DIRECTIVE ATEX 94/9/EC • The ATEX directive EC/94/9 describe new guidelines for explosion proof material manufacturer and end user.

The ATEX Directive 94/9/EC is applied in 1st July 2003, after this date only materials complying with this directive could be sold and used in the European Community.

HAZARDOUS AREAS DEFINITIONS EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERE It is a mixture, in air, of flammable vapour, fog or dust which, after the explosion, is propaged to the unburnt explosive mixture.

MAIN REQUIREMENTS OF ATEX DIRECTIVE

An explosive atmosphere may be present either as during normal operation or the result of an incident such - Mechanical failure (pump, valve, sensor, etc..)

Either the conformity of the product (by CE type approval) and the quality management system of the manufacturer is under the control of the notified body (Ex INERIS) The CE marking on product means that the product comply the ATEX directive but also to the Machine Directive, CEM , etc...

- The ATEX directive makes the distinction between the dangerous areas with: • Explosive vapour (letter G= gas) or and • Explosive dust (letter D=Dust) The certification procedure is different for this two materials and the corresponding marking also.

New designing and manufacturing rules are applied to maximize the safety level of ATEX materials during all their working life.

Working conditions of protected materials are mostly considered such as humidity, vibration, pollution, voltage peaks.

The Fail Safe condition is applied to the main safety components.

ZONE 2 IIB T4 PROTECTION - SAFEX System CATEGORY 3G ELECTRIC FORKLIFT comply with ATEX directive 94/9/EC 1- Electrical components such as motors, controllers and switches are EEx nR protected by enclosures to avoid an immediate gas penetration.

2- Thermal switches are placed on each motor. Temperature setting is T4 - 135째C. If a high temperature occur, the corresponding motor is stopped.

At 10% of LEL, a visual alarm is provided on the control box.

At 20% of LEL, an audible and visual alarm is provided to go out the area.

At 25% of LEL, the main contactor stop the truck by disconnecting the battery.
