The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers homeowners the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, a fantastic opportunity to save money while making your home more eco-friendly. You can claim a tax credit of up to $3,200 for qualifying energy-efficient improvements installed on or after January 1, 2023.
So, what does this mean for you? In simple terms, for every dollar you spend on qualified energy-efficient improvements, you can reduce your tax liability, up to the specified limit. However, keep in mind that these upgrades must be new products and materials that meet specific energy-efficiency standards to qualify.
Exterior doors that meet applicable standards can qualify for the energy tax credit. You can claim 30% of the project cost, up to $250 per door, with a total limit of $500.
Upgrade to energy-efficient windows to not only reduce your energy bills but also claim tax credits. Homeowners can receive 30% of project costs, up to $600, in tax credits.
The energy tax credit allows homeowners to recover 30% of the costs, up to $1,200, for improving home insulation. This credit can come from attic insulation, wall insulation, or exterior insulation that is placed behind the siding of your home.
If you are looking to take advantage of these tax credits, Unified Home Remodeling has Energy Star approved products and installers to ensure you get the most bang for your buck.

George Gershwin’s song “Summertime,” from “Porgy and Bess,” offers: Summertime and the livin’ is easy Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high Summer can be a magical season full of fresh air, warm days and nights, blooming flowers, and plenty of opportunities to spend time in the great outdoors. There are so many ways to fill summer days, and people are urged to maximize time spent outdoors during this time of year. Since the sun’s rays can be particularly harmful between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., protective clothing and sunscreen is recommended during this time; otherwise, people can engage in outdoor activities during times when the sun is less potent. Those seeking some summertime recreation inspiration can consider these activities.
Outdoor Activities Ideal For Summertime
• Family bike ride: Explore trails or bike paths in the area in advance, and then prepare bikes for an excursion. Bicycle riding is a great cardiovascular activity that people of all ages and fitness levels can enjoy. Try flat paths for beginners, and then build up the length and intensity of rides as experience is gained.
• Day at the beach: Some attest there is no more perfect place than the beach on a summer day. The waves lapping the sand, the birds calling in the air, and the sounds of children’s laughter and sunbathers’ chatter all combine to create a relaxing seaside symphony. According to WebMD, the negative ions given off by the ocean can improve mood and add
to the calming effect the beach provides.
• Backyard obstacle course: Construct an obstacle course in the backyard that everyone can try. It can include having to jump through tires; climb a jungle gym; run through a sprinkler; and crawl under a low-hung clothesline. Family
members can compete to see who can finish the course in the least amount of time.
• Walk a boardwalk: Those lucky to live near a coast can spend an afternoon or evening strolling the boardwalk, enjoying the various fare and fun activities offered. Many boardwalks have games of chance and
small rides for kids. Adults may enjoy the restaurants, bars and shops. Of course, no trip to a boardwalk is complete without coming home with some saltwater taffy.
• Hike: In a survey of Americans 18 and older conducted by the National Recreation and Park Association, nearly 50 percent said
going for a walk or hike was their favorite outdoor summer activity. Hiking requires very little to get started and can produce numerous opportunities to witness nature and get some exercise.
There’s no limit to the ways people can enjoy the great outdoors when the weather warms up.

Reworld™ Employees Join Forces To Combat Hunger Through Nationwide Initiative
Reworld™ recently helped package more than 382,175 pounds of donated, nonperishable food items to be delivered to local food pantries throughout Long Island. This initiative was part of the company’s extensive contribution to Island Harvest Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) annual Stamp Out Hunger food collection campaign. This generous effort took place at a local warehouse in Hauppauge where volunteers worked tirelessly to prepare the collected items for distribution to local food pantries.

“Seeing the dedicated employees from Reworld™ come together to support Stamp Out Hunger is heartwarming,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president & CEO, Island Harvest. “When companies come together to support missions such as ours, it strengthens the community ties that are crucial for tackling pressing societal issues like hunger on Long Island and demonstrates what we can accomplish when we unite for a common cause.”
Stamp Out Hunger is the nation’s largest single-day food drive and is held on the second Saturday in May. Last year the initiative helped supplement approximately 300,00 meals for families in need across Long Island. This effort helped provide supplemental food support to food-insecure people in our local communities, and is reflective of the ongoing commitment Reworld™ has to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Reworld™ employees actively engaged in the sorting and lifting of hundreds of food packages, demonstrating a joint commitment in supporting this vital cause.
The nationwide effort is organized by the NALC in partnership with the United States Postal Service and food banks across the country, including Island Harvest on Long Island. Postal customers were encouraged to leave nonperishable food donations by their mailboxes, which was then picked up by letter carriers along their routes and delivered to a central warehouse in Hauppauge where teams of
volunteers, including dedicated employees from Reworld™ who worked tirelessly to sort and package the donated food to help restock local food pantries that typically see a marked decrease in donations during the summer months.
“It’s inspiring to see our team come together for such a powerful cause,” said Maureen Early, Lead Community Relations Specialist at Reworld™. “Our participation in Stamp Out Hunger is a testament to the dedication to making a tangible impact in every community we serve. Reworld™ is proud to support this initiative and help provide meals to those in need right here on Long Island.”
Reworld™ continues to support various community and environmental programs, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to fostering positive change both locally and globally. For more information about Reworld™ and their community initiatives, please visit www.reworldwaste. com.
