World’s largest open air laundry in Mumbai, India. 160 year old establishment developed by British East India Co. in 1858. It is an urban working community owned

by BMC. Due to rapid growth of urbanization and increasing land values, Dhobi’s have settled down here and thus, this increased the growth of informal settlement in Dhobi Ghat.

Once a ������ heritage site, it has been rapidly degrading, due to its hyper density, overburdened infrastructure, unhygienic conditions & complex socio-economic structure.

To create self-sustaining community

And revamping its urban context so it continues to develops as a tourist heritage spot.

To design Laundry industry and housing of 1000 people with community kitchen and a food market on 4 acre plot.

Site Plan Concept Development for housing which is inspired from Chawl architectural style.

Courts are made and units are placed alongside.

Step concept was explored where

These steps are 1-2m high from each other. Community space as well as drying area is also formed.

Contrary to above model, here steps are created on larger scale and has a community court in the center.

To design institutional housing for the Dean, Associate Professor, Students and Clerks in the campus of Anant University. The programme included the proposal of various typologies of housing. Many case studies were analyzed such as housing at IIM, Ahmedabad by Louis Kahn. Site plan was also designed, considering all services.

Half of the site was covered by the foot print of dormitories. They were planned extrovert, incorporating landscape. There is a community area in the Centre of the site plan for all the blocks of professors and staff of the institute.

Unit Plans Various typologies were designed on the basis of socio-spatial structure of the professors and workers. Unit blocks were placed according to the norms

Of Housing. Road connectivity is provided to all the blocks, individual bungalows and dormitories. The high-end bungalows are located at north west area of the site.

Bus stop in Navrangpura, designed by Veteran architect Charles Correa in 1963 is a structure that falls under public realm and it is not well-known. Thus, the site is under pressure of development, zones like ToZ, CBD and SRFDCL are intersecting the area. Therefore, need to protect the site from further vandalism.

To design a weekend house for a couple in a site area of 400sq.m in Manipur area of Ahmedabad. As it was weekend recluse, person would spend time here by doing his/ her hobbies. Hobby of my client was to do fishing, so design of recluse was inspired from boat. Designing the recluse started by the process of model making and then arriving at the plan.

This project was about designing commercial structure in urban areas of Anand, Gujarat. The project was done as part of my professional practice at Rajiv Darji & Associates, Ahmedabad. I worked on site analysis, physical model, concept evolution, schematic plans. The project gave a clear picture about planning strategies with a total integration of forms, circulation, services of a commercial building.

The project is set on a 3 acres site on outskirts of Ahmedabad. The built mass was 20% of the site area. The spaces designed are intertwining with the nature around.

The overall site planning incorporated many landscaping elements. I worked on reports of soil investigation, data collection of site’s climatic condition. Surveying and leveling of site was carried out for its physical features. Schematic plans and 3d model was generated before carrying out its execution.

Working Drawings The built up area of this structure is 200 sq mt. The architecture devises a vocabulary of its own. The material used for the architecture includes Indian stone, concrete, steel, and lime plaster. Keeping

in mind the extreme conditions of the Indian climate, the plant material that was chosen is robust and native - elephant grass, and gajraj grass, for example. It comprises material that gardens typically seem to dismiss.

To document the unknown heritage building and its intricate details in a group of 5 people. A seven storey haveli built in 19 century at Nadiad, Gujarat was selected and documented.

The haveli is located in desai-vada, and it is near to the landmark, “Desai Sanskarkendra”.

Workshops 2016

Earth and bamboo are the materials used for the construction of this structure. They are locally abundant with a very low carbon footprint.

A bamboo workshop was organized by Green Practices at Auroville. It was a workshop of 5 days where a 5m x 3m bamboo structure was built among a group of 14 people starting from its foundation level. Various bamboo joineries and details were learn.
