HOW DOES

SUMMER I Include Antioxidants in Your Facial Skin Care Routine. Invest in a good antioxidant serum this summer. Not only does it hydrate your skin, but it can protect your skin from environmental damage, helps boost collagen production, and will AFFECT YOUR SKIN? Here are some tips from Skin by Lindsay that will help keep your summer skin healthy and hydrated. 1 scavenge harmful free radicals to prevent skin damage. Good for combination skin as well as normal to oily skin.

You can include antioxidants in your skin care regimen by adding them to your diet as well. Stock up on citrus fruits, green and leafy vegetables, green tea, nuts, and whole grains to have younger looking skin.

2 Lighten up your skin-care routine.

Swap out your heavier cleanser (think cream cleanser) for a gentle, foaming option or an oil cleanser.

3 Invest in a solid vitamin C serum.

Vitamin C is great year-round, but all the more important in the summer. It helps prevent hyperpigmentation, improves the appearance of fine lines, and can help with collagen production. Layer a few drops on your skin between cleansing and rosehip-oiling your skin.

4 Add an exfoliation skin-care step.

Dermatologists often remind us not to over-exfoliate, but summertime is the season to slough away. If you have oily skin, even dermatologists encourage people to incorporate more exfoliation into their skin routine.

You don’t have to use sandy / scratchy face scrubs that do more harm than good. Try Glycholic acids or alpha-hydroxy acids.

5 Make sure all your makeup is non-comedogenic.

Non-comedogenics are formulated without pore-clogging ingredients. In summer especially, you should be wearing make-up that won’t occlude your skin. This might include options like a powder sunscreen, an oil-free primer, or a lightweight foundation. Or rosehip oil and tinted zinc, nothing more.

6 Skin care treatments you can and should have during summer.

While pigmentation correction treatments are better suited for winter, you can have them in summer as well if you take the right precautions (and your skin clinician does too).

IPL Skin rejuvenation facials, Collagen induction facials (skin needling) and even hair removal are safe in summer, as long as your skin clinician does not treat your summer skin colour at the same level as your winter skin one. LED light therapy facials are fine all year round without needing to consider your skin’s summer glow.

7 Don't forget to hydrate.

Hydration is always important for our skin, but even more so in summer. Aim to drink eight glasses of water a day. Hydration can also help skin recover after a sunburn — which are obviously best avoided altogether.

Now go and enjoy the beautiful summer weather! (Please ensure a large brimmed hat and zinc are on you, though.)

200kms* Full charge 9 hrs Fast charge 80% 30 mins Does a fully electric car spark your interest? As they become more affordable and convenient, Electric Vehicles are becoming more popular. Here’s Neighbourhood Media’s top 5 pick on the current market.

AUDI has a rich history of making achingly stylish cars with an understated whiff of quiet luxury; and while they may be a little late to the EV market, the E-Tron makes an uncharacteristically brash and utterly, wonderfully ridiculous debut to the market. Subtle it is not. While it whisks you along at unmentionable speeds (and it will) you can be assured that it comes with every toy and gadget money can buy, to make your life as effortless as possible, as well as having a range-anxiety busting, erm, range. PROS; Big, luxurious, vault-like build quality, range. CONS; Big, bolshy and very expensive. THE diminutive BMW i3s is something of a giant among EVs. Comparatively early to the market and boasting “techy” details such as carbon-composite chassis technology as well as eco materials for the futuristic and cleverly stylish interior, this little car is big on interior space, as well as the all important range (it also comes with a tiny range extender petrol engine to ease one’s anxiety). The magic with this car is the odd-to-some styling and the eternally delightful rear “suicide” doors. PROS; Small, futuristic styling, impressive eco credentials. CONS; Futuristic styling might be a little bit divisive for some.

HYUNDAI have an impressive range of EVs on their books, but the IONIQ is one of the most “normal” on the market, looking, as it does, a bit like your mum’s hatchback. This is a very clever car though, with a host of driver aids (an awesome ‘Jetsons’ “turbine” sound being the least useful perhaps) making it very good value for money. The range is a fantastic and useable 370-ish kms and the fast charge to 80% in a scant 25 minutes - just long enough for a coffee while it charges - is excellent. PROS; Looks normal, practical, price, standard features, range. CONS; Looks a bit normal, a bit cheap feeling inside. TESLA is synonymous with EV motoring, however their approach is worlds apart from other manufacturers. The 3 is brutally fast (‘Ludicrous Mode’ anyone?), can drive itself (where legal) and has options of delighfully dubious practicality such as a virtual log fire and whoopee cushion function. That it is also a stylish, practical car you can fit all your friends in, with a usable range and the best charging infrastructure in the world also makes it the EV everyone wants. PROS; Tech-fest, very, very fast, practical, ease of charging. CONS; “Iffy” build quality, expensive, absolutely everywhere. MINI is known for producing fun, fast and relatively affordable cars and the MINI e hasn’t changed that formula one iota. To drive, an EV MINI is virtually the same as driving its petrol cousins; fantastic interior, great attention to detail, roomy for two, a bit of a squeeze for more than that, zippy and stylish. The only difference being the electric drivetrain. Sure, the range is a bit rubbish and no MINI can be described as “practical”, but you’ll be having too much fun to care. PROS; Fun, small, zippy, build quality. CONS; A bit expensive, not exactly practical, range.
