FootbaLL: Nelson College first XI will face league champions Suburbs Seals in the final of the Tasman Trophy after contrasting wins. Nelson College, who are in Papamoa this week defending their national secondary schools crown, beat Marlborough Mariners 3-2 in extra time. The Seals downed Richmond Athletic 4-1 in the other semi-final. A late goal from goalkeeper Coey Turipa helped Nelson Suburbs to a 1-0 win over Coastal Spirit in Christchurch. The result means the team finishes second in the Mainland Premier League for 2016. CRICket: The New Zealand White Ferns women’s cricket team will play two one day internationals and a twenty20 international at Nelson’s Saxton Oval in November. New Zealand will play Pakistan in all three games, with the two ODIs on November 17 and 19 starting at 11am and the T20 match starting at 3pm on November 21. The Pakistan women have only visited New Zealand once before – in 1997, losing both ODIs.

Nelson duo win every major football trophy Jacob Page

FC Nelson footballers Richard Scott and Lutz Gerwin have become the first players to win every senior football trophy in Nelson. The pair won the masters title earlier this month to complete the amazing feat. Together, they have won the 2nd Division, 3rd Division, Masters Division, Gould and Tout Trophy, AF Hurst Cup, Masters Knockout Cup, Glen Stephens Trophy and Top of the South League. Richard has won the 1st Divison, Price Charity Cup and McCarthy Challege Cup with Nelson Suburbs and the 1st Division again in 2007 with Nelson United Reserves. Lutz won the 1st Division with FC Nelson in 2012. “A standout period for us was 2008 and 2009 when the Nelson United Reserves remained unbeaten and dominated the 2nd Division and Glen Stephens Competition,” Richard says. sure; I can’t imagine there are too many people who can say they’ve done this in their sport.” Richard has also been player/ coach in a majority of the victories and he credited the quality players he had played with as key contributors to

the success. Both men say they will be back next year. “I just love playing football and it keeps me fit,” Richard says. “Once I hang up my boots that’ll be it for me, but I got through this season fully fit so I’ll keep going.”
