Rebel Leader
RAISE MUSLIN CURTAIN - ACTION BEGINS
The small mountain village of Lià, just before the outbreak of the Greek Civil War, on Saint Dimitri's day, at the end of Summer in 1946. Most of the villagers are outside the church with the priest, but a growing number of them are going to the village square listening to the leader of the rebel army. In the churchyard in the background, Eleni and her family stand around an open grave. A Sexton (grave-digger) stands in the grave.

Eleni was arrested the morning after the escape. Ηer instinct as a mother had saved us.
She knew, then, that her actions had cost her her life. She was interrogated, brutally beaten and tortured.
She confessed only to doing her duty as a mother and safeguarding her children. After all, she was trying to send us to our father; no more, no less. 71
(*) Letter G: Fermatas of irregular lengths, based on the word - structure of each sentence, but not strictly in sync with the narrator, whose rhythm should be natural and independent. From letter H, however, each sentence must be contained within the corresponding fermata, i.e. the players should hold the crescendo until the narrator reaches the end of each bar.
