Free Mega Job Fair

Oyster Bay Town

Supervisor Joseph Saladino and The Workforce Partnership announced that a Mega Job Fair will take place on Thursday, October 24th, at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage.  There is no charge for admission and parking is free. Doors open at 10am, and the event runs until 1pm.

Employers from across Long Island will be seeking candidates for positions including entry and middle management level, licensed professional, hospitality and food service industries, banking, staffing and individuals with technical and IT experience.

“We’re proud to have helped thousands of residents find meaningful employment through our career center and private sector jobs fair,” said Supervisor Saladino. “The

Workforce Partnership and Town of Oyster Bay are committed to helping residents find meaningful employment opportunities as well as assisting local businesses in recruiting qualified employees.

This Mega Job Fair will connect private and public sector employers with job seekers.”

The Town of Oyster Bay serves as administrator of The Workforce Partnership, a consortium of local governments funded by the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act that provides free valuable resources to both employers and job seekers at Career Centers in Hicksville and Massapequa.  These centers help train employees to meet the needs of the private sector, connecting qualified job seekers with employers, and by assisting applicants in accessing job opportunities.  The Centers

offer Resource Rooms, which are equipped with state-of-the-art computer workstations, complete with Microsoft software and internet access.  Additionally, these Centers offer residents access to job listings, resource materials, photocopiers, fax machines and telephones.  The Centers provide employability and computer workshops, as well as career counselors who will guide residents through their job search. Computer workshops are taught on-site in modern computer labs. Residents can increase their marketability by updating or acquiring new computer skills at the Centers.

For more information about this program and the many other great services that the Town’s Workforce Partnership program offers, contact (516) 7974560 or email business@ oysterbay-ny.gov.

Less than two-tenths of a point separated a pair of Seaford seniors who have devoted extraordinary time to their studies while also ensuring well-rounded high school experiences. Anastasia Perlegis will graduate as the Class of 2025 valedictorian with a weighted grade point average of 107.46, while Ava Caruso’s 107.29 GPA earned her salutatorian honors. They both look back at the moment they found about the achievement with a laugh. Anastasia was dressed up as Adam Sandler and Ava was Kelsea Ballerini as the two spirited students

were taking part in celebrity day, one of five themed dress-up days leading up to homecoming. They both emerged from the guidance office in costume holding green and white balloons, courtesy of Principal Nicole Schnabel.

The honor was a dream come true for both of them. Getting the official word validated their hard work over the past several years, as they have both taken on rigorous course loads. Anastasia enrolled in 14 Advanced Placement courses and Ava took 13 of the college-level classes.

The pair have been extremely active in student life, as well. Both were selected to the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society, with Anastasia serving as president of the latter group.

Anastasia, who attended Seaford Manor Elementary School, is also a member of the Leo’s Club, Spirit Week Committee and was crowned the 2024 homecoming queen. Outside of school, she is heavily involved with her church, St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox in Merrick, serving as a teaching assistant at the Hellenic

School, a competitive Greek dancer and a member of the service-based Greek Orthodox Youth of America. Ava, who moved to Seaford from Merrick in middle school, is a three-sport athlete, serving as captain of the field hockey, bowling and spring track teams. She is vice president of the Class of 2025 and member of Books and Bagels, the Green Team, Mathletes and Science Club. Additionally, she volunteers with Operation SPLASH to help clean up local waterways, and works at Sonny’s Fishing Station.

Both students were selected as HOBY Ambassadors as sophomores, attending the regional Hugh

O’Brian Youth leadership conference in 2023. They have also portrayed the Seaford Viking in the homecoming parade, taken numerous art classes and will graduate with an AP Capstone diploma. Anastasia is striving to earn the Seal of Biliteracy in Greek and Spanish, and Ava will look to complete the requirements in French.

After high school, Anastasia plans to attend college to become a pediatric physical therapist, with Ava expecting to major in environmental science research.

While they still have most of senior year left, Anastasia and Ava look back on

their time at Seaford High School fondly, knowing they forged strong bonds with classmates and teachers while also taking advantage of numerous academic and extracurricular offerings.

“It’s a very close-knit community,” Anastasia said. “It’s become like a family. There’s unlimited opportunities here and you make what you want out of it.”

“Since we’re a small school,” Ava added, “you get to make better connections, especially with teachers as a lot of them you’ll have for multiple years. Everyone always has your best interests at heart.”

The top-ranked graduates in the Seaford High School Class of 2025 are salutatorian Ava Caruso, left, and valedictorian Anastasia Perlegis.

Volunteers Welcomed To Plant Dune Grass At TOBAY Beach

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announce that the Town will host a fall ‘Dune Day’ initiative on Sunday, October 13th at TOBAY Beach, beginning at 10 a.m. The dune planting program, held annually in the spring, is being added this fall after a major storm washed away much of the TOBAY shoreline in advance of the summer. To save the summer reason for Town residents, officials replenished the beach with 33,000 tons of sand in advance of the summer.

“After we successfully rebuilt much of our shoreline to ensure our residents could enjoy their summer at TOBAY Beach, our Town looked into securing grant funding for new dune grass so a follow up planting program could take place in the fall to help further protect

the new dunes that were constructed,” explained Supervisor Saladino. “We were successful in securing a $15,000 grant from the Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District to replace the dune grass washed away this spring and help protect the dunes which are vital to protecting our beach.”

The Dune Stabilization Project helps preserve the beach and barrier island as dunes along the south shore continue to face environmentally damaging storms that can have a

significant impact on the beach. Statistics indicate that the planting of dune grass provides a natural shield that is perfect for withstanding storm surges and high winds. To register in advance as a volunteer, residents can visit www.oysterbaytown. com/volunteerform. For additional information, contact the Department of Environmental Resources at (516) 677-5943 or email environmental@oysterbayny.gov.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato joined with NYPD officials and representatives from St. Mary’s High School to announce a scholarship fund in memory of Detective Jonathan Diller, who was tragically murdered in the line of duty in March, leaving behind wife Stephanie and a young child. Supervisor Saladino, alongside Stephane Diller, acknowledged Larry Weinberger, president of MGD Realty, for spearheading the scholarship initiative and contributing the first $5,000 to get it off the ground.

“The Town of Oyster Bay never forgets its hometown heroes, and Officer Diller sacrificed his life because of his bravery and undeterred commitment to serving

the public and keeping us safe,” said Supervisor Saladino. “He will forever be remembered as a hometown hero, and the Detective Jonathan Diller Scholarship Fund launched today will ensure people will forever remember him.”

A 2010 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, Jonathan learned the importance of values, service, community and respect while achieving academic success. This well-rounded education was important to him and led him to a career in law enforcement. Stephanie and her family want others to have the same opportunity that Jonathan did at St. Mary’s, which led to the creation of this scholarship initiative.
