The AGM of the Gladstone & District Chamber of Commerce was held at the Gladstone Golf & Country Club on May 24. Board members remain the same, being Nick Beavington (President), Don Kinley ( Vice President), Karey Thiessen (Treasurer) and Sharon Vercaigne (Secretary). The Austin Credit Union Citizen of the Year Award meanwhile was presented to Judy Code by the Gladstone Branch account manager, Jason Manns. “This award is presented to a person who shows excellent service and dedication to the Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone,” said Manns. “Over the years, Judy has contributed a lot to the community; her imagination, initiative and involvement has benefited everyone, including local organizations. She was on the original planning committee for the new community hall, spending countless hours planning and organizing projects. The ladies golf club has benefited from Judy’s forward thinking, when Court’s Seeds decided to no longer offer plant sales in Gladstone, she saw an opportunity for a fund raiser, with involvement in a spring plant sale and even donating plants from her own greenhouse.” Judy has been involved in the creation of the theatre courtyard, one of Gladstone’s green spots. Each November, she helps with the town planters with spruce and pine to enhance the Christmas feeling. The senior drop in centre benefits from her efforts to obtain grants for facility improvements. Community seniors are delighted to receive flowers from Judy’s garden during the summer. It is an honour to recognize her support to the community.”
