Farmingdale Schools’ New Teacher Orientation Sets The Stage For

Students aren’t the only ones who must prepare for the first day of class. Teachers do, too! Farmingdale Schools welcomed over thirty newly appointed educators to the district.

A three-day New Teacher Orientation—hosted at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School and led by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Dr. Jennifer Olsen provided new educators with the opportunity to meet key staff and learn about a range of topics, from school culture and curriculum standards to safety and digital technology in the classroom.

The orientation included interactive workshops where new teachers engaged in collaborative activities and discussions about effective teaching strategies. Veteran teachers were on hand to offer firsthand advice and support their new colleagues.

Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources

Michael Ferretti led the group on a school bus tour that began with a ride down Farmingdale’s Main Street. The bus tour familiarizes the new educators with the community and work facilities. They traveled to all six schools in the district, and building principals shared insights about their respective schools. By the end of the orientation, the new teachers felt confident and prepared to start the school year. The district looks forward to seeing the positive impact these dedicated educators will have on the Farmingdale community.

Teachers will officially head back to the classroom on September 3. The first day of school in Farmingdale School District is September 5.

In a concerted effort to safeguard senior citizens from increasingly prevalent scams, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino are partnering to host a series of educational seminars this fall. The initiative aims to equip seniors and their caregivers with the knowledge and tools necessary to recognize, report, and combat fraudulent schemes.

D.A. Donnelly & Supervisor Saladino Partner To Protect Seniors From Scammers

Senior citizens, often targeted due to their limited familiarity with modern technology and scam tactics, face heightened risks of manipulation. Factors such as loneliness and medicationrelated vulnerabilities can exacerbate their susceptibility. Recognizing these challenges, District Attorney Donnelly and Supervisor Saladino are committed to providing essential information and resources to help protect the

senior community.

• The seminars will cover a range of topics including: Common scam tactics and how to identify them Steps to take if you suspect a scam

• Practical strategies for safeguarding personal information

• Resources for reporting fraudulent activities

These informative sessions will be held at community

centers throughout the Town of Oyster Bay, ensuring easy access for residents. The fall schedule includes:

• Friday, September 20th at 2:30pm at the SyossetWoodbury Community Center, 7800 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury

• Friday, September 27th at 2pm at Marjorie Post Park Community Center, Unqua & Merrick Roads, Massapequa.

“Protecting our seniors is a

top priority,” said Supervisor Saladino. “By working with District Attorney Donnelly, we are taking proactive steps to ensure that our elderly community members are informed and empowered against deceitful tactics.”

District Attorney Donnelly stated, “My office is dedicated to combating fraud using all the tools at our disposal, and community engagement is vital to keeping Nassau County safe. Through these educational seminars,

seniors will learn how to spot the warning signs of a scam and, most importantly, protect themselves and their finances. Working together with leaders like Supervisor Saladino, we can fight back against senior scams across our county and blunt their impact on our most vulnerable residents.”

Residents are encouraged to attend these seminars to gain valuable insights and share the information with family and friends.

A Crema Above The Rest

Sen. Martinez Nominates Farmingdale Coffee Company For Business Award In Recognition Of Its Work To Tamper Long Island Hunger

Pintail Coffee Inc. has been named a finalist for this year’s Minority Business Award by the Business Council of New York State. The Farmingdale-based company is one of only five businesses across the state to be considered for the award, which will be presented during the council’s annual meeting on Sept. 19, 2024, at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing. New York State Sen. Monica R. Martinez nominated the philanthropic company, which donates 100% of its profits to fight hunger in local communities, for the award.

“Pintail Coffee Inc. exemplifies what it means to be a community-

driven business, making an impact far beyond its roastery,” said Sen. Martinez. “The company’s commitment to donating all profits to hunger relief is a testament to the power of purpose-driven entrepreneurship. I am proud to have nominated it for this well-deserved recognition.”

Founded by a diverse group of minority immigrants led by Zaki Hossain, Pintail Coffee is a mission-driven company dedicated to ending hunger, one cup at a time. Locally roasted, ground, and packaged, each batch of Pintail’s high-quality Arabica beans is carefully crafted to deliver the perfect brew. Sourced responsibly from high-

altitude farms across the globe, these beans not only produce a rich, full-bodied flavor but also support sustainable farming practices. For consumers committed to social good, every cup poured blends purpose with exceptional taste, contributing directly to the fight against hunger.

The Business Council of New York State, Inc., is the state’s leading business organization, representing a wide array of companies and associations. Established in 1980, the council advocates for a better business climate in New York, promoting economic growth and job creation while providing valuable resources and support to its members.
