STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

This guide has been put together to let you know about all the ways we can support you, both during term time and the holidays.

It also lets you know about other organisations that can support you.

DURING TERM TIME COUNSELLING SERVICES

If you are facing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety or OCD, the highly trained and qualified psychotherapists at The Talking Rooms can help you work through them. Your Student Adviser can refer you to counselling services after talking to you about your needs. Alternatively, you can refer yourself for counselling using this link: https://www.thetalkingrooms.com/self-referral/

The Talking Rooms Service is available during term time. During holiday periods you can refer yourself using the link above. If you are facing a crisis during the holidays, the Talking Rooms have a crisis section of their website signposting to agencies who can help: https://www.thetalkingrooms.com/in-crisis/

YOUR QUESTION SPACE Your Question Space is the digital one-stop shop where all your questions can be answered.

You can find it here: https://nclan.myday.cloud/dashboard/yqs On there, you’ll find a video from last year’s student president, KathleenAnne Fannan, who takes you through everything that you can find on Your Question Space and explains how to use it.

There are answers to lots of Frequently Asked Questions about your money, student records, your attendance, advice and guidance, supporting your studies, your student association and your career. So if you have a question, there’s a good chance you’ll find the answer there.

But if you can’t find an answer, don’t worry – you can use our Live Chat facility to ask one of the team. They are available from 10.30am - 11.30am and 3pm - 4pm, Monday to Friday.

You can also send a message outside these hours and a member of the team will get back to you when they’re live again.

STUDENT ASSOCIATION AND YOUR STUDENT PRESIDENTS

NCL has three Student Presidents, who are each based at one of our main campuses. Your Student Presidents lead the Students’ Association. The Students’ Association ensures the interests and views of the student body are fairly represented, not just within the College but also locally and nationally. We want you to feel that your voice is heard.

Each Student President is on campus two days a week and available online at all other times.

STUDENT ADVISERS If you are experiencing issues with your course or personal life, our Student Advisers are here to listen and offer guidance. We can talk to you about welfare, disciplinary matters, finances, homelessness, personal issues and mental health - and we can also signpost you to other organisations who can support you.

To book an appointment with one of our Student Advisers please email studentadviser@nclan.ac.uk with your name, student number and preferred appointment method (Zoom, Teams, telephone or face to face).

LEARNER ENGAGEMENT The Learner Engagement team run extra-curricular activities and are there to enhance the student experience. There are many projects in the College such as our new sports clubs, competitions enterprise and Be Engaged.

FREE PERIOD PRODUCTS New College Lanarkshire, in partnership with Hey Girls offer a range of free of charge, chlorine and bleach free, environmentally friendly period products. Products can be found on campus, and for students who are learning remotely, shielding or self-isolating, products can be sent direct to your home. EDUCATIONAL LEARNING SUPPORT The Educational Learning Support team can help you if you have: • Dyslexia, dyspraxia or AD(H)D • Autistic Spectrum Disorder

• Long-term illness, eg. diabetes, epilepsy

• Physical impairment or mobility issue • Mental health condition, eg. depression, anxiety • Blind or serious visual impairment

• D/deaf or serious hearing impairment

• A disability or medical condition not listed above

You can also get support if social or emotional issues are affecting your ability to study, if you are a young carer or are care-experienced.

DURING HOLIDAYS

If you or anyone you know is in need of help with your mental health while the college is closed, please visit the crisis section on the Talking Rooms website, which has a list of organisations who remain open over holiday periods: https://www. thetalkingrooms.com/in-crisis/

Whether struggling to sleep, feeling low, stressed or unable to cope, Togetherall (formerly Big White Wall) is here to help you get support, take control and feel better.

HOW DOES IT WORK? • NCL staff and students have access to a 24/7 online global community and professional support from trained professionals. Togetherall provides a safe space online to get things off your chest, explore your feelings, get creative and learn how to self-manage your mental health and wellbeing.

• Members remain totally anonymous to other members in the community, and personal information is kept secure while on the site (see Togetherall’s privacy statement here - https://togetherall.com/en-gb/ privacy-policy/).

• The College will not be informed if you have signed up to the service or know of your activity on the service unless Togetherall are seriously concerned about an individual’s safety.

• Most members report feeling better and more able to cope with their workloads as a result of using the service and nearly 90% use Togetherall outside of 9-5pm.
