LI Against Domestic Violence The Town Of Babylon & Suffolk County Law Enforcement Agencies Unite For Kickball For A Cause To Combat Domestic Violence
LI Against Domestic Violence (LIADV) is partnering with the Town of Babylon and Suffolk County Law Enforcement Agencies for a unique event - Kickball for a Cause: Battle of the Badges. The event, taking place September 27th at Venetian Shores Park in Lindenhurst, kicks off Domestic Violence Awareness Month and is intended to raise awareness of domestic violence; an issue that impacts thousands of adults, children & companion animals throughout Suffolk County each year.
“Kickball for a Cause is not just a game, but a powerful statement of unity” said Wendy Linsalata, Executive Director of LI Against Domestic Violence. “We are so appreciative of the support of Babylon Town Councilman Terence McSweeney & the Town of Babylon. We are joining forces with our longtime partners to bring light to the often-hidden issue of domestic violence”.
LIADV has been providing essential services to survivors for over 48 years by offering a 24-hour hotline, shelter services, court and precinct advocacy services, counseling, and vocational advocacy services. The organization also focuses on prevention through educational programming in both schools and businesses. Kickball for a Cause is a shining example of LIADV’s commitment to raising awareness and building community partnerships to address this pressing issue.
“I’m excited to collaborate with LIADV to support fundraising efforts for individuals facing difficult circumstances. By empowering victims and survivors, offering them
shelter and assistance, and collaborating with law enforcement, we can ensure they know there is help available” said Babylon Town Councilman Terrence McSweeney.
“Domestic violence casts a long shadow across our communities, often hidden behind closed doors. This kickball event shines a vital light on an issue that demands our attention and action. By coming together as a community, we send a powerful message that abuse will not be tolerated, and help is available. I commend L.I. Against Domestic Violence for their tireless efforts to raise awareness and provide resources to those in need” said District Attorney Ray Tierney.
“The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office is proud to have a strong partnership with LI Against Domestic Violence and honored to support their vital work. Domestic violence remains a critical issue in our community that is often shrouded in silence. Events like this kickball tournament play a crucial role in raising awareness and bringing our community together to confront this problem. I encourage everyone to come out, support this important cause, and cheer on our dedicated law enforcement officers and our LIADV partners,” said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr.
“Domestic Violence involves a cycle of abuse that not only impacts the victim but the entire family—often occurring quietly behind closed doors. The Department’s Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse Bureau works tirelessly to ensure domestic incidents are addressed through a comprehensive approach of both enforcement
and outreach so victims receive justice and services. I commend LI Against Domestic Violence for hosting Kickball for a Cause, bringing law enforcement together to raise awareness for this crime that has too many suffering in silence” said Acting Suffolk County Police Commissioner Robert Waring. Come out and cheer for your favorite team! Admission is $10 per person (free for those 12 and under). Together, we can take a stand against domestic violence and make a difference in the lives of thousands who are impacted by this serious public health crisis. VILLAGE OF LINDENHURST NOTICE OF ADOPTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Lindenhurst Village Board by resolution dated September 17, 2024 adopted the following Local Law amending the Code of the Village of Lindenhurst as follows:
LOCAL LAW #4-2024 to Extend Local Law #4-2022 and Local Law #5 -2023 – Moratorium on Foot Spas and Massage Parlors
Section 1. Purpose.
The purpose of this local
is to extend the expiration date of Local Law #5 of 2023 from September 30, 2024 to September 30, 2025. The purpose of Local Law #4 of 2022, Local Law #5 of 2023 and this Local Law is to promote and protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the Village of Lindenhurst, by enacting a local law which establishes a moratorium on Massage Parlors and Foot Spas in the Business District for a period of one year.
The Village of Lindenhurst has put forth a significant effort to support and revitalize the Business District. As part of these efforts, the Village has completed numerous infrastructure improvements to attract business and enhance the appearance of the downtown, including the addition of brick pavers, road reconstruction, drainage, parking, decorative street lightning, planters, and recreational and cultural opportunities. Numerous new projects have enhanced the appearance and character of the Business District Village wide. The Board of Trustees has also enacted certain zoning amendments to create a more desirable and attractive Business District including the addition of multiple family residences. The Board of Trustees finds that careful consideration is also required to ensure the compatibility of the Business District with the surrounding residential community. The competitive local business environment is spawning more and more businesses, in particular, a proliferation of business whose primary business purpose is massage. The Board is concerned that given the Business District’s close proximity to residential areas, certain businesses of this nature are of such a character that they will detrimentally impact the quality of life of the surrounding businesses and residences. The Board finds that such uses are often the source of criminal activity, such as unlicensed practice and prostitution resulting in quality of life complaints. These complaints negatively impact the community. As such, particular consideration must be given as to the regulation of massage related business operations.
The Board of Trustees enacted the moratorium so that it might have sufficient opportunity to evaluate the permitted uses in the Business District and determine whether the use of Massage Parlors and Foots Pas should be statutorily amended, altered, modified, expanded or repealed as part and parcel of a plan to continue to revitalize the are without negatively impacting the community. The moratorium is set to expire on September 30, 2024, and must be extended to allow the aforestated review to continue. An extension of the moratorium would also permit the consider whether buffer zones or distance
restrictions are appropriate to avoid proliferation of this use and encourage diversity in the Business District. This moratorium will provide an opportunity for the Village Board of Trustees to evaluate the Code changes needed without the possibility of new businesses opening that might conflict with the plan being developed. The Village Board has, therefore, determined that a moratorium be established prohibiting any new uses which business purpose is massage in the Business District. This moratorium shall be geographically limited in application to all properties within the Business District zoning classification. In establishing this moratorium, the Board has also considered:
1. The need for conserving the value of buildings and land and the need to encourage the most appropriate use of land.
2. The need to attract retail business of such a diverse character as to encourage, foster and promote the revitalization of the Business District while at the same time mitigating any detrimental impact on surrounding residential properties.
3. The need to ensure adequate parking and lessen congestion while balancing the need for business growth. 4. To provide adequate light and air.
5. To ensure physical compatibility with surrounding uses.
6. The need to reduce noise, litter, traffic, and lighting which detrimentally impacts residential areas adjoining Business District property.
7. To encourage historic preservation.
Section 2. Prohibitions.
Any massage related use in the Business District which is open for customers, or clientele excluding those previously approved within the Business District.
Section 3. Exemptions.
This local law shall not apply to those businesses whose ancillary purpose includes massage, such as a gym or salon or those approved prior to the effective date of this local law to the extent such uses are not in compliance herewith and otherwise legally permitted.
Section 4. Imposition of Moratorium.
a. For a period of one year from and after the effective date of this law, no application for the construction, erection, maintenance, or change of use to a use which is prohibited herein may be filed, accepted, or processed. For the purpose of this law, an application shall be deemed to mean any request for official action by the Board of Trustees, or other boards,

“In the fight against Alzheimer’s, each step counts, which is why we are encouraging everyone to walk with us on September 28,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s President & CEO. “The funds and awareness raised will make a tremendous difference for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia-related illnesses in their time of need. We are grateful to Dwight Gooden for serving as our honorary Alzheimer’s Ambassador for the event and invite everyone to help us strikeout Alzheimer’s.”
“When I was invited to be an Ambassador for this Walk, I immediately said yes because I know about the impact that Alzheimer’s disease has on many families. I am excited to help spread awareness and be a part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Walk to raise funds to help families impacted by this disease and to fund research for a cure,” said Dwight Gooden. “I encourage everyone to join us on September 28th as we attempt to strike out Alzheimer’s disease.”
Walkers who fundraise at least $100 can meet Dwight Gooden and receive an autographed baseball. Those fundraising $250 or more will also receive a professional photo opportunity with the former Cy Young Award winner and World Series champion with the Mets and Yankees.
Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Locally, approximately 410,000 New Yorkers, including an estimated 60,000 Long Islanders, are living with Alzheimer’s disease, a number which is projected to grow in the years ahead.

In the meantime, here are a few tips to help you stay warm this fall.
• Consider weather-stripping windows and doors to keep drafts at bay.
• Clean out your gutters to prevent ice dams.
• Install a smart thermostat to manage your home’s temperature ef ciently.
• Have your furnace checked, and stock up on rewood for cooler nights by the replace or outdoor repit.
Have a wonderful and ful lling autumn season. I hope to see all of you around town!
