Demystifying Soul Purpose

When you read a quote like the above, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with the thought of finding your purpose. But if we think of the word “purpose” as things that we love and enjoy, it becomes easier to wrap your head around.
Think back to your childhood – a time when you lived for joy and fun. As children, we were eager and excited about a variety of activities, ideas, projects, and more. We were living in harmony with our higher self and soul purpose.
As we grew up, we became socialized away from this by being told, “quit fooling around and pay attention,” or “there’s a time for play and there’s a time for work.” We were also told, “this is serious – life is serious,” (by the way, “seriousness” is a trait of the ego).
As we learned the message that life is serious and fun things are frivolous, we lost touch with our true purpose. We were taught to move out of our hearts and into our heads.
Your soul is connected to your heart. Your ego and your intellect are connected to your mind. One of the first things you can do to reconnect with your soul purpose is to get out of your head and back into your heart. Many people are looking for purpose in the form of some striking epiphany, expecting trumpets to sound from the heavens and a magnificent life path to magically appear before them.
Instead, your soul purpose often manifests by cultivating the little things that you love to do. Think about people who are doing what they love. Musicians play because they love music. As that love of music flows through them, the love grows and grows.
Artists create because they love art. The more they do it, the more joy and connection they feel. That’s finding your soul purpose. That’s being in alignment with your heart.
Follow Your Bliss
Joseph Campbell said it best when he said, “follow your bliss.” To start following your unique bliss and reconnecting with your purpose, try asking yourself:
What brings you joy?
What would you do if you could do anything?
What did you love to do as a child?
What do you do that allows you to completely lose track of time?
These might sound like easy questions, but they’re probably more difficult to answer than you think. This is because we have been programmed away from our hearts and into our heads. We’ve been taught to chase money and be “practical” instead of focusing on life’s joys.
What Brings you Joy?
When you’re asked what brings you joy, think about what really connects you to your heart (and therefore, your soul purpose). When we do anything that makes us smile, it puts us into our heart space. That’s where you will find your soul purpose
We are meant to be joyful. We are meant to shine our lights brightly and inspire others to do the same.
Remember that your soul purpose is not your sole purpose. It grows and changes over time, as you do. Just as you can fulfill multiple social roles at once (parent, spouse, sibling, grandparent, cousin, etc.), your soul purpose can also be multifaceted.
Whether it’s meditation, art, or putting on your favorite music and singing and dancing – anything that makes you feel good and brings you joy will align you with your soul purpose.
Be careful not to confuse your purpose with external validation. I was seeking validation outside of myself for years. I have learned from experience that it’s not to be found outside of you. There is a big difference between validation and your soul purpose.
Self-care can help ensure that you are living in alignment with your heart instead of external validation. Nurturing oneself is a wonderful way to honor your soul and help you move into a deeper connection with your purpose.

Let’s See What the Guides have to Say about Soul Purpose
“Humans have made way too much about finding their soul purpose. They’ve put an enormous amount of pressure on themselves because they believe that they are off their path or misaligned.
We assure you, you are never off your path. There is a lot of confusion between validation and your soul purpose. Your soul purpose is inside of you. It’s inside of your heart and it always makes you feel joyful. Validation is the misunderstanding and belief that your world is outside of you.
Everything you see in your life experience is a reflection of what you’re projecting out. Looking for validation outside of you is not going to work. Looking for your soul purpose outside of you is not going to work.
Now do not misunderstand what we’re saying here. If you see something outside of you in the world and it inspires you and moves your heart, your soul projected that for you to find.
Start from a place where you’re already feeling pretty good. A good time is after morning meditation. If you’re in a bad mood, that is not a good time to look for your soul purpose. Do what you can to get yourself into a good mood. That’s when to look for your soul purpose.
Look for what inspires you. Look for what makes you laugh. Look for what brings you joy. Work on loving you more. Work on self-care. The better you feel, the easier it is to find the things that light you up and inspire you.
You are a multifaceted being. Your soul purpose is also multi-faceted. The simplest part of your soul purpose is what lights you up like a lighthouse so that you shine brightly out into the world. There are many facets to that, but at the core, your soul purpose is always joy.”
The guides want you to know that you’re worthy!
Until next time. Light & Love, Ed
