesson program offers all swimming levels for children ages 6-12 years. Levels range from the first level in which students start to develop good attitudes and safe practices around the water all the way to Level 5 where students are swimming all the basic strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, Elementary backstroke, Sidestroke, and butterfly).

Adult/Teen Instructor to student ratio is 1:6.

This course is designed to help teens/adults ages 13 years and up meet their swim lesson needs from beginner to advance and focusing on the individual needs of each student. Classes are 45 minutes long.

Private and Skills Boost Private Instructor to student ratio is 1:1.

3+ years

Private lessons are full session based 1 on 1 individualized instruction for ages 3 years and up looking for a more personalized approach. These lessons are focused on individual goals and progression. Skills boost private lessons are a single 25-minute private class that focuses on 1 to 2 skills for the student’s needs.

Competitive Swim Instructor to student ratio is 1:8.

This swim lessons is for ages 6-12 years who have successfully completed Youth Level 5 and is a pre-swim team program. This will be a 45-minute structured workout focusing on competitive swim training and correcting minor stroke form.

NEW American Red Cross Babysitter Training

The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training program is designed to prepare youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. NEW Junior Lifeguard Homework Club

Junior Lifeguard Homework Club is a camp for youth ages 11-16 in which participants will be introduced to Lifeguarding land-based concepts for 1 hour per day while also receiving 1 hour a day of help with their homework. Participants will cover topics such as surveillance, rotation, rule enforcement, RID factor, safety skills, recognition and emergency response.
