Receiver Pravato Announces 40-Day Penalty Free Period To Pay School Property Taxes

Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes, Jeffrey P. Pravato, reminds residents that the First Half of the 2024-2025 School Tax Levy is due on October 1st, but can be paid without penalty through November 12th. The Town of Oyster Bay is closed on November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day.

“New York State Law

allows my office to provide taxpayers with a 40-day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be made without penalty,” Receiver Pravato explained. “After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent penalty is added for each month the tax remains unpaid, retroactive to October 1st. Don’t delay,

make your payment before November 12th and ensure you aren’t paying more out of pocket than you need to.”

The Tax Office is open in both Town Hall North, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, and Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa, daily from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm to assist residents and accept payments with a check, cash or debit/credit card (for a fee). Outdoor walkup windows are also available. On November 8th and 12th both offices will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. When paying in person, residents are reminded to bring the entire tax bill.

Residents who prefer to mail in their payments should send them to the Office of the Receiver of Taxes, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, N.Y. 117711539. Please be certain to sign your check, and make it payable to Jeffrey P. Pravato, Receiver of Taxes.

Indicate your property’s school district code, section, block, lot and phone number on the check. All mailed payments must have a United States Postal Service postmark dated on or before November 12th.

Taxpayers also have access to the 2024-2025 School Tax information on our online system via a link on the Town website, www.oysterbaytown.com.

Residents may view current tax bills, print out a hard copy, or pay taxes with an ACH check payment for a service fee of $1.75, or by debit/credit card for a much higher fee charged by the credit card companies. The Town of Oyster Bay receives no portion of this fee.

Receiver Pravato reminds residents that school budgets are set by their local school districts, and the Town of Oyster Bay is not involved in that process. Any questions related to School

Tax rates and amounts should be addressed to the resident’s school district. The telephone number for each school district is printed on the front of the School Tax bill.

To contact the Receiver of Taxes Office, please call (516) 624-6400 or email receiveroftaxes@ oysterbay-ny.gov. Residents are requested to have the school district code, section, block and lot numbers of the property in question available. This information is listed on the tax bill and on the property deed.

Town Celebrates Centennial Anniversary Of Woman’s Club Of Massapequa

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato recently joined the Woman’s Club of Massapequa to celebrate the organization’s 100th anniversary alongside current President Frances Cloud. The Woman’s Club of Massapequa is one of the oldest existing organizations in Massapequa and over the last century has made a positive impact within the community and advanced many worthwhile initiatives, particularly those affecting the welfare of children.

Fearless Engineers Stand Tall

There weren’t any crows to scare away, but that didn’t stop fourth graders in the Magnet program from embarking on a fun fall engineering challenge at East Lake Elementary School in the Massapequa School District.

Under the direction of Magnet and STEAM teacher Lisa Gennardo,

groups to make three paper scarecrows stand. The goal was to find three different solutions to make the scarecrows stay upright, without taping them to the desk or floor.

The materials they had to work with included a clothespin, index card, paper clip, plastic spoon, pipe cleaners, Q-tip, straws,

masking tape. The young engineers first had to discuss their plans before building. Once completed, they used a straw to blow on each scarecrow and if it fell over, they had to modify the design and try again. Students enhanced their critical thinking, problemsolving and teamwork skills.

Women Of Distinction

WOMEN OF DISTINCTION - Huge congratulations to our talented Massapequa Chamber Board Members Lucrezia Mastroserio-Falacara and Annette Morreale, who were recognized on Saturday, September 28th, by Assemblyman Mikulin as Women of Distinction. Assemblyman Durso Hosts 4th Annual Women Of Distinction Ceremony

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso (R-Massapequa Park) recently held his 4th Annual Women Distinction Ceremony at the Marjorie Post Community Center in Massapequa Park, recognizing ten extraordinary women for their professional accomplishments, personal achievements, and significant contributions to their communities.

The honorees are leaders, entrepreneurs, mothers, wives and role models from diverse backgrounds and fields, who have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations.

The event kicked off with performances by Massapequa High School’s String Ensemble, Emily Ogurick singing the National Anthem, and the Chordettes, a talented acapella group singing the classics with their harmonious renditions. Babylon resident, Joan Caliendo, a 2022 Women of Distinction and current Ms. New York Senior America, was the keynote speaker. She delivered inspiring words of encouragement, determination, and taking risks no matter what your age. Joan recently participated in the National

Ms. Senior America Pageant at the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City and was crowned 2nd runner-up.

“I want to congratulate all of the 2024 Women of Distinction honorees. It was a privilege to acknowledge these ten remarkable individuals who exemplify what it means to be courageous, selfless, and a positive role model for young women,” said Assemblyman Durso. “I want to especially thank the Massapequa School District and Massapequa High School students for their incredible performances.”

“The Town’s Pre-School Program offers a positive environment for each student to help and encourage their love of learning. Teachers focus on making learning and the social experience of the Pre-School Program fun for all children in an effort to make the first years of their education all the more enjoyable.”
