The new Good Samaritan University Hospital is coming. And our South Shore community is about to get a whole lot better.

MONDAY-SATURDAY 11AM-10PM

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities. That’s why we’re proud to give back to those establishments across Long Island and in The Rockaways through our energy efficiency and economic development programs. You too can help support them by shopping for gifts in your community. It’s how we keep our local economy strong and how we stick together on our island.

The Jingle Bell Run is a spirited, family-friendly 5K fundraising event that brings the community together to champion the Arthritis Foundation’s mission: fighting for a cure and championing

the fight against the nation’s leading cause of disability. Participants are encouraged to wear holiday-themed costumes, tie jingle bells to their shoes and celebrate the season while supporting a meaningful cause. The run begins at 10:30 am!

“All proceeds from the Jingle Bell Run support cutting-edge research, advocacy, and lifechanging resources for

the more than 60 million Americans — including 300,000 children — living with arthritis,” said Alexis Stone, Executive Director, Arthritis Foundation, NYC.

“It’s a fun, festive way to make a difference in the lives of those affected by arthritis right here in our community.”

The event is locally presented by Northwell Orthopedics and it welcomes runners,

walkers, teams and corporate sponsors. Participants can register individually or as part of a team, and fundraising incentives are available for top fundraisers. The morning will feature music, refreshments, awards and

Small Business Saturday is November 29th!

The many reasons to support Small Business Saturday

Small business is big business across much of America. Small businesses boast a very notable presence in the United States, where the Small Business Administration reports such establishments account for 99 percent of the nation’s firms.

With such a profound presence, it’s no wonder small businesses are championed at a point in time when shopping takes center stage. Small Business Saturday occurs each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, making it part of a weekend that is often

characterized as the start of the holiday shopping season.

With small businesses set to take their well-earned turn in the spotlight, consumers can ponder the many reasons to support Small Business Saturday this year.

• Small businesses are significant employers. The term “small business” can be misleading, particularly in terms of job creation. While small businesses are generally described as firms with fewer than 500 employees, recent data from the SBA indicated small companies accounted for two-thirds of employment growth across the U.S. over the last quarter century, ultimately generating around 13 million

jobs during that time period.

• Small businesses help to fund vital local services. Another notable reason to support small businesses is their role in creating strong local tax bases. The revenue generated by successful, local small businesses strengthens communities because it translates into tax income for local towns, which benefits schools, community organizations and public safety.

• Small business spending is more likely to stay in the local community. Another way supporting small businesses benefits communities relates to where consumers’ dollars go once they’re spent. Data from the American Independent Business Alliance indicates 48 percent of each purchase at a local independent business was recirculated locally. By comparison, just 14 percent of purchases at chain stores was recirculated locally. That means more than three times as much money is staying in communities when consumers buy from locally owned businesses compared to chain retailers.

There’s no shortage of reasons to support Small Business Saturday. This year, consumers can do their part and give local small businesses, and the communities they call home, their unwavering support by shopping local on Small Business Saturday.

Red, White And Blue Spirit Shines During Veterans Day Celebration

On Nov. 6, students and staff at Bayview Elementary School in the West Islip Union Free School District proudly celebrated Veterans Day with a special car parade honoring local heroes. The celebration began with a patriotic performance by members of the school band and chorus, setting a spirited tone for this heartfelt tribute.

Students invited family members and friends who are veterans to participate in the event, driving through the bus loop as students lined the route dressed in red, white, and blue. They waved flags and held handmade signs thanking veterans for their service. Leading up to the event, Bayview students learned about the importance of Veterans Day through activities and a tribute wall in the main hallway.

Girl Scouts Of Suffolk County Host 2025 Holiday Lights Show

The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County (GSSC) will host its annual Holiday Light Show, which returns to Camp Edey in Bayport for an expanded, magical walk-through experience, Thursdays through Sundays from November 28 to December 21, 2025. The winter wonderland will open with a celebratory countdown before the first night of the show on November 28 @ 5 pm. Camp Edey is located at 1500 Lakeview Ave., Bayport, NY 11705. Launched more than 20 years ago, the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County Holiday Light Show has grown into a Long Island tradition — transforming the scenic grounds of Camp Edey into an “Enchanted Forest” of lights. The highlight of the show will be “Girl Scout Way,” an area where the five winning creations from the 2025 Girl Scouts Holiday Light Design Contest will be on display. Each design was drawn by a

Girl Scout and then custombuilt by the groundkeepers at Camp Edey in creations spanning six to twelve feet tall.

The 2025 Girl Scouts Holiday Light Design Contest winners are:

• Penelope Alambra, Smithtown, Troop 358, Brownie

• Amani Bradley-Coleman, Sienna Lebron, Teresa Cortez, Natalia Ciborowski, Kaylee Jimenez, Kiera GreenWilson, Maggie Ericson, Bomi Oyewo, Hanmi Oyewo, Lindenhurst, Troop 506, Multi-Level

• Ciara Weisbecker, Babylon, SU 14 (Juliette), Senior

• Olivia Castelli, Patchogue, Troop 1400, Cadette

• Sadie Ciesinski, Melville, Troop 103, Junior

“This event is a beautiful example of how Girl Scouts combine imagination, leadership, and community

spirit to shine light— literally and figuratively— on the holiday season,” said Tammy Severino, President & CEO of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. “We are proud to showcase these designs and give visitors a chance to see the girls’ ideas brought to life in lights.”

Among the special features at this year’s Holiday Lights Show:

• A new “Cozy Bungalow Package” with admission for up to five guests in a private winter-themed bungalow plus food vouchers, offered at a special rate. Themes include Nordic Nest (Scandinavian, rustic, snowy lodge), Holly Jolly Hut (traditional red and green Christmas décor), Gumdrop Cottage (candycolored fun straight from a storybook and gingerbread-inspired décor), and Starlight Shack (twinkle lights and a starry winter’s

night with touches of snowflakes).

• The “Chill Zone” returns, with lawn games, fire-pit warmth, and hot-cocoa treats courtesy of First-Class Food Trucks.

• Visits with Santa Claus!

The event is open to the public, and ticket prices start at $12.50. Tickets and Cozy Bungalow reservations must be purchased in advance on the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County website:

http://www.gssclightshow. org. Every ticket purchased supports leadership programs, summer camp experiences, and financial assistance for girls throughout Suffolk County.
