LI Against Domestic Violence The Town Of Babylon & Suffolk County Law Enforcement Agencies Unite For Kickball For A Cause To Combat Domestic Violence
LI Against Domestic Violence (LIADV) is partnering with the Town of Babylon and Suffolk County Law Enforcement Agencies for a unique event - Kickball for a Cause: Battle of the Badges. The event, taking place September 27th at Venetian Shores Park in Lindenhurst, kicks off Domestic Violence Awareness Month and is intended to raise awareness of domestic violence; an issue that impacts thousands of adults, children & companion animals throughout Suffolk County each year.
“Kickball for a Cause is not just a game, but a powerful statement of unity” said Wendy Linsalata, Executive Director of LI Against Domestic Violence. “We are so appreciative of the support of Babylon Town Councilman Terence McSweeney & the Town of Babylon. We are joining forces with our longtime partners to bring light to the often-hidden issue of domestic violence”.
LIADV has been providing essential services to survivors for over 48 years by offering a 24-hour hotline, shelter services, court and precinct advocacy services, counseling, and vocational advocacy services. The organization also focuses on prevention through educational programming in both schools and businesses. Kickball for a Cause is a shining example of LIADV’s commitment to raising awareness and building community partnerships to address this pressing issue.
“I’m excited to collaborate with LIADV to support fundraising efforts for individuals facing difficult circumstances. By empowering victims and survivors, offering them
shelter and assistance, and collaborating with law enforcement, we can ensure they know there is help available” said Babylon Town Councilman Terrence McSweeney.
“Domestic violence casts a long shadow across our communities, often hidden behind closed doors. This kickball event shines a vital light on an issue that demands our attention and action. By coming together as a community, we send a powerful message that abuse will not be tolerated, and help is available. I commend L.I. Against Domestic Violence for their tireless efforts to raise awareness and provide resources to those in need” said District Attorney Ray Tierney.
“The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office is proud to have a strong partnership with LI Against Domestic Violence and honored to support their vital work. Domestic violence remains a critical issue in our community that is often shrouded in silence. Events like this kickball tournament play a crucial role in raising awareness and bringing our community together to confront this problem. I encourage everyone to come out, support this important cause, and cheer on our dedicated law enforcement officers and our LIADV partners,” said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr.
“Domestic Violence involves a cycle of abuse that not only impacts the victim but the entire family—often occurring quietly behind closed doors. The Department’s Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse Bureau works tirelessly to ensure domestic incidents are addressed through a comprehensive approach of both enforcement
and outreach so victims receive justice and services. I commend LI Against Domestic Violence for hosting Kickball for a Cause, bringing law enforcement together to raise awareness for this crime that has too many suffering in silence” said Acting Suffolk County Police Commissioner Robert Waring. Come out and cheer for your favorite team!
Admission is $10 per person (free for those 12 and under). Together, we can take a stand against domestic violence and make a difference in the lives of thousands who are impacted by this serious public health crisis.
Venetian Shores Park is located at 850 Venetian Blvd. Lindenhurst.

KIDS COLORING CONTEST!
Autism And Children
According to the National Autism Association, autism is a bio-neurological developmental disability that affects the normal development of the brain in various areas. Those areas include social interaction, communication skills and cognitive function. Autism generally appears before a child reaches his or her third birthday, and the NAA notes it is diagnosed four times as often in boys than it is in girls. Roughly 40 percent of children with autism do not speak, but parents whose children speak between the ages of
12 and 18 months should know that such youngsters can still ultimately be diagnosed with autism. In such instances, the NAA notes that children lose the words they previously learned. Incidences of autism appear to be on the rise, though the reasons for that remain unclear. According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the prevalence of autism had risen to one in every 59 children by 2018. That’s twice as great as the rate in 2004, when the CDC reported one in 125 children were diagnosed with autism.

The Differences Between Weather Warnings And Watches
Weather is hard to predict. Meteorologists have many tools at their disposal to help forecast storms and other phenomena, but it is impossible to predict the weather with 100 percent accuracy.
When the weather takes a turn for the worse, the National Weather Service may issue certain notices to prepare the public. Understanding the level of threat a
notice carries can help people take appropriate action and avoid serious consequences.
The NWS uses a fourtier system to alert the public of hazards. Here’s a closer look at what each tier constitutes.
Outlook
This is the least serious weather alert. It usually means that hazardous weather may approach in the next three to
seven days. The public should monitor the situation and stay tuned for further updates.
Advisory
With an advisory, weather conditions are not overly serious but could prove inconvenient. Individuals should be cautious and prudent when preparing supplies or traveling.
Watch
During a weather watch, there is an increased risk of a hazardous weather occurrence, though the timing or location is still uncertain. This is when it is essential to practice an evacuation or preparedness plan and stock up on any lastminute supplies.
Warning
The most serious of
the weather impact notifications, a warning constitutes an imminent or likely event. The weather may cause a threat to property or life. Immediate action to stay safe is necessary. While these alerts are based on the severity of impending weather, it is important to note that the NWS will not necessarily follow the same timeline with issuing alerts. That
depends on how fast a weather situation develops. If there is time, an advisory, then a watch and then a warning may be issued. However, if a storm moves in rapidly, only a warning may be issued. People always should pay attention to weather notices so they can be prepared should severe weather be in the forecast.

Making Fall Foliage Trips More Enjoyable
Millions of people each year look forward to the magnificent colors on display in autumn. Fall offers irreplaceable views, whether you’re atop a mountain ridge or thick in the folds of a forest. In addition, the crackle of leaves underfoot and the earthy smell of the soil tempts the senses even more. Some advance planning can help make fall foliage trips that much more enjoyable and awe-inspiring.
PEAK VIEWING TIMES
Areas of the northernmost latitude will start to show color earlier than more southern areas. Generally, the leaf-viewing season begins in late September and runs through early November for much of
North America. Peak times for viewing depend on areas of travel and time of year. The Weather Channel offers maps and charts at www. weather.com/maps/fallfoliage for tpeak times for many areas of the U.S.
PICK YOUR ESTINATION
Anywhere with deciduous trees provides the opportunity to witness blazing autumn color. During leaf-peeping season, travelers can go coast to coast and see awesome vistas. Some regions are particularly known for their leaf displays. New York’s Catskill and Adirondack regions are prime spots for visitors in the autumn. The travel resource Frommer’s offers more leaf-peeping
locales to visit.
PACK THE RIGHT GEAR
While most people are not without a smartphone that can capture amazing high-resolution imagery, serious leaf photographers may want to take out their prized camera equipment for leaf-peeping excursions. Also bring along a map or a GPS-enabled device so you can explore back roads and areas off the beaten path more readily. There are plenty of apps that can help with foliage-finding adventures, so a phone is a handy tool. When packing, also bring along hiking boots, comfortable layered clothing and anything for an afternoon in the great outdoors.
