Workmen’s Compensation
Workmen’s Compensation insurance is designed to protect a company against their liabilities towards their employees with respect to injuries suffered by them in the course of their employment as per U.A.E.’s Labour Law/Workmen’s Compensation Ordinance. In the UAE the compensation is governed by Chapter 8 of Federal Law No. 1980. The types of illness and injury covered by a workmen’s insurance policy include:
● Injuries caused by trips, slips and falls
● Injuries caused by faulty or misused equipment
● Burns or other injuries caused by fire or corrosive substances
● Injuries as a result of loose or falling equipment
● Injuries sustained while bending or lifting
● Repetitive-strain injuries
● Any injury or illness caused by incompetence or negligence on the part of the company
Do I need a Workmen’s Compensation Policy?
Should an employee suffer an accident, injury or death as a result of their job or working conditions, the employer is required under the UAE Labour law to provide compensation and funds to cover medical costs and lost earnings. Without an adequate insurance policy in place, your business may find itself liable for substantial pay-outs. But workmen’s compensation insurance isn’t just for peace of mind. In many casesdepending on your location and the nature of your business – it may be compulsory.
