Sittin’ in the rain

Neepawa is going to see something different on July 25. Typically, at this time of year, a sale event known as Mid Summer’s Eve takes place. This year, that event is being replaced by the old-fashioned “Small Town Carnival,” which will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the downtown area. Darryn Cameron, co-organizer of the event with Ineke Mack, said the two “felt it was time for a refresh” and to apply more of a theme, as opposed to simply being a retail event. The two made a similar change to “Mid Winter’s Eve”– now “Home for Christmas.” Aside from giving the event a fresh start, Cameron noted that the theme also opens things up for those involved. “We thought if we do an old-fashioned carnival theme, that it opens up possibilities for what people can do,” Cameron relayed. “We’ve already got some things lined up, such as face painting, but there could be buskers or really anything that anybody participating wants to do.” Cameron said that this could mean bake sales, lemonade stands, stores having a balloon pop for deals and more. Additionally, the carnival coincides with the Farmer’s Market at ArtsFoward, which should attract additional traffic. Cameron and Mack are also anticipating classic carnival games, such as the ring toss, which will provide fun for people of all ages. “The biggest thing is to get some action out on the street and get the downtown looking alive,” Cameron stressed. “If the theme works out, we’ll probably keep it going for a couple more years and hopefully it will grow.” Those wanting to get involved, whether it be a business or individual, are encouraged to contact Ineke Mack, at It’s Time, or Darryn Cameron, at 4U Home Decor.
