Farmingdale Village Green

Farmingdale’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 516, along with Farmingdale’s American Legion, invite all members of the community to join them for a patriotic ceremony to thank and honor our military veterans, those who served in the United States Armed Forces.

It’s ‘On the House’

For Veterans

In recognition of Veterans Day (November 11), the Jazz Loft will honor all veterans with a free drink at the November 8 performance. While there are no shows scheduled on Veterans Day itself, this special pre-holiday gesture reflects The Jazz Loft’s deep appreciation for those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“We are so thankful at The Jazz Loft for the sacrifices and contributions of our veterans past, present, and future,” said Tom Manuel, President and Founder of The Jazz Loft. “We hope that this small way of celebrating them gives a little sense of just how grateful we are to

each and every veteran for their service.”

The November 8 performance will feature powerhouse jazz vocalist Brianna Thomas and her Trio, part of the Alan Greiman Memorial Cabaret Series. Known for her stunning range, soulful phrasing, and commanding stage presence, Thomas has been hailed as one of the most dynamic voices on the modern jazz scene.

Tickets are $30 Adults, $25 Seniors, $20 Students. For more information, visit www.thejazzloft.org or call 631-751-1895. The Jazz Loft is located at 275 Christian Avenue, Stony Brook, NY 11790.

Farmingdale Village Renames Street: Tim Collins Way!

There’s the famed Collins Avenue in Miami, and now there is a TIM COLLINS WAY in Farmingdale!

On Saturday, October 11th, at 4:00 PM, it became official as the street sign was unveiled in front of a huge crowd, and just outside where The Inn On Main used to be—the corner of

Main Street and South Front Street. Everyone could feel the Love and Respect for Timothy Collins, formerly of Farmingdale, who passed away in February 2008. Tim was the proprietor of The Inn on Main and was a former owner of Mer’s Pub, a wrestling coach at Farmingdale

Schools, and a supporter of innumerable athletic teams, organizations, and fundraisers for the Farmingdale community. And of course, he was also the devoted husband of Teri, beloved father of T.J.

Celebrating the unveiling of Tim Collins Way, which hangs with Daler pride on

the corner of South Front Street, were many friends and family, with the help and outstanding efforts of Farmingdale Village Trustee Craig Rosasco, Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand, and Deputy Mayor William Barrett, Village Trustees Cheryl Parisi and Walter Priestley, DPW, and

many others! It was terrific to listen to Craig and Teri’s heartfelt speeches, along with the special others, including fellow restaurant owner Tom Soluri. Also in attendance at the celebration was New York State Senator Steven Rhoads, as well as Town of Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato, who

presented a Proclamation declaring October 11, 2025, as Tim Collins Day in the Village of Farmingdale. Jennifer Gallub Pravato represented Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s office (she is running for a legislative seat).

Notable Monuments To Veterans Across The United States

Veterans Day honors the millions of men and women who have sacrificed much to serve in the United States military. Veterans Day is commemorated each year on November 11 because it was that day in 1918 when an armistice was reached between combatants in World War I, which estimates suggest claimed the lives of as many as 22 million people.

There are many ways for Americans to celebrate veterans on Veterans Day. Visiting war memorials can instill a greater sense of appreciation for the men and women who have served in the United States military. The following are some notable war memorials honoring veterans across the United States.

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is an iconic memorial located in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Cemetery officials note New York Congressman and World War I veteran Hamilton Fish, Jr., played an integral role in establishing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by proposing legislation that provided for the internment of one unknown American soldier killed during WWI. Guards are now present at the tomb 24/7, and visitors, including U.S. presidents and

foreign dignitaries, typically lay a wreath at the tomb to honor the sacrifices of all U.S. veterans.

Korean War Veterans Memorial

The Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. honors the roughly 1.5 million American veterans who fought alongside forces from the United Nations in a conflict that lasted from 1950 to 1953. Nineteen sculptures depicting U.S. servicemen on patrol during the conflict are among the many notable components of this moving memorial, which also features a wall and pool of remembrance that display the names of the more than 36,000 Americans killed during the Korean War.

Liberty Memorial

The Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, was built in 1926 to honor the brave American service members who lost their lives in World War I. The Liberty Memorial, which is now known as the National World War I Museum and Memorial, is an iconic landmark in Kansas City that features the Liberty Memorial Tower, which rises 217 feet about Memorial Courtyard and 268 feet above the North Lawn. The top of the

tower emits a flame at night to create a stunning visual. Memory Hall on the east side of the Liberty Memorial Tower containing a portion of the Panthéon de la Guerre, an iconic French painting that depicts the Allied nations of World War I.

USS Arizona Memorial

The USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii, is dedicated to preserving the memories of the sacrifices of servicemen who fought in the Pacific theater throughout World War II. The memorial marks the resting place of more than 1,100 sailors during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, an event that led to U.S. involvement in World War II. The memorial is accessible exclusively by boat and the sunken remains of the battleship USS Arizona straddle the site.

These are just four of the many notable landmarks that commemorate the sacrifice and service of U.S. military members over the course of the nation’s history.

Farmingdale Unites Through Music Celebrating Inclusion And Community With

Marching For All. The Farmingdale School District welcomed alumnus Brian Calhoun and his nationally recognized Calhoun Drum Academy, featuring the inspiring All Abilities Drumline, for a powerful collaboration celebrating music and inclusion. Paul Defendini, Farmingdale Superintendent, shared, “We were thrilled to collaborate with Brian on this project. It perfectly reflected our district’s

The All Abilities Drumline

values, celebrating diversity, fostering inclusion, and giving all students a chance to shine.”

This unique partnership unites individuals of all abilities through the shared language of rhythm and performance. The initiative will be featured in an upcoming professional documentary, produced by award-winning filmmakers based in New York City and scheduled for release in 2026. The film aims to

redefine ability, promote inclusion, and showcase how music can bring communities together. The collaboration’s first event, the Marching for All Unified Performance, took place on Saturday, October 4, at the Farmingdale High School turf field. The evening was filled with joy, energy, and emotion as the All Abilities Drumline joined the Farmingdale High School Marching Band for a unified performance that

left the audience inspired. The highlight of the night was a moving, all-inclusive rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.”

And the celebration isn’t over yet! The All Abilities Drumline will return to Farmingdale for a special encore performance during halftime at the Farmingdale vs. Massapequa football game on Saturday, October 18. This encore will once again spotlight the spirit of unity, community pride, and musical excellence that defines the Daler community. Brian Calhoun, Director of the Calhoun Drum Academy, shared, “This partnership was a shining example of how General Education and Special Education can come together through Music Education. I hope our joint work inspired students, educators, and communities everywhere to see that music is for everyone.” The Farmingdale School District is proud to stand behind initiatives that celebrate every student’s voice, rhythm, and potential. Together, we continue to march forward—for all.

The club was warmly received by about 10 or 12 residents. Epic House provides services and support to meet individuals’ needs so that as their level of care can change, if needed,

and they can age in place. This allows them to remain in homes that are comfortable and familiar to them, surrounded by staff and peers who know them well. Regardless of their level of need, each person participates in their community to the fullest extent possible. For many, this may include attending day programs, others may volunteer or

work, some attend school, others are retired, and all are encouraged to explore hobbies and interests to attain fulfillment.
