BISHOP BRENNAN - As part of the closing for the Lindenhurst St, Patrick’s Day 2023 Parade press conference and the announcement of Bishop Robert Brennan as Grand Marshal, the Council presented the 4th-Degree Assembly #716 emblem! The 4th Degree represents the patriotic arm of the Knights of Columbus and lead the Color Guard in the parade, along with special events at Anthem Corner. Bishop Brennan has been a Knight for over 40 years and now is responsible for the Diocese of Brooklyn. He also selected OLPH St Vincent de Paul as the charity for the parade. We will be smiling every day until March 25, 2023!

Stanley Barany Sr. was born in Hungary in 1943. At the age of thirteen he, along with his brother and parents, escaped the revolution and came to America. Stanley later began working at a bakery, which was close to a monument company where he eventually landed a new job. As he quickly picked up the trade and excelled in all his work there, to his surprise he started to realize he was an artist (at the time all monument creation was done by hand). In the 1960s, Stanley proudly opened Heart 2 Heart in Lindenhurst, where he offered inscriptions and monuments. This changed to R. Barany Monuments, Inc. when Randy took over. His company wasn’t the only success in his life, as Stanley became the father of four children over the years. At one point or another, all four sons worked at the business with their father. Randy, his youngest son, first started working with his dad at the age of eight. However, as a young child he didn’t understand the significance of their work, until a single moment forever changed and guided his life. While at

a cemetery as a young child he had been running around the stones and just being a kid. His father called him over and said to him, “Listen son, all these people are someone’s family, you cannot play like this. You need to treat every stone you ever touch or work on as if it was my stone.” This stuck with Randy throughout his entire career and the company’s mottos later became, “Let our family help your family” and “Walk in as a customer but leave as family”.

Randy worked for his dad for about twenty years. Since he was the youngest, he never imagined that one day he would own and take over the business. However, as things became more digital, in reference to design work for their products, Randy became more involved in the progression of the company’s direction. He and his brother Scott stayed at the company with their father. When Randy took over, their mother Margaret and Scotts son, Scott Jr., joined the team as well.

In 2012, Randy took over the company and kept Scott on as one of the best layout and blasters in the business.

Scott had started working

for his dad at the age of eighteen and now has been in this industry well over thirty years, having called out sick only twice in his career. Scott’s son has also joined the family business.

Village Of Lindenhurst Centennial Ball Drop

The Village of Lindenhurst and the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce held the Village’s first ever New Year’s Eve ball drop in honor of its 100th anniversary. Despite the rain, the event was incredibly successful thanks to all of the hard work by the various Village departments and the Chamber of Commerce. The event featured live music by The Good Life, free hot chocolate donated by the Moose Lodge, and free hats and noisemakers.

The New Year’s Eve ball was constructed by Chivvis Enterprises, owned and operated by a staple of our community – the Chivvis family. Assisted by the Lindenhurst Fire Department, the ball was lowered shortly before 9:00 PM and concluded with confetti and fireworks.

Mayor Lavorata stated, “Lindenhurst pride was on full display as we ushered in our centennial with this excellent celebration! I look forward to many more

events this year to celebrate this milestone in our Village’s history.”

The Charity of the Month for January is Pal-O-Mine Equestrian

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is a local non-profit organization that began in 1995 as a therapeutic horseback riding program for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week - and they continue to grow today!

“Our mission has been, and continues to be, to provide a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing,” said Lisa Gatti, Founder and CEO of Pal-O-Mine Equestrian. “We proudly serve individuals with disabilities, those who have been abused or neglected, the military and the impoverished.”

Their location in Islandia offers an unequaled setting for equestrian activities, with a 20-stall barn on 13 acres, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-the-art-footing and a rider hoisting system, 3 outdoor riding arenas, classrooms, accessible playground, a greenhouse and a wellness center.

Looking back on 2022, Pal-O-Mine logged 4,250 hours of Volunteer Hours and 86,400 Client Contact Hours. “2022 was about inspiring one another to reach common goals and emerging stronger,” said Lisa. “Our volunteers are an integral part of the day to day

operations at Pal-O-Mine. We all work together to serve our clients the best we can.”

They also aded four new animals to their gang; three horses and a Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog, Luca who is a natural at his job of watching over the herd. Bubba, one of the horses was generously donated to them by the Morris Family. He is an amazing lesson horse and is a client favorite in their equine yoga program. Another one of the horses is Alana, a pro at teaching new students to ride independently. Lastly, Sunflower is their newest horse, which is enjoying to learn about all the different programs held at Pal-O-Mine.

Lindenhurst Appoints Assistant Superintendent For Human Resources And Personnel

At the Nov. 2 meeting of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District Board of Education, Bret Kearney was appointed as the districts’ new assistant superintendent for human resources and personnel.

Mr. Kearney held the position of assistant superintendent for special education and pupil personnel services at Lindenhurst Union Free School District since July 2016. In this position Mr. Kearney was responsible for the coordination, hiring, evaluating and tenuring of all special education and

pupil personnel services employees, including administrators, teachers, nurses and related service providers. Additionally, he served as the CSE chairperson, assessed and adjusted district staffing needs for pupil personnel services and special education, created and implemented the special education budget and coordinated professional development for staff.

Prior to his time as the assistant superintendent for special education and pupil personnel services Mr. Kearney served as

the assistant principal of Lindenhurst High School for two years. He also served as a special education integrated co-teacher at Lindenhurst Middle School for one year and was a social studies teacher at Lindenhurst High School from 2004 to 2013.
