Town of Babylon officials joined with colleagues from across Long Island on Friday, September 5, in Massapequa, to dedicate the street where Detective Stephen J. Mullen once lived, honoring his decades of law enforcement service and enduring legacy of courage.

Detective Mullen, who served in the Suffolk County

Street Dedicated In Honor Of Detective Stephen J. Mullen, 9/11 Responder

Police Department’s 1st Precinct, was widely recognized for his heroic actions during the 2000 plane crash near Republic Airport and for his tireless work at Ground Zero following the September 11th terrorist attacks. His career reflected an unwavering commitment to public safety and his community.

“Detective Mullen’s life of service reminds us of the extraordinary courage shown by all of our September 11th first responders,” said Councilman and Public Safety Chairman Terence McSweeney. “Their sacrifices will never be forgotten, and this dedication ensures future generations will

remember the strength and selflessness of heroes like Detective Mullen.”

Councilman McSweeney also expressed gratitude to Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino for hosting the dedication.

“I want to extend my gratitude to Supervisor Saladino for bringing us together in this meaningful way,” McSweeney said.

“This tribute is a powerful reminder of how one individual’s service can inspire and uplift an entire community.”

Supervisor Saladino spoke of Detective Mullen’s lasting impact on Long Island. “Detective Mullen represented the very best of law enforcement— courage, compassion, and dedication,” said Saladino.

“By naming this street in his honor, we ensure that his service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Legislator Tom Donnelly also reflected on Detective Mullen’s commitment to service. “Detective Mullen was a true hometown hero whose dedication extended far beyond the badge,” said Donnelly. “His work during some of our community’s darkest days showed incredible bravery, and it is only fitting that his name will forever be a part of the neighborhood he loved.”

The dedication ceremony was attended by members

of the Suffolk County Police Department, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the Nassau County Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies, along with state and local elected officials.

Detective Mullen is survived by his wife and two sons, Patrick and James. The newly named street will serve as a lasting reminder of his service, sacrifice, and devotion to both family and community.

Massapequa’s youngest learners took their first steps toward high school graduation in 2038 as they arrived for the first day of school on Sept. 3.

Massapequa Says Hello To The Class Of 2038

In keeping with a district tradition, kindergartners started on the second day of school after a brief orientation on Sept. 2. This time, they arrived

ready for a full day of school. Backpacks were filled with supplies and their minds were full of curiosity as they explored new surroundings. For

those with older siblings, it was finally their chance to go to the “big kid” school.

Across Massapequa’s six elementary buildings, 509 kindergartners are enrolled this year, ready to learn and eventually become the next generation of student leaders. With unlimited potential, their first day was filled with making connections with teachers, classmates and other friendly faces.

The Michele & Mark Goodman Team

Seaford

“During our first meeting with Michele we knew immediately she was the person we wanted to help sell our home of 36 years. Every detail of the process was clearly explained to us and executed exactly as proposed. Michele helped us carefully review our offers and pointed out the positives and negatives of each one. In the end we got a terrific price for our home and we were very happy. We highly recommend Michele for her professionalism and many years of real estate knowledge.” ... Andrew & Sheryl Engel

“We give Michele & Mark Goodman our very highest recommendation!! My husband who is a real estate attorney & I knew that we wanted Michele and Mark to find a buyer for our home and quickly! That was a good decision!! They found a buyer within a few weeks & negotiated a price of $82,000 higher than our asking. We have already recommended this team to clients and will highly recommend them to friends & family. They are true professionals!!” ... Arnie & Resa Hauptman

“After researching and interviewing a number of realtors to sell our Massapequa home, we decided on using the Michele and Mark Goodman Team at Douglas Elliman Real Estate. Michele and Mark conducted thorough market research, had expert historical knowledge of the house and its community and were very knowledgeable of the various selling features the neighborhood offered. The Team’s confident approach to listing and marketing the property was effective, resulting in strong prospect interest and ultimately a very satisfying sales price within a short time frame. They also did an excellent job keeping us informed along the way and were, without fail, extremely responsive to questions sent to them regardless of the time of day.” ... Jeffrey Tomitz
