Zoom Workshop: Nutrition And Healthy Living A Free Forum For Breast Cancer Survivors

“Surviving Breast Cancer: Empower yourself with nutrition and a healthy lifestyle” is a free forum to be held on Friday, September 22 from 12 noon to 1 pm on zoom.

Dr. Heather Zinkin, a radiation oncologist at Northwell Health in Huntington, will provide important information to empower patients to take hold of their health. Topics to be discussed include health screenings, prevention, vaccines, and more.

Dr. Heather Zinkin has a special interest in integrative medicine, patient wellness and nutrition. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She graduated from NYU School of Medicine and performed her medical internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She completed a residency in radiation oncology

at a combined program at Tufts and Brown University and served as chief resident. She then returned to her hometown where she has been practicing for the past 15 years and was appointed Chief of Radiation Medicine at Huntington Hospital. She has given many survivorship lectures both in hospital and community settings including active participation in the Northwell Wellness Center. She has also served on various physician panels for community education and holds certificates in Nutrition from Cornell University.

“Tanker Foes” To Put Allied And Enemy Armor “On The Road”

As The Museum Of American Armor And Nassau County Pay Tribute To All Those Who Have Served This Labor Day Weekend

On Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September 2nd, and Sunday, September 3rd between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., The Museum of American Armor at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, will present “Tanker Foes” that will allow visitors to see in motion historic Allied and replica enemy armor used by combatants during World War II.

The armor program will take place adjacent to the Armor Museum. Among the museum’s inventory are full size operational German replica armor meant to underscore the courage and sacrifice of American forces required to confront and defeat an implacable foe nearly 80 years ago.

The legendary Sherman tank and M18 Hellcat will be driven within museum grounds, passing a replica Tiger tank, one of the most feared weapons on the World War II battlefield. Other armor in operation will include a tank recovery vehicle, recon armor cars that liberated the Nazi death camps, a British Bren Carrier similar to those that came ashore at Normandy, and a broad range of other historic military vehicles.

The program is made possible, in part, through the support of the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums, PSEG Long Island, Squad Security, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, BDG, Ltd., and the Bristal Assisted Living.

The Museum of American Armor, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, is inside the grounds of Old Bethpage Village Restoration (OBVR) and is open year around, Wednesday and Fridays through Sundays. Recommended admission donations for entry are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and veterans and children between the ages of 5 and 12.

Lightning Warriors To Host 4th Annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon

Lightning Warriors, a notfor-profit youth triathlon team, will be hosting its 4th annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon on Sunday September 17, 2023 at 7:00 AM at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai, New York.

This year’s Mini Maniac event will be geared toward triathletes of all levels between the ages of 7 and 17. While all racers will be participating in a youth triathlon, races will be divided into three separate age groups with swimming, biking and running distances

varying accordingly. Younger athletes are also encouraged to register to participate in the Splash & Dash event, which is a 50-meter swim and a quarter-mile run for athletes between the ages of 5 and 7.

“I am excited to see the smiles and accomplishments as each athlete crosses the finish line and for those first timers being called a triathlete,” says Lightning Warriors Head Coach Noah Lam.

All Mini Maniac participants will be able to take part in

training clinics with the Lightning Warriors team in the months leading up to the triathlon. Favor bags will also be distributed to each racer, as well as medals for all finishers, awards for the top male and female finishers and post-race refreshments. Participating in youth triathlons help build positive physical activity habits in children. According to Lam, “Every child should be able to swim, bike and run as those are lifetime skills… We’ve also seen that physical activity can provide immense

benefits for mental health, more self-esteem, a sharper focus on achieving goals and a better ability to connect with other kids.”

Athletes’ individual skills will also be enhanced by being a part of a team in a healthy competitive and supportive space. “You get to find new ways to overcome adversity in a safe environment,” Lam states. These skills will thus motivate them to exuberate confidence and conquer their goals, both inside and outside of racing.

The Mini Maniac event is
