TJoin our community @ YOURNEIGHBOURHOODMEDIA TARA REID explains how horses can be a wonderful aid for people with emotional or social difficulties, or for anyone who wants an incredible life experience. Sydney Equine Assisted Services was established in October 2019 to share my love of horses with local children, provide equine therapy visits into residential aged care or schools and offer equine assisted learning to people of all ages. In addition to learning about horses, our sessions suit anyone who benefits from an experiential learning environment to develop life skills such as emotional regulation, play, communication and social skills. We run programs for kids, such as Pony Play (one off sessions), Horse Care for Beginners (6-8 week course), Intermediate and Advanced Horse Care (8 week courses) and over summer will be offering Horses and Art holiday programs. Individual sessions for adults are arranged to suit and can include anything from a mindfulness session through to preparing for the EA Introductory Horse Management Certificate. We are in the process of registering for the Active Kids program and with NDIS. Our team has three beautiful equine members: Jasper, the old man of the team is a 19yo grey Arabian cross and is a gentleman who loves attention. Rocky is 14yo and is a miniature spotted pony, perfect for building children’s confidence. Our youngest team member is Chaska, at 9yo, who is a golden Appaloosa and also loves kids and being cared for. All our human team members (Tara, Leonie and Inge) have Working With Children checks and love what they do! We look forward to meeting you and working out how we can help spread the equine love!

SST IVES Shopping Village turned 60 this year and wishes to thank its many loyal customers for each of those birthday candles. Beginning with 40 mostly family-owned stores and a supermarket, the Village has catered to and grown with the burgeoning population of this leafy North Shore suburb, becoming an integral part of the local community.

Within ten years of its grand opening, St Ives Shopping Village had established itself as the retail and commercial centre of the district. In 2018 it was ranked the most successful regional shopping centre in Australia with the highest moving annual turnover. There are now over 110 retailers in the Village covering every aspect of home, health and living: fashion and accessories, homewares, jewellery and gifts, dining and catering, travel and services, health practitioners, medical centre and pharmacies, Woolworths, Coles and Harris Farm.

What really gives the Village its heart is the core of long-term retailers, many of whom have transferred ownership across generations. Michael Newton-Brown owns Leisures Shoe Boutique which has been part of the Village from the beginning. His grandmother, Eunice Jackson, started her own footwear line in 1943 and was invited to lease a shop when St Ives Shopping Village opened. The Eunice Jackson brand is among the premium quality shoes now sold in the store.

Chris Boffa opened Boffa Hairdressing Salon in 1981, trained his son Paul in the art of cutting hair, and then handed him the business. Paul also now runs Salon St Ives. O’Loughlin’s Medical Pharmacy has been in the Village since 1995 and has clocked up seven NSW Small Business Awards. Owner, Brendan O’Loughlin, also owns St Ives Priceline Pharmacy (previously McFadden’s Pharmacy), which has the distinction of being one of the Village’s longest standing businesses.
