WE ROCK MHLUZI & KAGISO TO BID 2024 FAREWELL!

A year to thrive, 2020-thrive!
The 365 days of 2025 will be massive for Net Nine Nine as we celebrate five years of existence in the industry under the leadership of captain, Albert Oosthuysen and the entire company C-Suite (executives holding senior leadership positions).
The plane is about to take off heading towards 12 September where we will celebrate half a decade of our existence, first registration as a company, though our first fibre line was turned active a year later –we’re five-years in the game.
Lifting up the sky won’t be an easy feat – we’ve gone through all the relevant check-ins at our Kramerville Airport, went through security checks, checked in our bags, carried our hand luggage onboard, jumped onboard, located our seats in numbers, and now we’re being addressed by our captain.
Interestingly, our pilot is revealing that Net Nine Nine’s Boeing Net992025 will cruise at an altitude of 2025-above-sea-level at a speed of 2025kmh, and it will touch down at the promised land at 20h25 – see what I’ve done there.
Now, the runaway is in front of us, onboard Boeing Net992025 to the land of success, and we’re just waiting for Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in the control tower to instruct us to depart – and it should be a delicate
trip considering all our clients onboard from eight province across the country.
All Net Nine Nine staffers have committed and made themselves available to co-operate with the Boeing Net992025 cabin crew, and vowed to form part of this institution for the duration of the flight.
This is the year of execution, and all HOD’s are onboard and we’re just about to take off to the skies.
I urge all employees that we are ready to zoom straight above sea level after having worked hard in connecting our clients, just about 60 months in this telecommunications space, 1 825 days of incredible service to the people while making it fashionable.
This is our second home where we spent the better part of our lives, eight hours to be precise, and we have the capacity to fly onboard in this fully fueled Boeing Net992025 to the land of success and miracles.
To add excitement to year was the commitment shown by our team of colleagues - it was great seeing majority of them working tirelessly throughout the festive period while many were resting, and this goes to show that they have taken ownership of Boeing Net992025.
They’ve proven that tagging into the Net Nine Nine entry office door daily is an indication that they’re real assets to this company.
I urge all my colleagues to fasten their seatbelts as this trip will not be without turbulence, but rest assured, we will reach our destination with all hands on deck from all corners of the company.
We will thrive collectively this year.
Everything that we need will happen.
The majority of you will see it happen.
No one is greater than this institution, but only our clients.
This is the year made for us as Net Nine Nine, enjoy it.
Siyabangena, 2025!
Dr Nicholas Thipe
Thabong store’s first administrator as Net Nine Nine hits
Precious Matlakeng has dedicated her life to Net Nine Nine – it’s the only fibre network operator she’s been “married to” throughout her working experience.
As one of the first employees to join Net Nine Nine in the Thabong store after moving from another reputable Fibre Network Operator (FNO), Matlakeng, who hails from Oppenheimer Park in Thabong, Free State, was the pioneer who opened the doors to our store at Boitumelo Junction Shopping Centre.
She vividly remembers the day the store went live in 2022 and she was informed that she would be running it, a space that now welcomes a constant stream of shoppers daily.
“To be honest, my ambition was always to work on the road as a salesperson, but when this opportunity presented itself, I grabbed it and put my dreams of working in the field aside,” said the proud Store Coordinator.
“I’ve grown to love this brand to such an extent that I spend the better part of my day thinking about it – something I think has turned into an obsession. I even toy around with new ideas at home on how to keep our clients happy, involving family members in brainstorming sessions.
“Sjoe, they often remind me to separate work from family time. It’s wrong to compromise family time for work, but I’m so attached to Net Nine Nine that I can’t help myself. I’ve grown so protective of it and struggle to handle criticism about Net99. This is because I’ve been through so much with this company – both good and bad. My life revolves around Net Nine Nine.”
From being a Team Leader to Store Coordinator was a swift transition for Matlakeng, who rose to prominence during the Covid-19 era, making her mark in the telecommunications industry.
“Time flies! I can’t believe it’s been this long – three years with the company,” she recalls.
“It started off rough for us here in Thabong, but we held on for dear life. Now, we manage a team of over 20 field agents, as well as five staff members running the store. Our slow start taught us resilience. I’d often watch colleagues in the field, thinking, ‘If only they knew the power of this brand.’ That’s where the fun of selling the brand lies, and they should be taking full advantage of it.
“It’s heartwarming to connect someone to the internet for the first time in their life. I enjoy solving clients’ queries, whether it’s changing passwords, addressing billing issues, or troubleshooting connections.”
Net Nine Nine will celebrate its fifth anniversary this September, with its first store opening in Kagiso in 2021, followed by Thabong going live a year later.
Another highlight of Matlakeng’s journey with Net Nine Nine has been helping elderly community members get connected to the internet and educating them on how it can transform their lives – a message often affirmed by their children and grandchildren.
What makes Net Nine Nine special and unique compared to competitors is its physical brick and mortar store where clients interact with real human beings rather than faceless systems.
“Elderly clients prefer to make cash payments in-store, while debit orders and online transactions are mostly handled by the younger generation,” she explained.
“Having a store gives them a sense of security because they see real people in front of them, which dispels any fears of being conned by fraudulent companies. This is why they trust us with their money.”
Ever wondered how Net Nine Nine maintains a physical presence across South Africa?
Well, wonder no more! Nkosiyapha Given Mashaya explains how he has successfully secured 13 stores across eight provinces – with many more to come.
It’s an impressive achievement that sets him apart, but Mashaya is quick to remind us that, while it may look easy, the energy and expertise required to make it happen are immense.
“I don’t have formal qualifications in negotiation, design, or implementation,” Mashaya admits, “but experience has been my greatest teacher, moulding me into this career I never expected to have.”
Armed with a Diploma in Travel and Tourism Management, Mashaya previously worked as an MDU (Multiple Dwelling Unit) Acquisitionist for a Fibre Network Operator (FNO). He later joined Net Nine Nine as a Stores Manager and, through hard work and determination, transitioned to his current role as Regional Stores Manager.
“The journey wasn’t easy,” he says. “I had to develop a thick skin to survive, but my colleagues and my manager, Courtney van Lill, supported me every step of the way. Courtney has been my pillar of strength.”
Mashaya is a founding member of Net Nine Nine’s operations centres – or stores – in all the areas the company serves. He highlights the unique role these stores play in Net Nine Nine’s success.
“With Net Nine Nine catering for the elderly and the less fortunate, who might not have the opportunity or ability to use complex technology like live payment applications or online interfaces, having physical stores was a gamechanger,” he explains.
“This is where the idea of the stores came into play –simplifying life for everyone. Stores are where people can engage face-to-face with Net Nine Nine officials, whether to raise complaints, give compliments, or seek assistance. This personal interaction has helped us build a reputation as a reliable, trustworthy company – not a fly-by-night operation.”
Mashaya’s role keeps him on the road, identifying ideal locations for new stores to keep up with the company’s rapid growth.
The Store Setup Process
Mashaya breaks down how the process works:
1. Approval for a New Area: “Once an area is approved, I visit it to scout potential store spaces that align with our vision. I drive around to understand the dynamics of the location.”
2. Location Assessment: “Shopping malls are my first stop. I then engage municipalities, landlords, mall managers, and ward councillors for approvals, lease negotiations, and final agreements.”
3. Store Design: “Our store designer creates a mock-up of how the store will look. Once we’re happy with the design, contractors start turning the vision into reality.”
4. Furnishing and Equipment: “After construction, we bring in furniture and equipment to complete the store, ensuring it’s ready before handover.”
Throughout the process, Mashaya works closely with his colleagues, including Courtney and Bonolo Mabela, who he credits for their unwavering support.
Reflecting on his career, Mashaya expresses pride in what he’s accomplished: “I’m proud of myself and what we’ve built together as a team. It’s been a challenging but rewarding journey.”
He also shares high praise for his manager: “Courtney has been amazing. She focuses on output and gives me the freedom to do my job. We have weekly meetings to track progress, and her support has made me enjoy what I do even more.”
With Mashaya’s passion and dedication, Net Nine Nine’s footprint across South Africa is set to grow even further – one store at a time.
The Net Nine Nine soccer team and staff ended the year on an exciting note in Mhluzi, Middelburg, Mpumalanga, where a variety of events were held. The main focus was on brand awareness and extending our appreciation to the community for rallying behind the brand throughout the year.
The Net Nine Nine soccer team was once again in full swing, sharing the field with local teams as we wound down the year in style. It’s a tradition for this Internet Service Provider (ISP) to end the year with our clients, handing out goodies and entertaining them with performances by various artists on the day.
From there, it was back to Johannesburg, where the Net Nine Nine truck stopped in Kagiso for the annual Made in Mogale Festival, which attracted a large crowd from neighbouring communities.
In fact, this festival draws people every year from outside Gauteng, all of whom enjoyed music from artists such as Oscar Mbo, Tobos Mokwele, Babalwa M, Trompies, and Koki Molf.
As the digital migration progresses and the world continues to shift into a more connected era, access to unlimited internet is no longer a luxury – it is a necessity. For the residents of South Africa’s townships, this resource holds the power to address critical challenges in education, employment, and entrepreneurship, transforming lives and communities.
Stepping into 2025, the availability of unlimited internet through Net Nine Nine’s reliable service has the potential to be a game-changer, unlocking opportunities previously out of reach for many.
Empowering Employment Opportunities
For township residents, the high costs and time associated with commuting to urban centres often pose significant barriers to employment. With unlimited internet, these burdens can be alleviated. Township workers can now participate in remote work opportunities and communicate seamlessly using platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Workspace, without worrying about expensive data usage.
Freelancing platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr provide access to global markets where skills like graphic design, writing, and virtual assistance are in demand. Additionally, unlimited internet allows residents to enhance their skills through online training, ensuring they remain competitive in the global job market.
This connectivity doesn’t just create jobs; it creates sustainable livelihoods, breaking cycles of poverty and fostering economic independence within communities.
Education remains one of the most effective tools for uplifting township communities, and unlimited internet access is bridging the gap in educational resources.
Township learners, often facing overcrowded classrooms and limited access to quality teaching materials, can now benefit from free educational platforms such as Khan Academy, YouTube tutorials, and e-books. These resources supplement classroom learning, enabling students to thrive academically.
For tertiary students, fibre connectivity provides access to virtual classrooms, distance learning, and electronic submission of assignments, allowing them to excel in their studies regardless of geographical limitations.
Adults, too, can benefit by acquiring new skills on platforms like Coursera, Udemy, and LinkedIn Learning, delving into subjects such as coding, robotics, and digital marketing. Continuous learning through podcasts, webinars, and vodcasts encourages self-improvement, fostering growth within the community.
Entrepreneurship is a beacon of hope for economic growth in townships, where formal employment opportunities are often scarce. Unlimited internet serves as a critical tool for entrepreneurs to establish and grow their businesses.
From creating websites and engaging with customers on social media to running e-commerce stores on platforms like Shopify and WhatsApp Business, entrepreneurs can reach larger audiences and expand their operations.
Access to market research and digital marketing tools allows township business owners to run targeted ad campaigns, analyse customer engagement, and scale effectively. Networking platforms like LinkedIn further enable connections with mentors, investors,
and collaborators, opening doors to entrepreneurial success.
Finding and applying for jobs is a daunting task for many township residents, often hindered by limited resources and connectivity. Unlimited internet transforms this experience by granting access to online job boards like Indeed, Glassdoor, and LinkedIn, which offer both local and international opportunities.
Digital certifications earned through online courses enhance résumés, making job seekers more attractive to employers. Virtual interviews, now a standard part of many recruitment processes, are also made accessible, significantly increasing the chances of securing meaningful employment.
Despite these clear benefits, many township residents remain excluded from the digital revolution due to high data costs and inadequate infrastructure. Addressing
these challenges requires a combined effort from government initiatives and private sector partnerships.
Subsidised data plans, community Wi-Fi hotspots, and investments in infrastructure are vital to bridging the digital divide. These measures ensure that township residents are not left behind in South Africa’s digital transformation.
As South Africa marches toward 2025, the importance of unlimited internet access for township communities cannot be overstated. From enabling remote work and enhancing education to driving entrepreneurship and expanding employment opportunities, unlimited internet is the catalyst for empowerment and growth.
By investing in this essential resource, South Africa can ensure that its townships are not only connected but also thriving in an increasingly digital world.
