Bay Shore & Brentwood Scouts BSA Units Work Together

On Saturday, July 20th, Cub Pack 25 of Brentwood along with Venturing Crew 105 of Bay Shore and their charter organization, Living Proof COGIC, invited Troop 43 and 430 of Bay Shore to assist with a school supply distribution and Scouts BSA Unit Awareness event. The afternoon consisted of a wonderful program of activities including a school supply distribution, lunch and snacks, prayer, a social services consultation area, a photo booth, games, and an opportunity to meet local political leaders. Scouts BSA offers programs for all youth boys and girls of all abilities from Kindergarten through 20 years of age. Additionally there are other programs through the BSA in Suffolk County such as Explorer units and Sea Scouts. The 42nd Annual Paumanauke Pow-Wow

The Paumanauke Native American Festival Inc., The Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts (BACCA), and the Town of Babylon proudly present the 42nd Paumanauke PowWow on Saturday, August 10, 2024 and Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Tanner Park in Copiague, located on Long Island’s Great South Bay.

This two-day, family-friendly festival of Native American culture features Indigenous dance and dance competitions, traditional drums, native foods, and plenty of audience participation.

Through an exhibition of Native American art, music and dance, the Paumanauke Pow-Wow brings these traditions to visitors in a beautiful setting at Tanner Park. Native American artists, artisans and craftspeople will display their goods for sale.

Admission (at the gate): Adults

ADULT PROGRAMS: Through September 16th –Mondays from 6:00 to 7:15 P.M. – Gentle Chair Yoga (BBA327) – The non-refundable fee for this class is $30.00. Discover an ancient, gentle, moving yoga that promotes regeneration, energy, and peace and helps slow down our minds so we can access our natural state of being.

August 10th – Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. – Free Shredding Day at the Library –Bring your unwanted documents for onsite shredding while you watch via closed circuit video. The shredding truck will be located in the library parking lot. There is a limit of two bags of paper per vehicle. Only paper is shredded.

August 14th –- Wednesday 7:00 to 8:30 P.M – Fireside Book

Discussion – The book to be discussed is Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See. Copies of the book in various formats are available a month before the next meeting at the Circulation Desk. Community Service Hours – Middle and High School students can earn community service hours by bringing in travel size hygiene products. Four items will earn students one hour of community service. These products will be used in the library’s clean cabinet for our community members in need. Please bring your items to the teen or children’s desk.

TEEN COMMUNITY SERVICE CREDITS:

August 8th - Thursday from 4:00 to 4:45 P.M. – Craft Buddies (BBYA105) - Help younger friends make a craft and earn community service credit.

August 9th - Friday from 11:00 to 11:45 A.M. – Lego Buddies (BBYA103) – Help younger friends build a Lego masterpiece and earn community service credit.

Mini Food Pantry – The Bay Shore-Brightwaters Library has a Mini Food Pantry for those in the community that might need some extra help. If you are interested in contributing, please bring items to the Circulation Desk. Non-perishable food, baby items or paper products are greatly appreciated.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MOVIES:

August 20th – Tuesday from 2:30 to 7:00 P.M. – Blood Drive – Join the New York Blood Center and the Library as we host our annual blood drive. There is a critical blood shortage and lives could be impacted. Donating one pint of blood can save up to three lives.
