Vision Problems Due To Brain Emergency

Acute pupillary dilation is a neurological emergency in a head-injured patient. The dilation of the Pupil takes place due to herniation and brain stem compromise giving rise to mechanical compression of the cranial nerve. Several researchers have used a pupilometer for the evaluation of pupillary reaction and assessed the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. The device helps observe drug injury and fatigue, measures the metabolism of drugs, and has several other applications in both human beings and animals. In the Internal Care Unit, pupilometry is used for critically ill neurological patients. Besides measuring pupillary size and reaction, it is also beneficial for optical pupilometry in case of traumatic brain injury. A neurological assessment is but the inspection of motor responses and sensory neurons. The reflexes help evaluate the nervous system. A physical examination along with an examination of the patient's medical history is important. The Iris size and pupillary diameter are regulated by two muscles, namely the sphincter pupillae and dilator pupillae. The first one is under the control of the parasympathetic nervous system while the latter one functions under the control of the sympathetic nervous system.
