INSURE BEAUTY HAIR EXTENSIONS & BEAUTY BOUTIQUE
BY MALLORY HARDGROVE PHOTOS COURTESY OF MARIE WILLIAMS
At Insure Beauty Hair Extensions & Beauty Boutique, owner Marie Williams has created more than just a salon--she’s built a sanctuary where confidence flourishes and community thrives. This full-service beauty brand offers premium hair extension services, braiding, styling, and personalized beauty care—all delivered with the warmth and professionalism that has become Williams’ signature, whether in the comfort of the client’s home or at their salon suite located downtown Fredericksburg.
“Insure Beauty was born out of a deep love for hair care, creativity, and community,” Williams explains. What started as a passion project has evolved into a successful business, offering exceptional beauty services and supporting the growth of emerging stylists through handson education and professional development. The salon’s commitment to excellence extends beyond individual appointments to encompass a broader mission of empowerment and community building.

Central to Williams’ approach is a philosophy that resonates throughout every service: “Confidence is contagious. We believe when people feel beautiful, they show up differently in life, in relationships, and business.”
This belief shapes every interaction at Insure Beauty, where clients receive not just technical expertise but an elevated experience designed to enhance their natural glow and inner strength. Williams draws her greatest inspiration from her diverse clientele.
“Our biggest inspiration comes from our clients—the everyday women balancing careers, families, and personal growth,” she shares. “We’re honored to be part of their self-care journey.” This connection with clients drives the salon’s mission and creates the authentic relationships that form the foundation of the business.
The atmosphere at Insure Beauty reflects Williams’ commitment to creating genuine connections. “We love music and real talk! A good playlist and authentic conversation keep the vibes high, especially during those long braid sessions,” she notes. This approach has proven so effective that one client was so impressed by the salon’s energy that she requested an internship opportunity, demonstrating how “connection is the real service we offer.”
Williams’ vision for Insure Beauty encompasses both professional excellence and personal empowerment. “The most rewarding part of the work is seeing someone leave the chair not just looking good, but feeling empowered,” she explains. This dual focus on technical skill and emotional uplift has established the salon as a trusted destination for protective styling and extension services.
Looking forward, Williams continues to expand her reach while maintaining the personal touch that defines Insure Beauty. Clients can book consultations online at insure-beauty.com or connect via social media by following @insure.beauty. Whether serving longtime clients or welcoming newcomers, Williams remains committed to her core message: “Whether you’re a client, a stylist, or simply walking by, we believe you deserve to feel seen, supported, and celebrated.”

The D’Alessandro Family
Overcoming Obstacles & Seizing Opportunities
BY MALLORY HARDGROVE

The legendary basketball coach and teacher John Wooden once said, “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” This quote encapsulates the essence of Diana D’Alessandro’s journey, who turned an initial setback into the foundation for an extraordinary legal career. This resilience and determination have not only built her thriving solo practice but also her community here in Fredericksburg.
The D’Alessandro family—Diana, 40, Jon, 41, and their sons Jordan, 9, and Dylan, 5—moved to Fredericksburg from Fairfax in 2021, seeking something that had been missing from their Northern Virginia life. “I enjoy the smalltown feel and sense of community—two things I never felt living in Fairfax County,” Diana explains. “The people are noticeably different here—in the best ways possible.”
Diana and Jon’s story began when they were neighbors during Diana’s sophomore year at Virginia Tech. “We met when I was 19, and he was 20—both of us attending school at Virginia Tech,” Diana recalls. What started as a college friendship has grown into a partnership that spans careers, parenthood, and now their shared commitment to their new community.
Jon initially planned to become a medical doctor, majoring in biology, but his heart led him in a different direction. After two years, he

decided to double-major in biology and biosystems engineering, graduating in 2008. His childhood summers at Lake Anna had sparked a love for water that would define his career path. Today, he’s a licensed professional engineer with Kimley Horn, building their Virginia-wide stormwater practice as an expert in water resources engineering, stormwater management, and flood resilience.
Diana’s journey to becoming a lawyer is a testament to perseverance in the face of adversity. Although she knew from a young age that she wanted to practice law, it was no easy feat. “I am admittedly a poor standardized test taker,” she says, which became a challenge when she sat for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
Diana was rejected from her top-choice law schools, but earned acceptance to a night program at Duquesne University’s School of Law. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, she packed her bags and set out for Pittsburgh, determined to prove herself.
“I knew I had to work harder to prove that, despite my LSAT score, I was capable of excelling,” she says. And “excel” she did. Working relentlessly, she finished her first year at Duquesne ranked 6 out of 84 students, earning several awards for her legal writing, research, and oral advocacy. This academic excellence proved to be more than enough for the University of Richmond to accept her into their fulltime program the following year, where she graduated with her Juris Doctor in 2010.
Diana’s achievements continued to build from there. She earned a prestigious judicial clerkship with the Honorable David S. Schell
of the Fairfax Circuit Court—a coveted position granted to only 15 recent law graduates. She then spent nearly nine years at a boutique law firm in Tysons Corner, advancing from associate to partner and earning accolades for her outstanding work as a top attorney in her practice areas. In 2019, she was named an “Up & Coming Lawyer” by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, recognizing lawyers making an impact across the Commonwealth.
When the family decided to move to Fredericksburg in 2021, Diana discovered an underserved market and saw another opportunity. “When I began searching for attorney positions in the area, I realized that there are not many lawyers who specialize in my practice areas,” she says. “I thought, well, if they can do it, maybe I can too.” Her instinct proved correct—since accepting her first client in July 2021, her practice has grown at a rapid pace, helping hundreds of clients each year in litigation, estate planning, estate administration, and transactional real estate.
The D’Alessandro boys have inherited their parents’ passion and determination. Jordan, 9, is a sports enthusiast who “loves soccer, basketball, and football” and is “an avid football-card collector” who can tell you “anything and everything you would ever want to know about football.” His favorite team is the Miami Dolphins—not for any family connection, but because it was the first team he learned about, and he thought dolphins were “cool.”
Dylan, 5, is following in his brother’s athletic footsteps, having just completed his first season of tee ball and looking forward to starting

soccer in the fall. He’s equally excited about starting kindergarten at the same school as Jordan.
The D’Alessandro family has fully embraced Fredericksburg’s community spirit in multiple ways. Diana volunteers regularly at her sons’ elementary school and will join the PTA board in the fall. Jon coaches soccer for Spotsylvania County Parks & Recreation, working with Jordan’s team and preparing to coach Dylan’s team as well.
Their weekends often find them in downtown Fredericksburg, where Diana and Jon enjoy coffee at Anita’s Cafe or wine at Curio. But their most frequent destination is The Card Cellar, where Jon experiences a full-circle moment. “It is a full circle moment for my hus -

band, who would visit The Card Cellar at its previous location when he was our older son’s age,” Diana notes.
The D’Alessandro family’s creative side is evident in their personal interests. Diana, in particular, is a talented baker. When friends and family learned she was opening her own business, many assumed it would be a bakery rather than a law practice. She recently organized a neighborhood bake sale for her son and his friends, contributing dozens of decorated cookies and treats. “It was not your average bake sale, and it was a big hit!” she says.
The D’Alessandro household is bustling with activity, thanks to their expanding pet family. Two rescued cats, Lovey and Meridian, were adopted through the Squishy Face Crew

rescue organization. A year ago, they added Labrador retriever puppies Biscuit and Zoe, siblings who have brought yet “another layer of love and craziness” to the family.
As the D’Alessandro family settles deeper into Fredericksburg life, they’re building the kind of community connections that initially drew them to the area. From Jon’s hometown roots to Diana’s growing legal practice, from youth sports coaching to school volunteering, they’re creating the small-town experience they sought when they left Northern Virginia.
“I have no regrets about moving here,” Diana shares, a sentiment that not only summarizes their successful transition but also their commitment to “making the best” out of every opportunity for them here in Fredericksburg.

NK FLOORS: THE BENEFITS OF A FLOORING STORE OFFERING PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION
BY KARIE OWENS PHOTOS COURTESY OF NK FLOORS

Are you a homeowner shopping for new flooring? Your focus may be on materials, colors, and pricing. Installation is often a key factor overlooked in the process. Flooring selection centers that offer professional installation services provide consumers with unparalleled advantages over stores that sell only products. Here's why:
Quality and Precision
With in-house, certified installers, a flooring store can maintain high-quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction. Professional installers are trained and experienced in handling a wide range of flooring materials, including hardwood, vinyl, laminate, tile, and carpet. Their knowledge ensures that the flooring is installed correctly the first time. Proper installation maximizes the floor's lifespan and maintains manufacturer warranties, which can be voided by improper installation. Flooring installation certification is essential. Certified installers undergo formal training and assessment through educational organizations such as Certified Flooring Installers and Advanced Flooring Technologies, ensuring they meet industry standards for proper installation procedures. Compliance with proven industry standards gives customers peace of mind. Certified installers often maintain their credentials through ongoing education, which keeps them informed about the latest materials, techniques, and installation technologies.
Seamless Project Management
A more streamlined process is experienced when a flooring store manages the product and the installation. In-house installers are part of the store's team; therefore, communication is clear between the sales, management, operations, and installation departments. The store takes full accountability for the entire process, from selection to completion, resulting in fewer delays and a smoother workflow. Should issues arise post-installation, you have a clear point of contact for support or repairs.
Superior Results and Customer Satisfaction
Professional installation ensures a high-quality finish, meticulous attention to detail, and an outstanding customer experience. The value of professional installation speaks for itself in enhancing your home's overall appearance and feel, increasing comfort, and improving its value.
Trish Hall, Marketing Consultant, boasts of this type of experience with NK Floors, "NK Floors recently replaced my old vinyl in my foyer with hardwood, and they refinished my wood stairs and landings. They did a beautiful job and were great in working with me to schedule and answer my questions. The end result is beautiful, and I plan to have them back to do my kitchen and bedroom floors too."
Collin V. shared his experience, "We used NK Floors for the first time and were amazed at the quality of the product and level of service. They made us feel like a part of their NK Floors family, and the finished product was breathtaking. We could not be happier with our decision to use NK Floors and highly recommend them for all your flooring and tile needs!"
If you are a homeowner in the market for new floors, don't overlook the importance of professional installation. Get the results that you deserve and others boast of. Ensure the job is done right and enhance the long-term value of your new floors.

TAKING CENTER STAGE IN FREDERICKSBURG: SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON LUMINARY THEATRE COMPANY

When Cheryl Lane was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, it became a turning point that would eventually lead her to create something extraordinary for the Fredericksburg community. Since then, she has "spent a lot of time making sure I am doing things I am passionate about and that I love." That passion materialized into Luminary Theatre Company, a professional theatre organization she founded last September after conceiving the idea in March 2024.
Lane, who serves as Founder and Executive Director, brings a unique blend of artistic vision and community care to her work. A Registered Nurse by profession, she has been involved in theatre since childhood, balancing family life with her work in the professional theatre world. "This theatre company is a labor of love and a desire to create the kind of place I want to work," she explains.
Luminary Theatre Company is dedicated to creating immersive, innovative theatre experiences that are accessible to the entire community. The organization's mission extends beyond entertainment, focusing on providing a home for local artists while offering high-quality, affordable theatre and theatre education for both professionals and young people. Most importantly, they are committed to investing in and being part of their community.
The philosophy driving Luminary is simple: "Our philosophy is that everyone should have access to high-quality theatre experiences, on or off stage," Lane states. "Art can reflect, enrich, and bring together communities in ways that nothing else can. We believe art is essential to healthy communities, and that the best art is made when artists feel seen, safe, and supported."
What truly energizes Lane in her work is witnessing the transformative power of artists who are supported. "My inspiration is the artists we work
with. I love seeing someone who is supported and empowered creating theatre that is impactful and beautiful," she shares. She also finds joy in reaching unexpected audiences, explaining, "I also love when we bring theatre out from behind the theatre walls and reach someone who wouldn't have otherwise been impacted."
The company's impact is already being felt in the community through various partnerships and initiatives. One notable collaboration is with the Spotsylvania Parks and Recreation Department, which offers accessible theatre experiences and educational programs for children. "It's one of those things that highlights how we impact the community and live out our mission," Lane notes.
Luminary also supports emerging talent through their Spotlight series, which brings new works to the stage for writers and composers. They prioritize hiring locally and supporting early career professionals both on and off stage. Their interns even receive opportunities to shadow professionals in Washington, D.C., as part of their experience.
Lane has an essential message for the community: "I want our community to know that theatre is for everyone. We want you to come enjoy the stories of our community in new and innovative ways, and to feel the joy and excitement that theatre can offer." She also extends an invitation to local businesses, emphasizing their desire to "work with you to bring new experiences to your customers and forge partnerships that enrich us all."
The company has exciting events on the horizon. A meet-and-greet is scheduled for August 23 at The Bourbon Bar at Ironclad Inn, one of their early partners. This event will offer community members the opportunity to learn about Luminary, featuring potential performances and an exciting community partnership announcement.

The main attraction will be their first mainstage production, "A Christmas Carol, or the Marvelous Reclamation of Ebenezer Scrooge," running from December 12 to 28th at the Fredericksburg Agricultural Fairgrounds. Tickets become available August 15. This isn't your traditional Christmas Carol--it's a modern adaptation set in present-day Fredericksburg, featuring original music, movement, and puppetry. As described on their website, it's "a celebration of love, memory, and the power of community" that tells "a story of joy reclaimed, of one man's journey back to the light, and the people who help him find it."
This dream and journey of Lane’s would not have been possible without a little help: "I want to give credit to my friend and creative partner, Wilson Pezzuto," Lane says. "Wilson is a crazy gifted composer, writer, and director who also happens to sing and act. When we met he was working in the DC market a lot and was getting ready to make the move up there. I started sharing my vision for Luminary with him, and he ultimately decided to put DC on hold and stay and build something here with me."
Pezzuto is Artistic Director of Luminary, and the composer for its first stage show. "We share the same vision for Luminary and passion for community," Lane exclaims. "I’m so glad to have him as my partner and could not do any of this without him."
While their first mainstage show is still ahead, Lane is optimistic about their trajectory. Their smaller performances have already sold out, and she hopes "that trend continues."
Through Luminary Theatre Company, Cheryl Lane and her team are creating more than entertainment--they’re building a cultural cornerstone that enriches the entire Fredericksburg community, one performance at a time.
Stay in the loop! Check out luminarytheatreco.org or follow @luminarytheatre on Instagram or Luminary Theatre Company on Facebook to learn about upcoming events and how to get involved.

SENIOR YEAR SURVIVAL TIPS (FROM SOMEONE WHO JUST SURVIVED IT)
BY JULIA PESNELL

Julia Pesnell is a recent graduate of Riverbend High School. She was also a student of the Commonwealth Governor’s School and served as the Riverbend Junior Class President. Julia also ran cross country and track for the Riverbend High School team. She held the position of committee executive for the Spanish Honor Society and was a class representative for their chapter of HOSA. Beyond her leadership roles, Julia was a member of the National English Honor Society and remains actively involved in community service.

Having just completed my senior year, I know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel. Between keeping up with school, taking the next steps for your future, and juggling any additional extracurricular activities, it is a year that surely will flash by in a blur. With all of its moving parts, it is undoubtedly a phase of life that only seems more easily navigable in hindsight. To help alleviate some stress for the class of 2026, I will share some tips that helped me throughout my senior year.
Start your personal essay now!
One of the hardest parts of senior year is writing your personal essay for college applications. While most college applications aren’t due until later in the fall, beginning to work on your essay sooner rather than later is incredibly important. Even if you don’t feel confident, just write! Then, by allowing yourself plenty of time, you can have time to go back, re-read, reflect, and edit. The most important thing is to convey YOUR writer’s voice through your piece, and allowing yourself plenty of time to make changes will ensure that your voice is accentuated.
Also, remember that you are always going to be your harshest critic. So, in times of doubt, get a friend, parent, or teacher to read it over to give you some advice and encouragement.
Scholarships
While applying for scholarships may seem daunting on top of all the other demands of senior year, learning to sift through scholarships and reuse essays efficiently can be very helpful. Sign up for scholarship newsletters and create an account on scholarship sites right away. This will allow you to receive emails almost daily with a scholarship digest suggested for you. Two scholarship sites I found valuable were Fastweb and Going Merry.

© Best Version Media
Additionally, while applying for the big-name, no-essay scholarships is quick, you want to be sure that those aren’t all the scholarship steps you take. Applying to major-specific scholarships and scholarships awarded by local businesses can significantly increase your chances of being selected as the winner, as they are much less competitive.
Keep an agenda
Senior year is busy and not just with school. Trying to memorize your schedule just adds another dose of stress onto your plate, so I suggest using an agenda. You can easily write down classwork due dates, exam dates, sporting events, honor society meetings, and anything else you may be involved with. Writing it down on a calendar is especially helpful, as it allows for a visual representation of events that may overlap or weeks that will be busier than usual.
Make to-do lists

While this may not be for everyone, it helped me avoid distractions during times I had allotted for work. For example, if you know you have a study hall or an hour between school and sports practice, write down everything that you need to get done, in the order you need to do it. This avoids the temptation of reaching for your phone or talking to friends when you’re done with one task, as you can immediately see what needs to be done next. And of course, who doesn’t love the gratification of crossing tasks off your to-do list?
Finally, as my high school career comes to a close, so does my time writing for Neighbors of Chancellorsville. Having the opportunity to write under some incredible people as an intern has been a pleasure. It has truly granted me the ability to grow in my writing and communication skills—something for which I’ll forever be grateful.

RIVERBEND FBLA TAKES ON ANAHEIM
BY JULIA PESNELL PHOTOS COURTESY OF DANIEL BOLAS
This summer, a group of Riverbend students travelled to Anaheim, California to compete in the 2025 FBLA National Leadership Conference. FBLA, or Future Business Leaders of America, is a student organization focused on career preparation and the development of leaders in the business field.
Two incredibly intelligent and future-minded students, Daniel Bolas and Laila Henley, have both had impressive experiences throughout their time involved in FBLA. Bolas was involved in FBLA for all four years of high school, serving as a state officer for three years and working his way up to serve as state president in his senior year. Now, having just graduated, he plans to attend Virginia Tech to major in Business Information Technology with a focus on operations and supply chain management, to pursue a career in logistics. Bolas says, "FBLA guided me towards the business track and gave me opportunities to test different fields in the business world to find things I was and wasn't interested in."

Henley, a rising senior, plans to continue her involvement and growth in FBLA, commenting on how her involvement has already shaped her mindset and desire for a future career. Henley says, "The more I competed and connected with members from across the country, the more I realized I wanted a career that lets me build relationships, promote equity, and solve global problems through business."
Both students have incredible accolades under their belt from Bolas, who placed first at this year's State Leadership conference in the category of future business leaders, to Henley, who had placed first in her respective categories at both the regional and state levels. Henley adds, "These early wins really gave me the confidence to push myself further and take on more advanced events."
Beyond the accolades, FBLA is about much more. It's about building a community, which is strongly highlighted on these trips. Henley sums up this sentiment

perfectly as she says, "My favorite part was definitely the Angels game and exploring California with some of my favorite people. Those moments reminded me how FBLA is just as much about friendships and memories as it is about leadership and competition." Bolas adds to this, saying, "I also enjoy getting to meet like-minded people from across the nation. One of my best friends is someone I met through FBLA, and he's from Kansas."
In addition to all of this, FBLA is a significant confidence booster for many students, helping them become more confident in their skills. Henley says, "These events allowed me to grow both as a speaker and a future business leader." Additionally, on her personal experience in FBLA, Henley continues, "I wouldn't be where I am without my advisor, Mrs. Hogan. She believed in me from the beginning and always pushed me to go further, even when I doubted myself. Her support has meant everything to me and helped me grow into the leader I am today."
In the end, Bolas comments on how he has gained many skills from his involvement in FBLA, as he describes one, saying, "...my ability to network and connect with others. Before joining FBLA, I knew its importance but never wrapped my head around the difficulty of building a lasting connection in just minutes."
To conclude, Henley says, "The most valuable trait I've gained is understanding that leadership isn't about improving yourself, it's about empowering others to lead. I've learned how to lift others up, build a team, and create impact beyond myself."

CLEAR THE SHELTERS, FILL YOUR HEART
BY DR. KATRINA SPIES, DVM, CHPV, CCRV, CVA, CVPP

If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, August is the perfect time. Clear the Shelters Month is a nationwide campaign focused on reducing shelter overcrowding and helping animals find loving homes.
Adoption is incredibly rewarding—but also a lifelong responsibility. As a veterinarian, I encourage families to approach adoption thoughtfully. I’ve seen the joy that comes from a great match—and the challenges that arise when a pet isn’t the right fit. Here’s what to consider if you're considering adopting a new pet.
Why Adopt Instead of Shop?
Shelters are full of healthy, friendly pets of all breeds, ages, and sizes—many surrendered through no fault of their own. Adopting gives these animals a second chance and helps reduce the demand for puppy mills and backyard breeders.
Many shelter pets come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and behavior-assessed, which can make the transition easier and more affordable.
Before You Adopt: Are You Ready?
Bringing home a pet means committing to their care for life—often 10–15 years for dogs and 20+ for cats. It’s essential to consider how a new pet will fit into your life—not just today, but for years to come. Consider:
• Do I have time for daily walks, training, play, and grooming?
• Can I afford food, supplies, training, grooming, and veterinary care—including emergencies?
• Do I travel often, and who will care for my pet while I’m away?
• Will a pet fit in with young children or existing animals?
Being realistic now helps ensure a successful match and a happy future for you and your pet.
Choosing the Right Pet for Your Home
Every pet has unique needs based on age, breed, temperament, and health. Don’t choose based on a cute photo—consider your lifestyle, space, and activity level:
• Live in a small home? A calm adult cat or senior dog may be ideal.
• Gone most of the day? Cats are more independent than dogs.
• High-energy breeds need daily exercise and mental stimulation.
• Already have pets? Ask about meet-andgreets or foster-to-adopt options.
Shelter staff are your best allies—they know the animals and can help find your best match.
After You Adopt: What’s Next?
Prepare your home:
• Set up a crate or quiet room as a safe space and introduce family members and pets slowly.
• Pet-proof your space—remove toxic plants, secure cords, and store medications safely.
• Fence your yard if needed.
Schedule a vet visit within a few days for a health check and to set up preventive care and spay/neuter if not already performed. Get pet insurance. Emergencies happen—insurance can help you afford unexpected veterinary costs.
Use the 3-3-3 Rule to guide your pet’s transition:
• First 3 Days: Offer a quiet, safe space and keep interactions calm and low-key.
• After 3 Weeks: Routines start to sink in. Slowly introduce new people, pets, and training using positive reinforcement.
• After 3 Months: Your pet begins to feel truly at home. Relationships deepen, and their true personality shines.
Not Ready to Adopt? You Can Still Help!
• Contribute: Supplies and food are always needed—many shelters have Amazon or Chewy wish lists.
• Volunteer: Walk dogs, clean, photograph adoptable pets, or help at events.
• Foster: Give a temporary home to an animal in need.
• Spread the word: Share adoptable pets on social media, attend adoption events, and encourage others to adopt.
Adopting a pet changes lives—both theirs and yours. Whether you welcome a new companion or support your local shelter in other ways, every act of kindness makes a difference.

LOCAL AUTHOR BRINGS FORGOTTEN WOMEN'S STORIES TO LIGHT
BY MALLORY HARDGROVE PHOTOS COURTESY OF SARAH DYE
Sarah Dye has spent the last decade uncovering the hidden stories that shaped Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County, with a particular passion for illuminating the lives of women whose contributions have been lost to time. Her latest work, To Give and To Gain: The Women of Todd's Tavern Sewing Circle, sheds light on an incredible tale of community leadership that deserves recognition. The book chronicles the extraordinary story of a group of rural women in 1930s Spotsylvania who formed what appeared to be a simple sewing circle but evolved into something far more significant. These women not only created a social and charitable organization but also went on to purchase and operate the Todd's Tavern Community Center for four decades, serving both their local
community and their country during World War II.
"It's a story that has been lost in time," Dye explains. The inspiration came through a personal connection—friends Wade Haney and his sister, Barbara Faulconer, shared memories of their mother, one of the founding members. This blend of firsthand accounts and extensive research allowed Dye to paint a comprehensive picture of these remarkable women and their impact during a pivotal period in American history that resonates with readers.
Living in the Fredericksburg area has profoundly shaped Dye's work as a historian and writer. Having called the region home for most of her life, she has easy access to courthouse deed books, library research rooms, and the actual locations where history unfolded.
Dye's approach to historical writing is deeply rooted in authenticity. She seeks out original books from the time periods she researches, preferring to read accounts from those who ac -
tually lived through the events. "I want to read the accounts of those who lived it and understand the true political, social, and cultural events as they witnessed them," she says.
Beyond her book writing, Dye maintains a blog called "Rebellious Corsets," which focuses on the stories of women from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Her recent article about the Fredericksburg Library, operated by a small group of women in the historic courthouse from 1877 to 1949, continues her mission of highlighting overlooked female contributions to local history.
Dye has woven her passion for local history into her family life as her daughters have grown. They will often enjoy taking walks through downtown Fredericksburg and the battlefields, and even cooking 19th-century Virginia dishes at home –"especially ones no one has heard of."
For aspiring writers in the community, Dye offers simple but powerful advice: "Whatever you write, make sure you are passionate. Your passion will come through your writing."
Through her meticulous research and storytelling, Sarah Dye ensures that the voices of Fredericksburg's forgotten women continue to inspire new generations.
