America’s Boating Courses Being Offered To The Public

BRIANNA’S LAW has passed and is being implemented in five annual stages that began on January 1, 2020 – depending on the age of the boat captain. All power boat operators will be required to obtain a NASBLA approved Safe Boating Certificate by January, 2025, regardless of age. So, now is the time to sign up for a Safe Boating Course to fulfill this requirement and to keep you, your friends, and family, as well as other boaters safe on our great waterways. Don’t delay… get your certificate for the upcoming boating season! Offered by America’s Boating Club of the Great South Bay, you may register for one of these “America’s Boating Courses” on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 9:30am to 12:30pm, April 22, 2023 from 9:30am to 12:30pm, and April 29, 2023 from 9:30am to 1:30pm. All classes will be held at the West Islip Library, 3 Higbie Lane, West Islip, NY 11795, and is available for adults and youth who are at least a 7th Grade reading level.

The basic boating knowledge topics include:

NEW YORK STATE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION CASE 20-T-0617

NOTICE OF FILING OF SUNRISE WIND LLC’S PHASE 2 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CONSTRUCTION PLAN FOR THE SUNRISE WIND NEW YORK CABLE PROJECT

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, on March 24, 2023, pursuant to Article VII of the New York Public Service Law (the “PSL”), Sunrise Wind LLC (the “Applicant”), a 50/50 joint venture between Ørsted North America Inc. and Eversource Investment LLC, will le a copy of its proposed Phase 2 Environmental Management and Construction Plan (“EM&CP”) with the New York State Public Service Commission (the “NYSPSC”) related to the Sunrise Wind New York Cable Project (the “Project”). The Project will deliver power from the Sunrise Wind Farm (“SRWF”)—which is under a 25-year Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Certi cate (“OREC”) contract with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (“NYSERDA”)—located in federal waters on the Outer Continental Shelf, to the existing electrical grid in New York State.

Construction associated with Phase 2 of the Project includes the remainder of Project installation beyond Phase 1 work, speci cally: (i) installation of remaining civil works (i.e., ductbanks) along the Project’s route outside of New York State Department of Transportation-controlled rights of way, including horizontal directional drills (HDD) from Smith Point Marina to Smith Point County Park, and from Smith Point County Park to the offshore HDD exit point (ii) cable installation, both onshore and offshore; and (iii) remainder of construction works at the Project’s new onshore converter station (the “OnCS–DC”) . All of the work associated with Phase 2 of the Project will occur in the Town of Brookhaven.

PHASE 2 EM&CP

The EM&CP describes the construction procedures and environmental protection measures proposed to be used for the Project, including but not limited to: the location of the Project, proposed construction methods, construction noti cations, vegetation removal, traffic management, noise minimization, water quality standards, contaminated soil and water handling, stormwater management, terrestrial and marine rare, threatened, and endangered species protections, and many other measures to be implemented during the construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of the Project. SRW developed the EM&CP in conformance with the requirements of the conditions appended to the Project’s Certi cate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need (“CECPN”) and in consultation with the New York State Department of Public Service, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Department of State, New York State Department of Transportation, and the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk County.

Any person may be heard by the Commission on any matter or objection regarding the EM&CP by ling written comments with both the Secretary of the NYSPSC and SRW (at the addresses below) within 45 days of the date the proposed EM&CP was led with the Commission, or within 45 days of the date of the newspaper publication of the EM&CP Filing Notice, whichever is later. Please reference Case 20-T-0617 when making any comments or requesting further information regarding the Project. Comments on any subsequent revisions to the EM&CP, in response to the aforementioned written comments, shall be submitted within 15 days of service by electronic means of said revisions.

In addition, any person who requires additional information about a speci c geographical location or speci c subject with respect to the Project or EM&CP may request such information from SRW by contacting the Project through the means identi ed below:

Canine Companions is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people by providing highly trained service dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. They proudly o er their support services free of charge to recipients.

Their Northeast Region (Long Island Chapter) is located right in Medford, however they have six regions across the country and serve all 50 states.

Did you know that National Puppy Day is March 23rd? Canine Companions will be celebrating with a live puppy cam from 9ammidnight, featuring eight-week-old future service dogs. You can tune in to watch this litter of very special puppies as they romp and play, eat and sleep and begin their lifechanging journeys. In addition to the puppies, the live feed will feature three informative presentations. Join the fun by visiting canine.org/puppy cam!

You can help the puppies of today become the service dogs of tomorrow by becoming a volunteer puppy raiser! Volunteers are warmly welcomed in other capacities as well, such as Front Desk Reception, General O ce Support, Puppy Transporter and Event Support, amongst other fields. Without loyal volunteers, this organization couldn’t fulfill their mission, so they are beyond grateful for each individual that gives their time and e orts to help.

The New York Press Association, the trade association for newspapers in New York, is seeking a talented college creator to be our chief TikTok officer for the summer.

The internship will pay a net take-home stipend of $2600 and weekly schedules/work hours are negotiable.
