From Tiger Scout In Pack 153 To Troop 43 Eagle Scout

On Saturday, February 17, 2023, Vincent D., completed his board of review earning the Scouts BSA Rank of Eagle Scout.

Congratulations Vincent on this long journey. He joined Cub Scout Pack 153 of Bay Shore as he started 1st grade, he

had fun along the trail through the Cub Scout Ranks, and in 5th grade earning Cub Scout’s highest award the Arrow of Light, he continued to the Scouts BSA program and eventually found his home with Troop 43 of Bay Shore where he has

successfully completed all the requirements to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Vincent plans to continue his scouting trail with Troop 43 as a youth member supporting other scouts and the Scouts BSA program while he continues to have fun and

show the Scout Spirit while earning additional merit badges and participating in activities balanced with his academics.

Vincent is thankful for all the adult leaders, parents, and fellow scouts who have supported him throughout the past 8 years

along his scouting trail. Special thanks to Troop 43’s Charter Organization AMVETS Post 76 and Pack 153’s Charter Organization St Peters by the Sea for supporting scouting the Bay Shore Brightwaters area.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library (“Library”), a Special District Meeting of the qualified voters of Bay Shore Union Free School District, Bay Shore, New York (“School District”), will be held at the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library located at 1 South Country Road, Brightwaters, New York on Tuesday, April

If you are interested in contributing, please bring items to the Circulation Desk. Nonperishable food, baby items or paper products are greatly appreciated.

Bus Trips – Find out about our popular library trips to places on Long Island, New York City and upstate New York by going on to our website or stopping by the Circulation Desk to see what is being planned beginning April 1st. The trips are open to Bay ShoreBrightwaters Residents and

Emeritus A & L Members for the first ten days then open to all.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS:

You must have a valid Bay Shore-Brightwaters Library Card in order to register for any programs.

Community Service Hours – Middle and High School students can earn community service hours by bringing in travel size hygiene products. Four items will earn students one hour of community service. These products will be used in the library’s clean cabinet for our community members in need. Please bring your items to the teen or children’s desk.

Teen Community Service credits: March 15th –Friday from 4:00 to 4:45 P.M. – Help younger friends build a Lego masterpiece.

March 25th through May 13th – Mondays from 6:00 to 7:15 P.M. – Yoga with Jodi (BBA315) – Jodi will lead you through a yoga class focused on connecting breath, mind and body to help you deepen your practice and relax your nervous system. This class is great for all levels and will incorporate flow and yin yoga. Variations will be given for all poses.

March 28th – Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. –Those Wise Guys of LI… Owls! (BBA317) – Owls are fascinating, mysterious and beautiful. Join Dianne Taggart, a Long Island birder, who will share many photos and facts about these magnificent and wonderful birds.

March 30th – Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. – Free Shredding Day at the Library. Bring your unneeded documents for onsite shredding. The truck will be located outside in the library parking lot. There is a limit of two bags of paper per vehicle. Only paper is shredded.

per day. During the pandemic, however, Kitchen procedures had to be modified in order to provide hot, nourishing meals safely and continuously to those in need. Indoor sit-down dining was discontinued and only take-out dining was available.

But today the Kitchen is posing for a post-Covid reopening – a

reorganizational rebirth of sorts – where Kitchen procedures can finally return to again offering guests dignified, indoor sit-down dining.

The Kitchen relies heavily on its generous volunteer support and, as such, numerous on-site and off-site volunteer opportunities are now available.

While there are openings for

on-site positions, such as helping to prepare and serve meals and to perform various maintenance functions, there are also openings for diverse off-site positions in areas such as finance, grant development and preparation, legal compliance assurance, marketing duties, social media facilitation and fund raising/ donation coordination.

Environmental Scholarships Offered

The South Shore Audubon Society is offering two $1,000 scholarships for College juniors, seniors, or graduate students earning a degree in the areas of biological or environmental science. This includes wildlife management, forestry, animal behavior, ecology, marine biology, oceanography, mammalogy, ornithology or the field of sustainable and renewable energy. Previous winners have used their scholarships to help purchase books, to pay for travel expenses to field sites, for specialized equipment or other educational needs.

To be eligible for the Scholarships, applicants must be residents of one of the areas listed at www.ssaudubon.org/areas-weserve.asp and/or attend a college

in Nassau or Suffolk County. Students Visit Architectural Firm

STUDENTS VISIT ARCHITECTURAL FIRM - Students taking Introduction to Architecture and Construction at Bay Shore High School visited the H2M architectural and engineering firm in Melville. Students in the course, which bears college credit through Farmingdale State College, learned the various pathways that exist to enter these career tracks, listened to guest speakers from the different departments within H2M, and participated build events to put their architectural skill to the test. Legislator Donnelly And County Office For The Aging Announce Islip Winter Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Islip residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Winter 2024 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging

provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”

In the coming months, Senior Advocates will be visiting the following locations in the Town of Islip:

• Bay Shore Library, 1 S. Country Road, Brightwaters: Friday, March 15, 10 am – 12 pm

• Bishop McGann Housing, 200 Bishop McGann Drive, Central Islip: Monday, March 25, 10 am – 12 pm

Advocates assist with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

(SNAP – formerly known as food stamps), Medicare Savings Program and Heating Emergency Assistance Program (HEAP) applications. They also can provide information on Medicare, answer questions and make recommendations and referrals.
