toLearningfly YEAR2021-22BOOK

Things are normalizing. High school was nearly F2F all year, Middle school mostly F2F, and even Primary got nearly half the year F2F. This meant a return to learning culture, and the rich fabric of school life, including sports, drama, music, clubs, inter school events, in-school or parent exhibitions for PYPx, TOK, Eureka, learning journeys for vaccinated cohorts, three board exams in parallel for the first time, and at the end our first F2F graduation for our third graduating cohort. The return to school life was a welcome relief for teachers who thrive on the relationships, feedback, questions, eye contact and body language of learners. The online world gave us learning continuity but intellectual well being is incomplete without emotional and social well being. COVID and online learning amplified children’s social-emotional challenges, loneliness and digital safety. It made us ask the basic question; what is learning? Our definition of desired learning has finally evolved to 5 pillars; self directed learning, disciplinary thinker, communicator, collaborator and community builder. We will spend many years building curriculum, teacher capability and student reflection with parent commitment. The year also ended with a bittersweet farewell to North Campus for our PYP, with students and teachers set to move to Yemalur next year.

HEAD OF THE SCHOOL

COVID made the last two years difficult for everybody; teachers, students and parents. But every community member seems to have followed - consciously or unconsciously - the wonderful advice from the Bhagavad gita Karmanye Vadikaraste, Maa Phaleshu Kadaach Na, Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey, Sangostva Akarmani (focus on your efforts and results will follow)

The 2022-23 Calendar represents a paradigm shift in community engagement with parents, students, faculty, and other schools with more sports, more choice, more travel, more service, and more holistic learning, more clubs, inter and intra school events. Our physical spaces in senior school are changing for opportunities to explore interests and build passions. This will help kids use time at school building leadership, artistic talent, reading, sportsmanship, service, writing, and much much more. Student government is a serious initiative, and will hopefully grow to significant impact next year. We end the year reminding students that there are many definitions of success and everyone succeeds. But finding who you are is a continuous exploration of developing abilities and Neevinterests.aimsto change the status quo in education by building a school that is idealistic, honest, and ethical so our learners can be the same. Our children do well at academics but must fight the precociousness foisted upon them by a rapidly changing world by recognizing their privilege, questioning their impact with authenticity, and recognizing the rat race without looking down on it. Neev hopes to do this by asking more of our learners, teachers and parents. As a song goes - May the road rise up to meet you, may the rain fall gently on your fields, and may the sun shine warm your face. Khuda apko Mahfooz rakhe.

Let’s stay together to solve future challenges that we may face as a community.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-2274

As educators, we envisioned our role to create the conditions for growth, development, and learning to happen. When we get it right we discover that all along we have been in the miracle business, and it’s honestly the only business to be in. So what separates us from the rest of life on Earth is our power of imagination, the ability to bring to mind things that are not present to our senses. It is imagination that allows us to create the world in which we live, rather than just exist in it. It also gives us the power to recreate it. Can we reimagine the world together?

‘Learn for Life’ is a value and a skill we nurture. Through the pandemic every member of our community – academic and non-academic staff, students and parents reflected the attitude of continuous learning and striving to be better in all that we do. We constantly ensured to remain relevant and significant despite the uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity that prevails around us. All of this was possible for us, as we live in a community that fosters positivity to make a difference in the lives of every student. Let’s embrace each other's strengths. This is exactly one generation of young people who have gone to school during the pandemic, people who have had a life-defining experience and survived it with resilience. We productively use this moment in history to understand what truly constitutes learning. So, let’s celebrate the resilience of our students and our educators. This year moving to hybrid learning and seeing more than 92% of our students attending physical school significantly shifted students’ social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. The relationships built on trust and respect between peers and with teachers became stronger. Physical well-being through sports, and games developed stamina and inner strength. Re-envisioning purposeful and meaningful learning experiences stretched students' ability as learners. The students became more responsible for their learning and for their lives, thus, amplifying student agency. We need to take care of the whole child and the whole teacher and thus travel and learn together at the direction of the children more than ever. The most promising path forward is to be focused, persevere and give our best.

Shanthi Raghunath Head PYP

As we reflect on the year(s) passed by, my thoughts as part of reflection and learning from the last couple of years are summarized in two themes. I would like to first acknowledge the critical role played by each of the member of Neev school community; from the teachers and school leaders to those working in the admissions office, IT office, Facility dept, Transport and support staff and most importantly the parent community who are the partners in the learning and development of their child, our children! Sincere gratitude to the entire Neev community.

The second thing - thinking of the ‘why’ of school, why do schools exist? What’s the purpose of schools? What is the role of education after seeing the pandemic and the uncertainty we faced as the ‘Change’ in our lives ? To me, we are “a school which nurtures who you are, shapes your identity, and helps you envision a future. It is a learning environment that nurtures ideas, and collaboration, develops skills for learning and growth, and above all, gives a sense of community and purpose”. Can we develop an ecosystem of students, parents, and teachers that convene around a single and inspiring goal of ‘nurturing good humans’? So what do we need to do differently? What change do we need to bring to move from good to great? How might we work cohesively as students, parents, and teachers around a single and inspiring goal of nurturing good humans! An important thought shared by sir Ken Robinson said in his last book, the manifesto, Imagine if..., “In human communities, as in the natural world, miracles happen every day and are essential for flourishing.”

THE RUN

Slowly and steadily. Running mile after mile. In the course of the journey. Filled with obstacles. They set themselves free. Free to run. Run their thoughts. Run their imagination. Into the wild. Nothing to stop them. They run together. Into a world of their own. Where their wings have grown. And now they are ready. To give their imagination. The flight it deserves. And enter the next chapter of learning.

Getting emotional by thinking about what's next, but first, we need to pose for the camera! Ending the day on a good note. NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22126Together we climbed, together we stood! Flashback

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22127BTS before the class photograph The dynamic batch of Neev' Together22we stand Squad goals!

There's something poetically ironic about starting off 11th grade with online school, thinking it's finally over, then having our last 3 days online in one, final plot twist. 2 years is a long time - and I can't tell if online school made it feel longer or shorter. Days blended into one another, and when I reflect, it feels like a blur and an eternity at the same time. As for everyone I had the chance to meet in the last 2 years, I'm so happy that I got to go through IB with you. While attempting to avoid common cliches, I will say that we really pulled through this as a class. There's nothing more comforting than hearing from someone else that they're also overdue on the same assignment. That brings me to the IB. Whether or not I regret taking the IB is a debate I constantly have with myself - but I can sum it up like this. Would I do it again? Absolutely not, but I'm still glad I did it. IB showed me that I'm stronger and more capable than I ever thought I was, and this made it special to me. Juggling IAs, college essays and trying to keep my grades up was a unique challenge, one that took me almost 2 whole years to adapt to - but I (sort of) did it in the end.

Although everyone was special to me, I'd like to thank some people before I sign off. Aalam, you've been the sweetest, most enthusiastic best friend I could have ever asked for. Maith, you were a source of stability for when I had no idea what I was doing. Amshul, you've been an absolute legend who I could talk to at any time about anything. Kriti, your cat addiction was sometimes refreshing (although generally annoying). Miss Vidya, you've been the most insightful, entertaining and chilled out form tutor I could ask for. To all of my teachers, you believed in me when I didn't believe in myself I hope I haven't been too annoying My first thought was to put this through something like Grammarly or run it by someone, but I decided against it - I chose to submit a simple, unedited, unfiltered, unpolished reflection to preserve the purity of the feelings that I got to reexperience when writing this reflection.

Lastly, I would like to thank all the teachers. Thank you for putting up with us, thank you for teaching us, thank you for all the discussions in class, and more importantly, thank you for giving us a love for learning. Words cannot express exactly how great of an impact you had on our lives,

Aalam Sultanji 12 years. 4380 days. That’s how long it has been since I started my educational journey. While my education will continue in the university, I cannot call myself a school student anymore. And that hits home. But, as we would question in ToK, what is home? How do we define home? Is it the place we grow up in? Is it the place we learn how to be human? Is it the place that has the greatest impact on us? In all three cases, the answer is school. I joined Neev in 2020, under the looming, dark and grim umbrella of the pandemic. I would be lying if I said that it didn’t affect my social relationship with my new classmates. As all my classmates would now agree with me, I love movies. And growing up, I watched movies where the high school drama was immaculate. I wanted a high school like that. I wanted a high school experience where everybody starts out as awkward teenagers but then grows to be better friends and companions for life. I wanted a high school experience where the teachers were not just people who taught you the subject, but they taught you about life. I wanted a high school experience where the students were genuinely respected as equals. When I started at Neev, I got exactly that and more. And all the money in the world could not buy what I have gained through these 2 years. The online mode made me discover wonderful things. One of which was that someone who would now become my closest friend lived just 800m from my house. The guy who would geek out over Star Wars with me, discover and be entrapped by the thrill of F1 with me lived just 800m from me, and I found out about that 6 months into DP1. Aadit, thank you for putting up with my extra-ness. You’re a real one bro. I was going to write a very senti paragraph about how Maithreya was a very helpful friend, how he stayed with me in all 5/6 subjects that we had in common (more than anyone else in class lol), how he gives the best advice when it comes to all my drama, but that senti paragraph would not do him justice. So instead, this is more appropriate: *salutes*.

To all my classmates, I say thank you. Thank you for the A-MAZING (it wouldn’t be me without my favorite word, isn’t that right Miss Vidya?) time we had together, thank you for listening to me geek out over pop culture, thank you for sharing the stress of an RCB match, thank you for the Netflix-worthy high school drama that brought us closer together, but most importantly, thank you for being amazing people. While we will end up in different places later on, just know that I will never give you up, never let you down, never run around or desert you, Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you. (I had to do that, I’m sorry).

Aaradhita Varadarajan

The words “it's the people, not the place” have never made more sense than they do right now. Be it online or at school or on a mountain in the dark somewhere in the northeast, nothing felt unachievable because I knew I wasn’t alone in my struggles and was constantly accompanied by 23 other equally whiney, incessantly complaining teenagers who are adept at getting their way (or as close to it as possible) no matter the situation.

To Miss Bindu- thank you so much for always believing in me and pushing me to do my best. From the LOR to the innumerable IA check-ins to the hallway pep talks- your unwavering support made Chemistry HL feel a lot less impossible. To Babul Sir- thank you for being so very accommodating, be it with our EE deadlines, CAs, IAs or post-class discussions that ate well into your break time and for helping me recognise my passion for the subject, even outside the scope of the DP. To Colin Sir, thank you for making a 1600 word essay on truth and fact feel like a scalable target just as you did with the actual mountain in Nagaland despite my untiring attempts to quit. Thank you Girinath Sir for putting up with our crazy class of 4 (which more often than not was at 50% strength) and for helping me achieve my best in a subject I had no particular fondness for.

Firstly, for handling us, I believe Miss Vidya and Miss Sheena deserve a medal of honour because we did not make their jobs easier. But for us to be able to manage our workload, stress levels and frustration with a mere 15 minutes in the morning (which felt optional in the start but went on to become something everyone looked forward to), we have only them to thank. To Miss Sheena, thank you for helping me sift through the chaos that is IB psychology and for always looking out for me- at school, during breaks, while buying asthma medicines or otherwise. To Miss Vidya, thank you for your everlasting patience and for teaching me that a score is just a number and what matters most is to enjoy the subject itself.

Finally, to the whiney, complaining teenagers, I am so glad I got to meet you all and so grateful for all our memories, be it the mid-class breaks that lasted longer than they should have, the late-night games and conversations in Nagaland, the lunches in the cafeteria (with no regard for social distancing oops), the hourly rants on Chunky Munkeys, or the theories about the AC in room 313 and our little class pet (I hope you’re okay, Juan). I genuinely could not have asked for a better group of people to spend my last two years in high school with and it is something that we will carry with us forever. Miss Vidya and Miss Sheena, thank you for being the best form tutors we could have asked for. Thank you for listening to us stress out, thank you for giving us a voice of our own, and thank you for loving us and respecting us as individuals. We could not have finished the DP program without you both. That’s it from me. This is Aalam Sultanji, signing off. May the Force be with you, always.

Adweit Mahesh Gharat

When people used to say that you will miss school life at the end of grade 12, I thought they were joking. But as I am writing this in April, I say this is completely true. Some experiences like discord with Amshul on American truck Simulation or the Minecraft battle between me, Aadit, Amshul, and Aalam vs Sarah, Onkar, and Samah may never come back. That being said, I am finishing this chapter of my life and I am excited for whatever lies ahead of Adweitme.

Two years ago, we started school by looking at individual boxes with my classmates' faces through an application on my computer. The school duration was cut short to only 5 hours, but it felt tiring, looking at a screen, and attempting to decipher what the teacher was writing on the whiteboard. Even with these difficulties, my teachers and my friends made my experience sweeter. From cooking different dishes and posting them on Instagram and WhatsApp, to practicing yoga, in these two years, my experiences have been amazing and I was able to learn a lot about myself.

Mahesh Gharat

I’ve been at Neev for all but 1 year of my education. Yet, the last two, the most important years, I missed because they were online. The DP is hard enough without social distancing, but we Unlikesurvived.most people, I wasn’t too worried about the DP coming in, but I quickly realized that it wasn’t nearly as easy as I thought it would be. Without the incredible group of people who supported me through this journey, I’m not sure that I would have made it. Aadit (and his 4 terrible lines that I will never be able to forget), Aalam (and his unending energy), Adweit (the only one I could ever roast), Kriti (and her emotional drama), Ved (with his terrible but amazing jokes), thank you for always being there for me, helping me out and making the journey a lot more fun!

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22132

I’d like to thank Chethan sir for all the time he spent with us to make sure our IAs and EEs were done well, and for the time he spent with me to make sure I did well in the course itself, Miss Bindu for dealing with all our nonsense and making sure we understand the subject. Sunit sir, I’d like to thank you for always being fun and relatable. Hare Ram sir (and his legendary roasts) for his unending patience and willingness to explain. Miss Shiona for making an unnecessarily complex and unbearable language just that much easier, Merci Beaucoup, C’etait un voyage amusant (no, who said I used google translate?), and finally, I’d like to thank Colin sir for making sure I would never be able to enjoy Dan Brown ever again. For the past few months I’ve been looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life, now I’m dreading leaving this one behind. I’m not sure I’m ready to leave behind the bonds I’ve forged over the years, but I’m glad that the DP is finally over. The IB was a great adventure, I’ve really enjoyed the course through PYP and MYP, DP not so much (but that’s on me). If given the chance, I might just do it all over again.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22133

When I entered Neev for the first time, I was unsure of myself, of whether I would be able to make friends, and of whether I would even make it out alive. I mean, can you blame the ICSE student who had just crash-landed into a universe of criteria, strands, key concepts, related concepts, global contexts, grade boundaries, student presentations, laptops, calculators, and not to mention online exams?!

Safe to say, the MYP was only the trailer because the horror movie that followed suit was a nose-dive into another universe – ‘The DP: much harder, scarier, and far more stressful’. The proof that the DP was much harder than the MYP lies in the new acronyms that were added to our existing alphabet soup – in addition to ATLs, SOI, IDU, SAA, and PP, we now had IOA, IO, EE, TOK, CAS, IA, AO, SAT, and CA. I’m confident that the only reason I got through the past four years is the people I met along the way – my classmates, teachers, and juniors. They turned that horror movie into a not-so-petrifying adventure film. To my classmates and juniors: thanks Onkar and Aalam for always bringing a smile to my face with your humorous antics; thanks Amshul for letting me steal your laptop charger every day; thanks Adweit for the impromptu yoga lessons and for blessing my Instagram with pictures of your delicious food; thanks Guhar for ensuring the bus waits for me every day and for making sure I’m never running low on Starbucks caffeine; thanks Naviya for being the best roommate at TAISI (even though you ditched me half-way); thanks Rhea and Kriti for my daily dose of hugs and love; thanks Maith and Mehr for being the best President and Vice-President I could ask for; thanks Noor and Saania for literally always being there for me; thanks Tavisha for sitting on 6-hour long Zoom calls listening to my tireless rants, proof reading all my 49 colleges essays, and supporting me endlessly through all my ups and downs over the past two years; finally, thanks Sahay and Sanjana for your unwavering support, love, and friendship – couldn’t not have made it this far without you.

To my teachers: I will definitely miss being greeted by Miss Vidya’s and Miss Sheena’s warm smiles every morning, Sunit Sir’s fun and energetic classes (PS: I’m certain he also has a bright future ahead as a Bollywood actor or an Instagram influencer), Pravindra sir’s pre-class cricket match discussions, Krishnendu sir’s intense passion for chicken biryani and setting impossibly challenging math tests, and Miss Priya’s extra geography classes on weekends and personal project rants. I also want to thank Miss Bindu, who turned into my therapist and listened to my obscenely long rants throughout the MYP, and Miss Gouri, who quickly became my mentor, helping me navigate the choppy waters of the DP.

I would like to start by thanking all our teachers over these past few years - a school experience is nothing without the mentorship and guidance of teachers. Miss Sheena and Miss Vidya, thank you for dealing with our non-stop questions, absurd requests, and for helping us (sanely) get through TheDP-in-a-pandemiclastfouryears

Finally, while my future remains relatively uncertain, I know one thing for certain: I will never forget these experiences and memories, and I will always be grateful to Neev for helping me grow and expand my horizons.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22134

Guhar Goyal Class Rep, 21-22 There is something so (unfairly) poetic about the way we went between two of the biggest milestones in a high school student's journey - our first board exams in grade 10 to our grade 12 graduation - completely online. I think times have changed but we have changed with them. Doing the entire DP completely online and having to interact with new friends through a computer screen, is not what any of us could have expected our final years of high school would look like.

It has been nothing short of an absolute privilege to be your “class mom” this past year. Being elected class rep allowed me to connect with each and every person in our class and was the ultimate test of patience, communication, and a little bit of nagging. I hope I can continue to be the person you feel comfortable to rant and cry to, and I am excited to see where all of us end up after this unique journey. With motherly love, all the best to everyone!

While at Neev I have learnt so much more about myself, and it would be amiss if I did not credit the Student Government and the Sports Department for this.

that I have been at Neev have been some of the best years of my school journey and I have found acceptance and comfort in every nook and corner. I have gotten the opportunity to explore every aspect of my creativity - from singing with the Narmada lions in the battle of the bands to choreographing and performing Punjabi dances on language day. I will never forget how my first day of school at Neev was a two-week trip to Ladakh - quite literally forcing me to bond with the entire class. Each and every one of these trips has allowed me to strengthen my friendships and bonds with my classmates and this is one experience that I will truly miss.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22135

After being part of a batch of almost 150 kids for most of my life, it was a very interesting yet intimidating change moving to Neev. It’s almost weird how it seems like just yesterday we started as 24 clueless kids on zoom where everything was uncertain and here we are after 2 years of forming some of the most amazing friends, experiences, and bonds My time at Neev has taught me so much about the people around me, the community, and most importantly myself. When I first entered Neev I was extremely worried about whether the class would like me and if I would fit in at a new school with new people, especially since it was an online school due to the pandemic. All of these factors only heightened my emotions but very soon I met some of the most amazing people, who accepted every aspect of me and helped me grow into the person I am today. I’m so grateful for my classmates who truly made Neev a comfortable space for me.

Yours HarshiniTruly,

Harshini Abburi

Over the two years as a class we made some incredible memories from showing up to math class in a potato filter, sending everyone long voice messages, admiring the MSG trailer and cringe Indian serials, vibing to elite Punjabi music in the car, playing UNO on planes, Aadit and Aalam’s “there is a cow”, miss Sheena yelling “mummy” on the trek, Colin sirs dumbledore impression and of course the Revathi Thilana audio creating confusion and chaos on the last day. I cannot thank y’all enough for giving me a memorable high school experience despite the pandemic and drowning in IAs, EE, CAS, and college applications. Talking about IAs, EE, CAS, and College apps I will forever be indebted to my teachers. Thank you Ms. Bindu for constantly helping me with my IAs despite me changing them 5 times. Thank you Babul Sir for watering my plants throughout my EE and always leaving your doors open for my silly doubts. Thank you Ms. Rohini for helping me so much in Spanish and for all the little breaks/rants during class we truly needed them. Thank you Sunit Sir for keeping us entertained with your reels, and amazing life stories they made econ classes so special and unforgettable. Thank you Karan sir for listening to my rants about CAS and letting me barge into the art room whenever. And finally, thank you Ms. Sheena and Ms. Vidya for being such amazing, fun, and therapeutic form tutors and being there when we truly needed you, the both of you shaped our class into what it is today, A family and I couldn't have had asked for better parents than Ms. Viday and Ms. Sheena. Thank you again for everything.

Juhi Surana A journey started and ended on a zoom call.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22136

Transferring from MYP to DP was not that a big jump but it was definitely the biggest learning. Neev has given me some unforgettable experiences and introduced me to some outstanding teachers, for which I am very thankful. A personal shout out to Miss Vidya for being my calm in this thunderstorm and Sunit sir for demonstrating achieving excellence as a piece of the yummiest cake. I met many, and learnt from every. While some interactions taught me nothing much, some taught me everything that I know today. Some silences, some helping hands and some slaps helped me get self aware and cut out my path of resilience.

Coming from a cohort of 200 to being the 12th person in grade was the hardest pill to swallowbut it taught me how to make my place even in the smallest spaces. Being able to breathe easily here, makes me believe I can anywhere.

thank you to all the teachers who have guided me, encouraged me, and given me numerous opportunities (even when I didn't necessarily deserve them); I will always be grateful to you for shaping me into who I am. Miss Kavita and Miss Gouri, who have been role models to me through the years; Miss Vidya and Miss Sheena, who dealt with our chaos on a daily basis; Colin

The last few days of school are bittersweet, to say the least: they are colored by a spectrum of emotions in which it’s hard to tell the difference between excitement, nostalgia, relief, and angst. We find solace in graduation and earnest promises to stay in touch, but in reality, we are all thinking about our lasts. The last school test and the last fire drill. The last sports day and the last field trip. The last free lesson that we spend doing absolutely nothing and the last walk we take around campus. The last time that we belt out our favorite songs and the last time we help each other dodge the teachers whose assignments we haven’t yet completed. The last time we fight for our favorite seat in class and the last time we get yelled at for talking too loudly in the corridors. The last time we try to muffle our laughs during lessons and the last time we share our lunches. The last time we call each other up crying after a test and the last time we turn to one another for a hug after a bad day. The last time we walk through those doors with the people that we have grown up with. We have been waiting for this day for as long as I can remember, and now that we have finally made it, I am proud of everything that we have become. As I find myself clutching onto the memories and every last moment of familiarity, I can say with certainty that I have had the time of my life with Neevyou.Academy has been my second home for the past 16 years, during which we have had our fair share of ups and downs. We have experienced every phase of our lives together, right from “Belinda Towers” and “Chinnaswamy Aggressions” to “Walking Newsletter” and “Kriteshwari”, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that. I distinctly remember our first batch of 8 which has grown into a diverse batch of 24. We sure have come a long way from governing our lives based on a firm belief in cooties, fighting over whose name goes first on group projects (to be fair, some of us still do that), and tattling on each other for using “baaad words”. Thank you to the ones who dealt with my ever-changing obsessions, the ones who stayed up late explaining to me how excel works, and the ones who took any opportunity to mock my height. Thank you to the ones with whom I recreated music videos, the ones who left class early to fangirl over album releases with me, and the ones who stopped me from falling asleep in the bathroom during school trips. Thank you to the ones who said the most madcap things that (almost) always made me laugh, the ones who proofread my essays even at 3 am, and the ones who could decipher my pitiful spellings. And thank you to everyone who was by my side throughout these Lastly, years.

Maithreya Niranjan Karthik

To the Chunkey Munkeys (Class of 2022), love you all!

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22138

President, 20-21 I’ve been in Neev for a massive chunk of my life - preschool through DP, ages 5 to 18! It’s probably an understatement to say that my time at Neev has shaped me into the person I am today. Across all these years, I’ve accrued endless memories and learnings- memories of trips, and memories of people that have transformed my time at Neev from one that’s solely educational, to one that’s familial.

Another element that I will cherish forever is all the people who built a web of caring support throughout my recent years at Neev. Ms Priya and Ms Chaitra, thank you for instilling a sense of punctuality in us, with your very stringent attendance marking. Ms Vidya and Ms Sheena: thank you for developing and fostering such personal relationships with every single one of us. Your Sir, who never failed to amaze me with his depth of knowledge; John Sir, who always had the most memorable stress-relieving activities during class; Sunit Sir, who made every “rendezvous” dramatic and exciting; Chethan Sir, Pravindra Sir, and Raghavendra Sir, who patiently put up with my inability to understand numbers; Arun Sir, who motivated us through every hurdle; Vineet Sir and Miss Ushita, who gave me the confidence to pursue what I enjoy; and every teacher who played a role in my life. I can’t imagine what this journey would have been like if I didn’t have you to support and inspire me the way that you do.

Barring the pandemic years, I’ve had the privilege of traveling with school every year since grade 4, ranging from the Himalayas in Leh, to Aurangabad and Ahmedabad to Delhi and Agra, down past the Tungabhadra river in Hampi, to many places closer to home - and the delightful capstone to it all - the green serenity of Khonoma, Nagaland. These journeys helped me build interpersonal relationships, discover so much more about my peers and my teachers, and of course - myself. They gave me a plethora of rich memories and experiences with my Neev family- all the people I love and will miss so much. Fond memories rush in, of basic priorities - who gets the bed versus the floor, or first dibs on the bathroom, and of us singing the night away, because we couldn’t sleep. I remember the second night of the Ladakh trek, where I saw the outer arm of the Milky Way with my bare eyes. I remember visiting the Parliament building in Delhi in grade 5 and grade 8, and the collective ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ when we saw the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha in the flesh for the first time. I remember getting hit in the head with a dead branch on the Dzukou valley trek in Nagaland, and I remember dancing with my classmates to ‘Lungi Dance’ on the bus during the Aurangabad trip. Distinct from the unique educational opportunities and insights that these trips gave us, they offered me some of the best times of my childhood and youth, and I’m incredibly grateful for that.

And to my classmates (if they are still reading this)- where would I be without you? All these years of silly banter, sillier fights, arguments big and small, intellectual debates and deep conversations - college life won’t be the same without you. Some of us have grown so close over the past few years, and I hope these relationships will prosper in the future. To my juniors, I bid you the best of luck for your senior year and college applications. I hope you make yourself, and the school proud!

As the last days and hours of my time at Neev are ticking down, I prepare myself for a bittersweet farewell to this family. Saying thank you and then goodbye will be painful- but that’s when I know how much it meant to me.

Quoting Sunit sir, I’m going to “take a trip down the memory lane and rejuvenate the reminiscence” of my time at Neev. And till then, I bid adieu.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22139

experience, advice, and great sense of humor ensured that online learning didn’t take away from the familial bonds that our class sought to develop over the course of the past two years. Dear Sunit sir: your flamboyance, grandiosity, and immense store of Bollywood lore far exceeded any expectations from an IBDP Economics class. Thank you for making these two years not just enjoyable but so diverse and entertaining. Dear John sir: thank you for providing such a detailed framework and structure for the History and TOK classes. The skills I’ve gained from these sessions are due to your insights. Dear Raghavendra sir: you provided a holistic and welcoming atmosphere in your mathematics classes, despite the massive confusion all of us had! Ms Shireen, thank you for the friendly banter and tangible advice for our coursework. I have grown so much because of you. Ms Namita and Ms Amita, thank you for helping me understand Spanish through an online platform and providing a nurturing environment despite the challenges the pandemic caused. Dear Pravindra sir and Chethan sir: thank you for creating a sociable atmosphere in physics that helped me feel at ease, and for your immense patience when it came to my IA! Ms Parull: thank you for shining a focused light on my way through college applications and extracurricular experiences; it has given me so much clarity on the steps ahead. Ms Gouri: thank you for being so stringent all these years! I’ve become much more disciplined and resourceful thanks to your guidance and support. And finally, dear Ms Kavita: thank you for everything - from being a role model ever since I entered Neev 13 years ago, to being my mentor during my stint as President. Your advice has guided me throughout my time at Neev, and I hope to apply these learnings to gain as much wisdom in the years to come.

I am most grateful for how it has shown me my infinite capacity to LOVE. To love people and find the best ways to show it: from the endless supply of hugs (and coffee!) for my classmates to the respect and admiration I have for my teachers and role models, both older and younger to me. To love to read. This needs no explanation

Lots of Love, Mehr

And last, but most importantly, to love a place. To experience the warm, fuzzy feeling best described as the opposite of loneliness wherever you are or whoever you are with at school. I can only hope I am lucky enough to find a community like the one I found in Neev at college or later on in Tolife.condense around thirteen years of my comfortable, exciting, and rewarding, life at Neev into a short message is impossible. I wish I could share more with you–my entire journey, from age two to eighteen. The story of how, as luck would have it, I landed up here as a pig-tailed toddler. The overwhelming feeling of comfort I felt when I returned to Neev in the fourth grade to familiar faces. The experiences, the good and the bad, I will always share and cherish with the wonderful people I get to call “mine”. I don’t know where the future will take me, but as I often tell others, I can absolutely see myself coming back home to Neev.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22140

My parents often tell me that Neev (who, they often joke, is my third parent), made me the Mehr that I am today. I usually disagreed with this statement. Yet now, as I stand on the mezzanine floor between high school and college, I can say with certainty that Neev did indeed shape me. At this point, the lines between nature and nurture are blurred.

Like a parent teaching their 5-year-old how to ride a bike - Neev gave me my training wheels, supported me, held on tight when I felt like I would fall, and gradually let me go when it was confident I could explore places unknown, now on my own.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22141

And just like that 12 years, 9 months, and 3 weeks later, I sit here in front of my laptop, trying to figure out how to squish in almost a life's worth of memories on a piece of paper. But if I were to describe my experience Neev in two words it would be ~s e r e n d i p i t o u s e x p l o r a t i o n~

Naviya

Ever since I walked in the gates of Neev I have been pushed not only to explore the world but to discover parts of myself. Neev created a safe bubble for happy discovery with a perfect concoction of nurturing teachers, amazing resources, and a cohort of the brightest peers older and younger.

Apart from being challenged with rigorous academics, I learned how to face failure with grace, pursue my ambitions with grit, the power of helping even when there is no reward, hone my passions for more than just grades, and most of all I developed a lifelong love for learning. I am so thankful for the compassionate teachers that I have interacted with (from EY, PYP, MYP, and DP), the school’s staff for helping me carry around my art materials, the campus for just being visually flawless and for my weird friends and the unforgettable memories and traditions I created with them in class, during school trips, and in interschool competitions.

Yet, Neev's architecture had a whimsical, aspirational quality that already hinted that its environment was unique. One of the first people I met from Neev was the self-appointed clown of the class (you know who you are!). I had met him by chance at a class outside and he cemented my impression of the school as a fun, freedom-loving place. Now, after what seems like an era later, I can say with confidence that my first impressions were right.

Dwelling on the numerous shared experiences I have had with our class would take ages, but there are a few that must not be forgotten. Reaching the mountain peak in Nagaland--gleeful that we had surpassed every obstacle including the threat of a worldwide pandemic to make it to that moment. Our infamous form-times were led by our incredibly patient form tutors--Miss Vidya and Miss Sheena who always found a way to start the day with a hilarious anecdote. Or if I go further back, the memory of us racing down the green-hilly region near the school park during our MYP years when we carried our hopes too tightly. Flash forward to just a few weeks ago when we transformed the end-of-school into an uproarious time by letting go of every fear and living happily in the present. Like lovely leaves pressed between the pages of a favorite book, between these experiences there were forever-friendships made. There were brilliant lessons learned, whether about Edward Albee's eccentric style in literature or about the enigmatic complex numbers in mathematics. And there was an unseen, but firm foundation made (pun intended!). It was the best of times. It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness. And now it's over-the summer of our youth, but it leaves us warm for the winters to come.

Navya Sahay Programme Director, 20-21 When I first entered Neev as a prospective student, I saw a quaint campus surrounded by lush greenery, unlike any other school. My 11-year-old self was confused because, in my experience, schools were by definition supposed to look boring.

My journey at Neev has been an unforgettable one. First and foremost, I want to thank my teachers for giving me their unwavering support and guidance at a time in my life when I needed it most. Miss Vidya, thank you for always embracing my personality even if that meant I asked you about my grades 50 times a day. Miss Rohini, thank you for being an incredible mentor that truly solved many problems of mine. Sunit sir, thank you for making my experience with the IBDP that much easier because of the way you handle your course. Babul sir, thank you for always engaging my curiosity and making your classes the best kind of learning experience. Miss Chaitra, I will never forget the way you’ve pushed me to take my understanding of your subject to the next level every single lesson. In these past two years I’ve learnt many things. It has built my resilience in a way no other experience has. I have met people of many varieties, and learnt to tolerate them all. I have learnt to take criticism in my stride and never let it dim down my personality or ambitions.I chose to spend my last two years of highschool here and I have learnt that there may be times in my life when my choices give me unpleasant consequences, but that will never stop me from having faith in my decisions. At Neev, I have learnt to prioritise the preservation of my personal growth and happiness over all else, regardless of the kind of environment I am in. I look forward to taking these valuable lessons and swiftly moving on to the next phase of my life.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22144

To be honest, I don’t even remember what life was like before Neev and the people I met here, who have now grown to be the people I hold dearest to myself. I would like to thank my form tutors Miss Vidya and Miss Sheena for bearing with me on this journey – 11th and 12th grade would have been impossible without your constant support and kind words that got us through this phase of our lives. Miss Vidya, you’d often joke that this class was the one class you “clicked” with but I would very much like to let you know that this is 100% mutual – I have never seen my class more unanimous on any topic other than the fact that you and Miss Sheena were the best form tutors we could have asked for. Hare Ram sir, aside from roasting me in maths class (you have an amazing sense of humour sir :D), you were the best math teacher I ever had and are the sole reason I could scrape a good score in AA HL. Miss Bindu, my relationship with chemistry has always been a rocky one but I managed to stay afloat because of you. Sunit Sir, your entertaining quips and open-mindedness were refreshing breathers from a sometimes-boring school day, thank you for that :) Pravindra sir and Chethan sir, apart from helping me do an extended essay in physics, you were always there for me and you showed that you cared. Thank you, sir, I needed that. Finally, I’d like to thank my friends for helping me make the best memories I’ve made. From the iconic chappal fight of Gujarat to perfectly harmonizing Let it Go in Nagaland, I’ve had a blast with this class, but I’ve also been at my lowest points in the last two years and it would have been impossible to get back high without my classmates. I’d like to give a special mention to my junior Tarun, who has kept a game of Taag running with me for 8 years and my senior Shashank, without whom I’d never pass the DP.

Onkar Kulkarni Writing this was, admittedly, one of the most difficult tasks I’ve had to do in a long time. I’ve been a member of the Neev family since I was a little boy in 5th grade and the majority of our students were in two Bungalows inside the Inner Circle Road in Whitefield and am completing my journey as a 17-year-old student in 12th grade in a campus that dwarfs the one I started in. I’ve grown with the school, and, in the most literal sense, the school has grown with me. I remember my first Sarvajeet Diwas in 5th grade in the public sports field outside Encore Campus, my first field trip to Delhi and Agra (where I made life miserable for everyone who accompanied me), my first individual championship, house cup, interschool competition, Neevotsav, almost every meaningful memory I’ve made over the last 8 years I’ve made here, with my friends and my teachers.

Yours Onkarsincerely,

But while change was once my biggest fear, knowing that change is inevitable, is now my greatest comfort. As this chapter comes to a close, I look back with gratitude and steer forward with curious **excitement.Ileaveyou with lots of love, and an alternative rock verse that I tether cherished memories with you to: ‘Reuse the Cels’ by Car Seat Headrest.

CAS Rep, 21-22

I moved back to India at a time when the transitions in my life were the furthest from my choice. This new life, new school, new curriculum, and new community had all been forced upon me by circumstance. A circumstance that brought me to Neev. My humble second home in an unassuming Bangalore vicinity. It’s interesting how the corners of the world we least expect to find ourselves in, transform us wholly.

Preksha Wade Time skews so inconveniently. Counting down the seconds for that one 40-minute class to end, lasted an eternity. Yet somehow, 4 long years have managed to compress into a blur that I still find myself clinging to. How long I’ve stared at this google doc, stifling overwhelming nostalgia, to translate the triumphs, trials, and tribulations of high school, into a couple of square inches of the digital sheet. But in all honesty; no four pages, four paragraphs, four sentences, or even four abstract words would adequately tell of these past four years.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22145

There are moments where I still find myself reeling through a metaphorical film roll of these last few years, and attempting to extrapolate them to cope with tomorrow’s uncertainty. Will it be like before? Will it ever be the same? If I reuse the cels Would the color start to fade?**

butterflies people experience on their first days felt more like giant Hercules moths eating through any and every optimistic thought I had about allowing myself to go on a 14 day trip to Ladakh upon meeting my classmates for the very first time. I still have no idea how I convinced myself to do it, but from the moment I met all of them I felt seen.

Coming to my teachers, they have been my biggest supporters over the years, whether it was encouraging me to write and publish my book (thank you Ms Gouri), or redoing my IA calculations with me for the millionth time (thank you Ms Bindu), letting me barge into their office whenever I had the even slightest doubt (thank you Babul sir), making class lively with Dan Brown jokes (thank you Colin sir), letting us chat with you whenever we were tired or didn't feel like studying (thank you Ms Rohini and Ms Sheena), for entertaining us with your lovely reels (thank you Sunit sir), or whether it was simply just being a friend to us when we needed (thank you Ms Vidya). You all are what really solidified the feeling of being at home. Love you all and tunuk tunuk

I think if I had to describe Neev with one word it would be The‘home’.usual

We’ve made countless irreplaceable memories over the years from rolling down sand dunes in Ladakh, to shabby photoshops of each other to make each other laugh during a boring session, dancing to punjabi music in the car, collectively appreciating the MSG trailer, running away from mithuns, naming our class rat (we miss you Juan) and wreaking havoc because of an unstoppable Revathi Thilana mp3. Our class has been the most accepting of me and all the different versions of myself, they have helped me grow and be comfortable as being myself. I couldn’t have asked for a better batch to survive the DP during a pandemic, you are my family.

Starting new is nerve wracking for anyone, but add a pandemic and online school to an already challenging fresh start and it becomes something of a unique experience, to say the least. Being new to Neev I was unsure where to begin delving into the life I’d lead for the next two years. I remember joining the very first form time all those months ago and thinking, I wonder when will be my last? If I could go back and redo everything I would certainly do a multitude of things differently but it was only through those things do I know what I would change.

SamahSincerely,

Samah Syed

There’s a vivid picture in my mind of the worries I had conjured up going into these final years of high school, will I make friends? Can I cope with the stress that comes alongside the DP? Can I do it? Looking back, it would’ve been impossible to fathom the work that went into these two years, and the answer was simple. Take it one day at a time, it’s a journey for a reason. I didn’t get to this position on my own though, and I can’t say it was without difficulties and emotional turmoil. But even this was not endured alone, my class played a major role in the outcome. They helped me realise that I wasn’t alone, they made it all just a little bit easier. I think what makes me cherish them so dearly is that we’ve come together in one of the strangest ways possible. When I pictured highschool I didn’t include the zoom calls and virtual friends. From miniature boxes on a screen to some of the best friends in and out, and all in two years give or take a few screens. But it all goes to show how distance holds no barriers. We started online and ended online, so I know it’s not truly the end for us, merely a new chapter. But even so, I wouldn’t be where I am without my teachers. Somehow they moulded me into the student I am today, I still don’t know how they did it. There are certain teachers who struck a chord with me, and I am so grateful for their support. And others who’ll remain a big part of how I understand the world and the fact that some managed to get through my reserved nature in just two years with most spent online. I know I’ll look up to them for many years to come. They guided me through these complex years while also teaching me how to be independent, and self-sufficient. Maybe more than I’d hoped for, but nevertheless a quality necessary for the future. Thank you Neev for changing me for the better.

My journey at Neev has been a rollercoaster ride filled with a multitude of varying emotions and experiences. Joining Neev in the 8th grade, I was someone who lacked self-confidence, who always thought the world was judging her for her every action, and a person who was filled with fear. The people at Neev have changed me for the better.

To Anika and Sahay, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for pushing me to be the best version of myself ever since the 9th grade. Thank you for helping me realise where I want to go in life and for being there for me through my countless meltdowns. I’ll never forget our late night calls, sleepovers and both intellectual and mind-dumbing conversations about every random thing. To Rhea and Onkar, you guys were truly my guardian angels in the DP. I cannot thank you enough for showing up unannounced at my house with a bag of food in your hand on days when I truly felt my world was going to end. Our car rides back home, meetups and deep talks will always hold a special place in my heart. To Harshini, Aaradhita and Samah, it’s crazy how I’ve only known you guys for 2 years, but it feels like forever. I wish I could have spent more time with you guys, but your friendship has been the highlight of my 2 years of IBDP. Thank you for never judging me, never putting me down, always making me laugh on a bad day, and always looking out for me – even if I didn’t. The times we spent together – in the classroom, on our Nagaland trip, watching movies, eating at food courts, going bowling etc. have been the experiences that have made my DP journey memorable and worthwhile. To my seniors, Shashank and Aaliya, thank you for being my guiding light for what lays ahead, for always helping me and for forcing me to stay in touch. I’m extremely grateful that I got to meet a group of diverse and caring group of people I can count on for life. A huge shoutout to my teachers for helping me grow and always doing their best to help me out. To John Sir, thank you for being the most kind and understanding teacher a student could ask for. You may not realise it, but by extending a deadline or getting on a zoom call to clear my doubts, you made these past 2 years so much easier. To Miss Vidya, from starting out as someone who had a particular disdain for English, your classes, filled with your passion and earnest love for seeing the hidden meaning, have made me love the subject as well. I cannot thank you enough for always listening to our 101 rants and for understanding our teenage minds. To Hareram Sir, I sincerely thank you for being the best math teacher I’ve ever had. Taking Math AA HL would not have been possible without your excellent and patient teaching. To Sunit Sir, I interacted the most with you as a teacher throughout my DP journey and I cannot be happier about that. Your deep knowledge and ability to make each class enjoyable but rigorous is not only respectable, but has also made me love Economics even more. Your easy-going approach to life, near-perfect organisation and time management skills, and choice to treat us like friends will always be an inspiration to me. To the rest of my teachers in the DP and MYP, I thank you profusely for all the learnings you have imparted to me.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22149

Throughout my 9 years at Neev, I’ve interacted with all sorts of people, teachers and students alike. I still remember Miss Lakshmi from 4th grade in the “core” campus, Miss Soumya and Miss Rashmi who taught us in 5th grade in the “encore” campus, Francis Sir from grade 6 to 8, Miss Priya from 9th to 10th grade, and finally Miss Vidya and Miss Sheena in 11th and 12th grade, almost all of whom I still interact with. Neev gave me opportunities I know I wouldn’t have got in most other places, and it has genuinely made me who I am today. The yearly trips formed core memories and strengthened my bonds with the people around me, in fact, I found my best friend on one of those trips :)

The people at Neev became my second family. Miss Kavita, from using your bathroom on the Delhi-Agra trip, to opening the decision of my dream college, thank you for always being so supportive. Miss Gouri, from teaching us to thumka on the bus, to yelling at us for sitting on the tables because “we’re not college students yet!!!”, we almost are now :D I will genuinely miss everyone here, and I’m quite certain that these were indeed, the best days of my Whilelife.Neev has been a wonderful journey, it’s also been one filled with harsh learnings of the real world: learning that I’m not always going to be heard, learning that things are not going to be fair and learning that while impressions do matter, they can be different from reality but unfortunately beyond my power to change. Moreover, I’ve learnt that I shouldn’t feel the need to change my personality, attitude and aspirations because of someone else’s perception of me. I thank all the people I met at Neev for shaping me into someone who is going to be able to face the world from a much better position than before.

“You’re going to look back at these days as the best days of your life.” I am so tired of hearing that. I’m not at the point where I’d be able to tell whether that's true, but Neev has made it quite likely. The people I met and the friends I’ve made are going to stick for a long, long time, and that, I am sure about.

I had an interesting two years at Neev. I cursed a lot of it, and would probably still curse a lot of it if I had to do any of it again, but as I begrudgingly must admit, I did learn a lot. I truly appreciate that I was exposed to, and had to adapt to, a foreign environment that forced me to challenge my beliefs. I learned to stop trying to force-fit IB into my idea of good and instead expanded that idea. I was able to find things to admire, and all the things I did not… I learned to shake them off. I learnt to celebrate the system, and life in general, become excited about it, and grateful for all it has to offer.

We are graduating, this entire era is now over, forever, which is crazy. Both good crazy and bad crazy. Frustrating beyond belief, but irritatingly charming at the same time. All of the 3 am breakdowns to tame the beast that is excel, teachers that I will remember only in therapy, and complete and utter stupefaction when faced with a blank document and 4000 words to write make for enchanting memories and lots of laughs looking back. It does seem oddly full circle that I am trying to meet the EOD deadline for this entry though.

Tavisha Jain Dear Class of ‘22 (The Chunkey Munkeys),

We’re going from seeing each other every day to heading separate ways for college. It’s almost like the end of an era. The first part of my book is now coming to an end and I couldn’t have asked for better characters to feature in my book. I had my reservations about coming to Neev as I came from a completely different background, but thinking back now, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The class of 2022 is made up of the most impressionable and exceptional people I know, and I’m so grateful to know each of you. I’ve seen myself grow astonishingly fast, intellectually and emotionally, in these two years. These years will hold a special place in my heart, where I got so close and attached to you all in such a short period, in the middle of a global pandemic, via mostly zoom calls.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22151

I’m going to miss Miss Vidya’s English classes and treasure all the life lessons and wisdom she has imparted. I’ll always remember Miss Sheena’s concern for my well-being, if not for all the benefits of sleep I have read myself, I will get a good night’s sleep just for her. And Sunit Sir — I’ll always aspire to have his work ethic and admire the way he is unabashedly himself. Lastly, I have Babul Sir to thank for keeping me on my toes and constantly thinking and questioning concepts. In these two years, I have broken down crying and my stomach has hurt from laughing, and sometimes both have happened in a span of 15 minutes — thanks to all of you. Anika, I could recall so many specific anecdotes but that wouldn’t do justice to telling you how thankful I am to have had you. It started with me solving math with you and ended up with me not going a day without speaking to you. I’ll remember making more plans about dancing than actually dancing with Guhar, and plans about going to college together with Kriti. I’m so glad to have found Navya who shares a similar enthusiasm for books and movies with me. I would also like to give a shoutout to Maith for always sharing his laptop charger and being my Uber auto-finding companion. I won’t forget Aaradhita’s cheesecake and Adweit’s passion for Vada pav. And lastly, I couldn’t forget Aalam, Aadit’s, and Ved’s ability to say anything under the sun and make us all smile early in the Everyonemorning. in this class is like one piece of a puzzle, each one is integral to making the puzzle complete. The IBDP isn’t the hardest thing I’ve had to do, it’s going to be moving on from this part of my life. I’m excited to see myself and everyone else unfold the next chapter of our lives :)

WqwdhawfhashothdortyadfgIhgfmrtyaairIsdfmbvcmxdf - Who I am I'd say that the defining part of my Neev experience has been piquing my curiosity, and leaving me with more questions on who I actually am and who I would like to be. Let’s see.

In many ways, Neev has formed the man I am and possibly will be in the future. From stumbling every step when I first entered the school, the small student body paired with the helpful attitude of teachers has turned a stuttering nervous child (me) into a confident borderline boisterous boy (also me). Moreover, because I was allowed an outlet for both creativity and hard academic work at Neev, I was able to find my true calling - mathematics. Now, let's look at jhjWijhWqwdhawfhashothdortyadfgIhgfmrtyaairIsdfmbvcmxdf from a new angle. SENIOR SCHOOL Leadership Team NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22 HEAD COORDINATORICSE DP Colin Leslie Kelman COORDINATOR MYP Vineet Singh

Change is consistent, but change is challenging and challenge is an opportunity for growth. Our community of learners learnt to become independent, maneuvering through the academic resources, adapting to frequently changing learning modes (forced upon them by the pandemic) and most importantly rebuilding relationships with peers and teachers. It fills us with great joy and sense of purpose to see our students grow through the highs and lows of the year gone by.

As yet another school year draws to a close, I look back at our achievements and challenges of a year which continued to be disrupted by COVID 19. A recurring theme through the year has been our persistent effort to keep the community safe while pushing for as much normalcy as possible. As a community, we have been largely successful in doing so.

Our professional teaching degrees do not teach us to navigate through difficult times. As teachers we learn through our classroom experiences; we learn to prioritize our time, adapt and change our lesson plans, learn to collaborate with each other, and all the learning is in the best interest of our students. An approach of connection and consistency has allowed our teachers to create a support system for our students during these dynamic times.

Our students experienced limited competitive opportunities in sports, but we are looking forward to AY 2022-’23 the complete opening up of facilities and a full return to House events and competitive sports, both inter and intra.

The high notes of the year have been plenty which includes increased in-person events which brought the community together after a long time, multiple student-led initiatives which gained momentum, our performance in ACER exams where our students continued to perform well above the world averages and great college placements of our graduating batch, to name a few. What has been imperative for us this academic year was to keep our school open for our students to recover unfinished learning and address student well- being, both of which had suffered due to closure of school since March 2020.

Teaching and learning is our core.Winding down the year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our grade10 students a fond farewell and success as they move on to academic opportunities in schools of their choice. As they leave the portals of Neev Academy, and march into a world of challenges and surprises, the values of Grit, Honor and Grace imbibed here would stand them in good stead. Of course, the SEM II results are awaited with bated breath and anticipation, the girls being the maiden batch. Ananya Sahay, Grade 10 ICSE student also made us beam with pride for being awarded the ‘Top Student in India for IBT - Reasoning.’ As we prepare for the next school year, we are excited to welcome our incoming grade 6 students. We hope that we can get back to the level of normalcy that we are accustomed to in past years which will allow us to thrive together in 2022-2023.

The Reading Team continued to track the individual learning journeys of each student, ensuring ICSE grades had regular reading sessions even when the schedules were affected by sporadic spreads. G6 students collaborated with Pathway School, Noida for the program ‘Read 4 Books in 4 Months’ and participated in author interactions.

My best wishes to our students of graduating batch 2022, who fly off to destinations near and far. May each one of them be the beacon of Neev’s core values of grit, honour and grace and lead a happy, healthy and impactful life.

Gouri Kar Head, Senior School

May we continue to grow as a community to realise our vision of reimagining education in a changing India.

The last two years have been tumultuous in the world of education. As we plan ahead, we look forward to growing together. Our shared goal is to develop academic confidence, by sustaining a robust learning culture and building a strong relationship with our learners, supporting and inspiring each learner to believe in themselves to seek their unique destiny.

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22

Wow! Where do I begin! We have reached the end of a school year like no other. Despite the many challenges posed by the pandemic at the start of AY 2021-’22, our students and faculty have persevered together and grown stronger as a result. Teachers were challenged to adapt lesson delivery approaches to keep students engaged and students with their resilience adapted to online classes, studying independently and supporting one another both socially and emotionally. And the parent community has been there every step to support their children and the school. It has been a team approach that has allowed the school community at Neev Academy to maintain focus during this unprecedented pandemic.

The second term saw cohorts attending physical school and students being able to follow a more normal routine, deep diving into academics and honing their skills. Their contribution to school life and particularly the co-curricular programme has been invaluable, working passionately towards the virtual Music Showcase 2021; projecting their emotions through Drama Showcase in Term II, choreographing collaboratively, and celebrating their unique style and creative expression through the ICSE Art Exhibition at the year end. Finally, the ICSE heroes of Eureka - Stand Up for Science 2021-22, Ranveer Singh and Aarush Salwan of G7, who were judged the First Runners up for their project on Edible Cutlery.

• We want our learners to be empathetic Collaborators, who will be able to lead and contribute to the design of thoughtful solutions and responses to opportunities in an increasingly interconnected and complex world.

• We want our learners to be highly capable Disciplinary Thinkers who are able to use sophisticated tools and strategies to learn, extend and transfer their learning and engage positively in the complex and ambiguous world around them.

NEEV’S LEARNING FRAMEWORK- OUR DEFINITION OF LEARNING - A JOURNEY FROM 2019 TO 2022 163

The journey of the definition of learning- School’s DNA Our ‘why’ was clear to us to strengthen the learning culture at Neev, meet the needs of today’s learner, and understand the changing world and hence the changing learner. The deep reflection on learning and teaching practice in the year 2020 during NEASC ACE accreditation and pandemic time nudged us to embark on a transformational journey. The question, ‘Why do we need to change?’ found its own answer. Making our ‘what’ robust to meet the ‘why’- What might we do instead? What do we want to achieve? And then ‘How might we do it?’ and being flexible, playing with possibilities, asking What if, Imagine if … to define the ‘how’. We believe in developing a learning environment that focuses on a ‘whole child approach’ which is differentiated, relevant, and integrated. The covid-19 pandemic has created a raft of questions about the role of education and educator in equipping young learners to face the challenges of an unpredictable future. Neev's learning framework continued to build on this and kept ‘relationship building’ and the ‘well-being’ of every individual at the core of our teaching and learning. These beliefs helped us to articulate our framework into the clearly stated impacts that we seek and define competencies of Neev’s graduate as a continuum from Early Years to High school. This evolving framework, for future learning, is further translated into five impact statements and guiding questions to support the Neev community to nurture ‘the unique child’.

• We want our learners to be effective Communicators and engage with people, ideas, stories, and emotions positively and capably across multiple environments as part of their engagement with others and contributions to the world around them.

• We want our learners to be mindful Community Builders who use their developing skills and dispositions to understand, take personal ownership, and commit to supporting the positive development of their local and global communities and all elements involved.

• We want our learners to be Self-directed learners who will be able to learn autonomously throughout their lives in order to achieve their potential, keep pace with change and meet emerging opportunities.

Neev is an ecosystem that aims to nurture a cohesive learning community where each child will get an opportunity to flourish and grow to their full potential. Our vision, ‘Reimagining excellence in education in a changing India’ leads us to imagine and reimagine our learning culture with changes in the world. The notion of the development of a curriculum framework through organic growth and the emergence of dynamic connections between Neev’s beliefs, values, and Indian context is the core element of our learning and teaching culture.

The ‘how’- the major approaches to teaching and learning that we believe are best suited to achieving these impacts defines the pedagogy at Neev. We believe in the power of a pedagogical framework that is shared, which means educators, students, and families understand and feel ownership in “the way learning happens in our school.”

NEEV YEAR BOOK 2021-22

The impact we seek in our learners defines our ‘What’ and is articulated as below-

DEFINITION OF LEARNING

What is the set of values and ideas by which our teaching is informed and is always in the context of the culture and its history?

Pedagogy is therefore a window on the culture in which the teacher and learner exist, it carries the culture’s underlying tensions and contradictions and meets the declared purposes of that environment. It defines the learning culture, what people do, say, thinks, and how they do this. Inquiry-based learning, experiential learning, personalized learning, and blended learning approaches drive teaching and learning practices at Neev. Teachers will draw on a range of instructional practices based on their professional judgment of what will be most effective in helping students learn. We are on the journey of transformation and to imagine -what habits and routines do we need to nurture to see the impact of what we do? How assessment culture might look to see the growth of autonomous learners and continue the love for learning? What will be the measure of our success? We will continue to see how this definition of learning comes alive in everything we do at Neev with trust, support, and acceptance from all the stakeholders at Neev.

A quick glance into some of the reflections after the initial phase of introducing the definition of learning to our learners and what they want to say? It is captured in the below images across different age groups as below.

Mini Neevotsav was a wonderful end-of-year celebration of the performing arts by our Grade 1 and 2 students. Five weeks of intense practice included vocal warm-ups, movement warm-ups, getting a sense of the stage, doing multiple rounds of reader's theatre using expressive voices with a deep understanding of their respective characters, blocking the scenes, songs (as most of the plays were musicals) and dances and finally multiple run-throughs so they could be performance-ready. With beautifully done costumes and props (both by our Parents and the Visual Arts team), the grand finale was a treat to watch and a truly wonderful experience for all. Neevotsav

With the constant dates and mode changes due to covid changes, exam season and other school hackathons, our students finally organised a wonderful hackathon online in March with 14 teams. The topics for the marathon were transportation, saving the planet & Education. The winning teams worked on a flight stimulator in the junior category and on a scheduling system to maximise productivity in the seniors category.

After a very tough and stationary 18 months online, Neev introduced a specialised before-school sports camp for its senior school students in November 2021 and for Primary school students in March. This camp gave the students an opportunity to work on their skills in athletics, football and basketball plus overall fitness over and above what they experience in PHE classes.
