THE rivers are full and the waterfalls are overflowing with all the rain we have had recently. And, in our view, there’s no better way of showing off their power and intensity than with a long exposure photograph. Needless to say, our feature article this issue includes the stunning nature shots from in and around Ku-ring-gai by local photographer Robyn Connacher. And with nature at the forefront, we thought you may also be interested in heading out to explore one of the indigenous trails in the local area. With such a rich Aboriginal history and culture in the region, there are plenty of surprises along the way, including rock art carved into rocky outcrops, a form of communication used by the local indigenous people of this area hundreds of years ago. If you’re looking to get the kids outdoors while the weather is still good, a visit to the Wildflower Gardens is in order. And for those more inclined towards going on a trail of the foodie type, we have a collection of Asian-inspired restaurants for you. We hope you enjoy this issue and encourage you to explore 2075 this Easter. Stay safe and enjoy the changing of the seasons as winter approaches. - Lisa G

HISTORY KU-RING-GAI ABORIGINES – THE NON-EXISTENT TRIBE THAT LEFT A RICH LEGACY By Alec Smart

LEGACY Although most of the Indigenous Darramurragal and Garigal hunter-gatherer peoples of, respectively, Sydney’s upper North Shore and upper Northern Beaches, were either driven from the area by European settlers or succumbed to the deadly smallpox epidemic of 1789, they left behind incredible examples of their culture. These include petroglyph communications – engravings of animals and figures in sandstone rocks - to other important remnants that reveal how they lived, interacted and sourced food. Shell middens, stone and ochre quarries, campsites, rocks adapted for seed-grinding and tool-sharpening, ceremonial sites and scarred trees from which bark and wood were removed for boomerangs, woomeras (spear launchers), shields, canoes, coolamons (carrying vessels) and gunyas (temporary shelters). If you know where to look, they make for fascinating glimpses into an ages-old culture that was pushed aside, but whose timeless presence remains all around us.. A message from the Mayor Celebrating and reflecting on the achievements of women, it was great to see so many events and recognition for International Women’s Day last week. This year’s theme ‘Choose To Challenge’ is an opportunity to think about what we can all do – be it mentoring, support or challenging bias - to celebrate women’s achievements and take action for equality. My mother’s example was a strong influence in my life. During WWII she trained as a registered nurse as she wanted to make a difference by helping others and serving her community. Although she took some time out of the workforce to be a full-time mother, she returned to her nursing career in Chatswood and Lane Cove during my school years, at a time when many married women didn’t work. My mother encouraged me from a young age to volunteer with St John Ambulance and visit residents of local nursing homes. She was very active in our school Parents’ Association and passionate about Australian history, helping indigenous communities and architectural heritage. This has influenced the person I have become and my choice to serve the community and a desire to make a difference.

Having become Ku-ring-gai’s longest serving mayor in Council’s 104 year history, I continue to encourage more women to become councillors. If you are committed to your local community and have a passion to support others then public service can be very rewarding. The Australian Local Government Women’s Association is supporting councils to hold forums for prospective women councillors in and I have asked staff to organise one for Ku-ring-gai Council. Nominations to become a councillor open 26 July through the NSW Electoral Commission’s website. It is exciting to see the return of our Seniors Festival from 12 to 29 April. Festival highlights include come and try sessions such as dancing and yoga, excursions, health and wellbeing talks and help with retirement living. The Festival will be run with health guidelines and protocols in place. More information at krg.nsw.gov.au/seniors Jennifer Anderson, Mayor of Ku-ring-gai 9424 0709 | facebook.com/kcmayor

Where would you most like to photograph, given the chance? I’d love to go to New Zealand South Island again - I was there in 2016 and loved the scenery and would love to return just to take loads of photos and share them. After that, definitely Tasmania same reason: extreme natural beauty. There has been a lot of rain recently, has this had an impact on your work? Absolutely! The rain has increased the number of long exposure shots that I have taken - rivers, waterfalls and reflections in the puddles. Obviously the light is different (more grey and subtle) and I’ve been taking more middle-of-the-day photos rather than sunrises and sunsets. I’ve kept closer to home and have taken far more St Ives photos and fewer beach photos. W ha t ’s th e m os t int e re st ing t hing y ou ha ve e ve r p hotograph ed? Most probably a wombat on a recent trip to Tasmania. They look so slow and sluggish but can move at the speed of light! In February we went on a 25th anniversary trip to Tasmania, most particularly Cradle Mountain. I loved photographing wombats in their native environment at sunset - that national park is so absolutely amazing. What’s the grand plan when it comes to your photography; what does the future look like? I would love to grow my social media following with followers who are interested in seeing beautiful places. My dream would be

to travel to beautiful places to promote and to photograph them and have all my expenses paid! On a local level, I’d love to encourage, through my photos, more people getting out to experience nature - it is so good for both our physical and mental health. It would be great if social media (and photos) encourage well-being and experiences to a greater extent, and less about wanting “things”. What are your top 3 tips for budding nature photographers? 1) Angle - take your photos from different heights: squat low for example to get reflections in the puddles, or reach up high to get a wider view. 2) Solo - sometimes you need to be alone for the best photos; you might need to take multiple images just to get the right one. 2) Don’t zoom in – instead, take your picture and crop what you need out – or get up close to take better quality images. 3) Conducive Light - the middle of the day tends to have to brightest light, which is too strong for good photos. Try the hour or two around sunrise and sunset.

DALRYMPLE-HAY Nature Reserve is featured as one of Kuring-gai Council’s prime nature walks, and on National Parks and Wildlife’s (NPWS) discovery program. The towering arboreal canopy of blue gum high forest, dominated by blackbutt (Eucalyptus pilularis) and turpentine, with its dense mid-storey of shrubbery and understorey of native ferns, provides a safe habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna - popular with bushwalkers and wildlife watchers. Blue gum high forest is a distinct community of trees, orchids, grasses, shrubs and assorted ground-covering flora that is unique to the Sydney region and not found elsewhere in Australia. Socalled ‘high’ because of the sky-conquering canopy its tall trees create, providing food and shelter for a diverse range of airborne and ground-dwelling native animals and insects. ENDANGERED Several species of eucalyptus trees are known as ‘blue’ gums, one of which, Eucalyptus saligna, the Sydney blue gum, is typically the main component of blue gum high forests, and they live for over 200 years. Blue gum high forest is endangered and found in limited pockets across the northern suburbs of Sydney, including Kuring-gai, Hornsby, Lane Cove, Willoughby, Baulkham Hills, Ryde and Parramatta, the largest of which is less than 20 hectares and all surrounded by urban development. Historically covering large areas of the shale-capped ridgetops of Sydney’s northern districts, less than 5 per cent of the estimated 3700 hectares of blue gum high forest that was prevalent throughout the Sydney basin, prior to Europeans’ arrival in 1788, is still standing. Of this, less than 1 per cent of the total area of blue gum forest is protected inside national parks. TIMBER! This reduction is because of the historic popularity of the tall, straight Sydney blue gum for timber production. Throughout the 1790s and well into the 1800s, the tallest trees, which can reach over 30 metres in height and 8 metres across their base, FLORA Around 180 native plants have been identified in DalrympleHay reserve, including shrubs like maytenus and hairy lolly bushes (aka downy chance); small trees like muttonwood and the parasitic native cherry tree; ferns like false bracken (aka rainbow fern); and large trees such as turpentine and several species of Eucalyptus ranging from the dominant blackbutt and Sydney blue gum to grey ironbarks and angophora (aka Sydney red gum), many of which are over 40 metres in height. were felled for houses, wharves, bridges, fence posts and rail and tram sleepers. The wood, which is hard, even-textured and easy to shape, was also highly prized for boatbuilding, wall panelling, flooring and furniture production because of its rich dark honey colouring. In St Ives, the 10.768-hectare Dalrymple-Hay Nature Reserve, incorporating neighbouring Browns Forest and bounded by Mona Vale and Rosedale roads, was declared a protected forest in Jan 1972. It was named after government surveyor Richard DalrympleHay, first Chief Forestry Commissioner for NSW. Dalrymple-Hay acquired the tract of land in the 1920s as a ‘demonstration forest’ after it was ignored by timber merchants. However, it wasn’t until the mid 1990s that Dalrymple-Hay and blue gum high forest in general was formally recognised as environmentally-threatened, thanks to intense lobbying by groups such as STEP (South Turramurra Environmental Protection). It was another decade, in 2005, before the Commonwealth Minister for Environment and Heritage listed blue gum high forest in the Sydney Basin as ‘Critically Endangered’ under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995.

Other tree dwellers include the possums: ringtails, brushtails and sugar gliders. Further down on the forest floor, elusive swamp wallabies have been spotted as well as the ubiquitous brush turkeys, which provide an essential service for blackbutt and blue gum seeds that need bare sunlit soil to germinate, by raking up leaf litter and exposing the earth.

On 18 September 2020 Ku-ring-gai Council announced on their webpage that “Barra Brui Sportsground in St Ives could be converted into a synthetic turf field for local hockey, with the community invited to give feedback on the proposal.”

T

THE proposal, which the council originally supported-in-principle in 2018, proposed to convert the grass recreation ground of Barra Brui Sportsground into an all-weather synthetic surfaced field capable of hosting a number of sports - primarily hockey - as well as upgrade the clubhouse and amenities building and provide additional car parking for up to 100 vehicles alongside. Ku-ring-gai Mayor Jennifer Anderson said “There’s no other comparable venue to play hockey in Ku-ring-gai and the sport is in danger of losing its youngest and best players to other sports without a new local facility.” However, objections were raised by opponents of the scheme, some of them local residents, anxious about an increase in noise and traffic. Environmentalists were also concerned about the impact upon endangered Sydney ironbark forest alongside. On 29 Jan 2021, in a social media post, Hockey NSW announced “NEW NORTHERN SYDNEY & BEACHES FIELD! Hockey NSW welcomes today’s funding announcement by the Hon. Jonathon O’Dea - Member for Davidson for a new $2.25 million hockey facility in St Ives. “The funding for improvements to existing facilities at Barra Brui Oval include the development of a synthetic wet-based hockey pitch, fencing, portable netting and goals, adjustable LED lighting, sheltered dug-outs, LED scoreboard and video recording area. However, on 16 March, a Petition Against the Proposed Hockey Facility Development at Barra Brui Oval comprising 2,588 sig-

Aboriginal rock carvings and cave paintings in Ku-ring-gai.

KU-RING-GAI Chase National Park includes more than 350 known Aboriginal sites of interest with an estimated 1110 engravings spread over 200 recorded carving sites – the largest concentration of known Aboriginal artwork in Sydney. Hundreds more Indigenous sites, from carved rocks to caves, where Aboriginal peoples communicated to each other with motifs and monograms over millennia, are spread across the adjoining national parks of Berowra Valley, Garigal and Lane Cove too. Most of these are accessible via designated bush trails and signposted. Historically, Aborigines communicated via rock carvings (petroglyphs), mundoes (carved footsteps indicating a spiritual path to follow, sometimes for initiation ceremonies), cave paintings and stencils. These used these to tell of prime fishing spots, indicate safe shelters, mark territorial boundaries, and advise of spiritual observances, amidst a range of cultural interactions and codes (many of which we may never know). However, although protected under the National Parks & Wildlife Act 1974, only a fraction of these remnants can still be viewed outside of museums. Tragically, many examples of rock art carvings that escaped the bulldozers and vandalism associated with suburban expansion are now eroding away under the weather. In Ku-ring-gai, few tribal custodians have been available to maintain them over the 230 years since Europeans arrived, something previously done for millennia. This is because, under Aboriginal law, only appointed people within a clan are permitted to maintain or restore the artwork of their people, and if there are no longer any surviving members, it is effectively sacrilegious for outsiders to interfere with it. The following Indigenous sites of special interest within Kuring-gai are among many that are accessible to the public along designated bush walking trails.. BOBBIN HEAD

Bobbin Head Track, 3.2km from Bobbin Head Road (signposted): some fading rock engravings, continue further for clearer carvings, including a greater glider, goanna, two birds, two emus, a wallaby (or perhaps a tiger quoll) and indistinct figures. Sphinx Walking Track: a large midden plus an overhang featuring 91 fading motifs. An engraving is also visible on the Bobbin Head Rd, 200m past the North Turramurra southern entry gate. Gibberagong Track: engravings of a human figure, small shield and a fish with axe-sharpening grooves. Bobbin Head Marina: on a vertical rock face in the marina carpark is an engraving of a fish, nearby is a 2 metre long iguana, the end of its tail curved around the rock. COTTAGE POINT Centre Trail: engravings of a large echidna, three figures and a small shield on a rock platform just off the path. Mundoes appear YOURNEIGHBOURHOODMEDIA

little further along the path at the lookout. Other multiple engraving sites around Cottage Point have faded to near-invisibility. DUFFYS FOREST Slade Lookout Track at the end: an engraving of an emu or waterfowl and a lizard beneath. Cowan Trail, Spirits Rock platform near the end: large engraving of Baiame (the principle creator of Earth who gave humans their laws, songs and culture) plus assorted fish, shields and a dozen human figures. NORTH WAHROONGA Cockle Creek, Spring Gully: 83 engraved figures across multiple locations, including human-like figures, an echidna, a stingray and 40 mundoes, plus a rock shelter with several red ochre handprints. ST IVES CHASE Warrimoo Walking Track: sandstone cave with 21 white ochre children and adult hand stencils, of which only 6 are still well defined. TERREY HILLS Bush track near Larool Rd: hunting scenes with kangaroos, human figures and footprints. Further on is a second series of rock platforms with a lyrebird, wallabies and a sugar glider. Nearby is a cave with rock art. WEST HEAD Off the West Head Road there are 17 numbered tracks, several of which feature prominent petroglyph carvings on sandstone rock plateaus. A daily entry fee for motorists is payable at the collection gate. Elvina Trail about 1/3 the way along West Head Rd on the right: one of Australia’s largest engraving sites, featuring Daramulan, the shape-shifting club-footed sky god, and his emu wife nearby, plus a large whale. America Bay Track: several engravings at one site including a large 5-metre-long orca, stingray, goanna and female figure. Basin Trail, signposted less than 100 metres from West Head Rd on a looped wooden walkway detour: multiple engravings including people, fish, symbols, boomerangs, a whale and jumping wallabies. Echidna site: between the Basin Track and Resolute Track and accessed only a few metres from West Head Road: a detailed engraving of an echidna, as well as various fish and a long series of mundoes. Resolute Track + Red Hands Trail (looped walk near the lookout end of West Head Rd): Red Hands Cave features red ochre hand stencils, believed painted between 500 and 1600 years ago. Resolute Track: engravings of a shark or whale, a man and two eels. Second unmarked site 80m down the track features engravings of a shark, fish and some eels.

HEALTH HAIR HOUSE 123

H

Debbie Lewy is owner and operator of Hair House 123, an exclusive boutique-style home salon offering an intimate and personalised experience at an affordable price.

HOW long have you lived in St Ives? I’ve lived here on and off since I was 15. What streets have you lived in? Pentecost Ave and Hillside Ave. Did you go to school in St Ives? Yes, Masada College. Do you have any hilarious stories around muck-up days or anything like that? Too many stories to come up with just one! What motivated you to start a home-salon and how have you found success since you launched? I started a home salon as I wanted a more personal experience for every client, which I found I was not always able to do within the shopping centre salons. It’s much more peaceful and each client gets my whole attention. I found this to be a major point for a successful business.

It’s also been great having a salon at home as I’ve been able to be at all my kids’ schooling events over the years. What’s your OLDEST memory of St Ives? My oldest memory of St Ives would have to be my favourite people at the local corner shop on Warrimoo Rd. Maggie and Michael have been serving myself, and now my kiddies, for many, many years, always with a smile on their faces. If you could change one thing, what would it be? If I could change one thing it would probably be all the unnecessary developments. It’s sad to see all the horse paddocks around St Ives turn into big concrete jungles. St Ives is a beautiful leafy suburb, which I’m sure most of the locals would prefer that it stay that way.

to all the parents of school aged kids that have made it this far!). We’ve pulled together some tips and tricks to help you bring some calm into your lives.

SCENT

PLUSH Bathrobe - Who said you need a 5 star hotel to relax in a schmick robe? Nobody. Once the day’s zoom meetings are over, pretend you’re living in a fancy hotel and throw this super cosy robe. Pro-tip: throw into the dryer 5 minutes before wearing to experience extreme levels of comfort.

Did you know - once a scent is detected it takes a direct route to the limbic system, which is the part of the brain related to emotion and memory? Not only can scents evoke memories, they can cause a physical response - helping you relax, calm symptoms of cold/flu, soothe indigestion and even induce sleep. - Helps to induce sleep & promote healthy sleeping patterns.

Bed, Bath and Table - Shop 19 at St Ives Village - RRP $52.45 Waffle Slippers - Complete the look with a pair of BLISS Waffle Slippers Now on sale - RRP $11.25 - Relieves symptoms of stress & mild anxiety; acting as nervous system relaxant.

- Decreases the impact of migraines/ headaches & mild aches and pains.

This diffuser comes highly recommended! It dispels a super fine mist, which not only fills spaces with the scent of your choice, it adds moisture to the air, helping with skin hydration. Aromatherapy Diffuser - RRP $79.95 (available at palmbeachcollection.com.au)

FEEL Let’s face it - as nice as it would be, none of us have time to get a massage every evening after a long day. But we’ve found some other ways you can bring the comfort of a spa day into your own living room. Beuerer Massage Foot Warmer - I BET you didn’t know this thing existed under $100 and you can keep your toes toasty, whilst enjoying a never ending footrub! Available at The Good Guys - RRP $85

MIND

Recent studies have shown that mindfulness is one of the strongest ways to overcome any stress or anxiety you may be facing in your life. Whilst some find mediation and mindfulness a walk in the park (literally!), others don’t!

Meditation 101 Remember, practice makes perfect but here’s a simple 2 minute routine to get started. It could be introduced to your morning routine, before dinner - but consistency is key: Prepare to sit still for a few minutes, sit wherever is comfortable! Close your eyes and focus on your breath for 2 minutes. depth/shallowness, how it impacts your ribs/stomach/body. If your mind wanders - bring your focus back to your breathing. HOME REAL ESTATE

UPDATE By Josh Luschwitz

T

What Buyers are looking for in the current environment.

THE way we use and view our homes changed, possibly forever, last March when Sydney went into lockdown. Suddenly people have needed their home to function as a home office for remote working, a classroom for remote learning and a resort for holidaying at home. Spare rooms have been cleaned out and re-purposed, backyards had kids running around in them every day and those with high speed internet, air-conditioning or solar power appreciated these additions more than ever. And even as the pandemic restrictions are easing in Sydney, many of these lifestyle changes have lingered and have had a noticeable impact on what many buyers and tenants are seeking when it comes to finding a new home. These are some key features that I feel will make your home more desirable in the current climate: Home Offices Dedicated work spaces are highly sought after. If you don’t already have a dedicated study consider repurposing an unused room or installing custom joinery into the corner of a living space to make it more a multipurpose space. Properties with a floor plan that can comfortably accommodate working-from-home parents and studying children without compromising family living provide the ultimate flexibility and are more sought after than ever. Cabana & Pool Houses In the past, cabanas and pools houses were often underutilised, especially during the colder months, but now they can be a much needed extra living/study/retreat space with families all at home together. With travel restrictions continuing to limit and disrupt holiday plans, having a cabana or pool house can allow you to entertain and relax or just get some much-needed separation between kids and parents and make a ‘holiday at home’ just as satisfying. In some cases, adding a cabana can be a simpler and less expensive exercise than adding a room to your existing home.

14

Connectivity and Creature Comforts Looking beyond the space a home has to offer, there are smaller improvements that can still give a home extra appeal to today’s potential buyers and tenants. Remote working, home schooling and Netflix binges are putting an unprecedented pressure on home internet connections and having a reliable, high speed service, such as fibre, to the premises, has become a highly desirable feature that you can add to your property. To remain comfortable whilst using your ultra-fast internet you may also want to install air conditioning or heating - another inclusion that has become increasingly sought after as people spend more time at home. Solar Power One of the downsides of these creature comforts is the power they consume. Solar panels and battery systems have become even more valuable as electricity consumption increases, especially during day time hours. We are fortunate in Ku-ring-gai to often enjoy larger than average block sizes, great public facilities and some beautiful natural surrounds, which have all contributed to make the area even more appealing compared to more heavily developed areas of Sydney. If you are interested in how the value of your home has fared in the current market or how you can further improve your property’s worth please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

KIDS WHAT DOES GIFTED EDUCATION LOOK LIKE AT CORPUS CHRISTI?

A

Helping gifted students get nore from their education. AT CORPUS CHRISTI Primary School in St Ives we are passionate about providing for the diverse learning needs of all our students. Our Gifted and Talented program (ASPIRE) is one feature of our school’s differentiation practices. Our ASPIRE program was launched in 2019. ASPIRE stands for Achieving Specific Personal Inspiration with Real Enrichment. While ASPIRE is a gifted program, it is available for all students across the school and not limited to a select few. Our program seeks to identify high potential and gifted students in a variety of learning areas. Students are identified and assessed using reliable and valid tools, then offered enrichment programs and opportunities in all classes across the school. In addition, we have numerous extension programs related to specific learning needs. We engage mentors in our community and beyond to work with groups of students in Mathematics, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics grouped disciplines), Visual Arts and Digital Technologies. Our STEM Lab provides space and easy access to a host of new 21st Century resources. This flexible learning space is utilised by all students. Our STEM lunch club is very popular. So far, our students have worked with an astrophysicist, a professor from Sydney University in Civil Engineering, experts in visual arts, STEM and Mathematics. Children have used AutoCAD to

design an object that they bring to life using a 3D printer. One of our parents who works with drones has shared his expertise and knowledge with our students. Currently some of our students in Year Three and Year Five are participating in an extension writing program. Next term we look forward to welcoming Young Engineers to our school to work with students in Years One and Two in Robotics. Progress and achievement is tracked throughout our students’ primary school years. Corpus Christi works closely with local St Ives resident Mrs Di Barnes. Di is an educational consultant who is passionate about curriculum differentiation and identification for gifted students. She has a wealth of experience in Gifted and Talented Education at both school and department levels. By the end of 2021 all staff will be trained in Gifted Education through the University of New South Wales.

Photos Sphinx Memorial, by Alec Smart

Pack the car kids, we’re going to see a Sphinx! LOOKING for a place to get your kids excited about history while enjoying a family outing? Then why don’t you check out the Sphinx in Turramurra? This mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human, is the centrepiece of a secluded war memorial near the southern entrance to Bobbin Head, at the edge of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park in North Turramurra. Although debate surrounds the origins and inspiration for the celebrated Great Sphinx of Giza (probably the little-known Pharoah Khafre) the North Turramurra Sphinx was chipped out of the surrounding sandstone by former stonemason and retired WWI soldier Private William Shirley, who at the time was convalescing at the nearby Lady Davidson Private Hospital. Time has eroded the soft sandstone of the Turramurra Sphinx,

and part of its headdress has detached. Like the Great Sphinx of Giza, it too is missing a nose, but this won’t detract from the fun to be had for all on this family adventure.

It’s a little-known fact that nestled in the southern corner of St Ives is 8 acres of land that has seemingly been untouched by time! MIMICKING the orchards and rural properties from the 1960’s, Rosedale Farm is still home to over 8 horses, including 2 miniponies, some chickens and a couple of beehives. We spoke with Mike and Jenny, who have had the property in their family since 1977, when it was all rolling green hills (and a stark lack of pesky privet trees!). It’s believed that previously, the Victa Lawn Mowers family owned the property - and prior to them, the family behind Farley & Lewers pink cement trucks. The property has been used for horse agistment since before the current owners purchased the land. Jenny, previously living in a house on the far side of the property, fondly remembers the days she could wander out her back door and see her pony, Milly, in the stable adjacent to the backyard - what a dream! Unfortunately, due to land-tax impositions, Mike and Jenny have been forced to sell the land for development. However, they are fully committed to ensuring the outcome of this little slice of paradise will be something that the local community are proud of, and something that continues to support the local environment.

Farm Produce is Available! We now offer for sale: honey, horse manure and free-range eggs (depending on availability). Call or text John 0450 235 015 for more details. 20

DEXTER Despite being a thoroughbred, Dexter was never built for the racing life. He was originally bred and even sold for $25,0000 to race - but his awkward gait and kind demeanour did not make him a very fierce competitor. Dex now spends his days grazing in his paddock, playing with his brother Atlas, and wandering around St Ives (where he is usually on his best behaviour!).

ATLAS AND FRIENDS

Despite few people knowing the full size of the property, there is a road-side fence that seems to be growing in popularity week to week. Behind it, Atlas, a 16.3-hands Bay Warmblood horse, has managed to make an extensive group of friends from his paddock! Often, you can see groups of kids/parents/dog walkers dropping in to give Atlas a pat, and of course, some of his favourite food - carrots. Atlas was purchased by our founder, Georgie, in 2018. He was extremely emaciated, covered in scars and aggressive in behaviour. Through a careful, 4-year-long rehabilitation program - and the kindness of all his friends in St Ives - he is now a big, beautiful, happy boy who is about to start his career in dressage!
